Daka

Daka was a £25m project when we signed him.

He was highly touted and a bit of a phenomenal player for Salzburg.

I actually think we’ve somehow coached him to be worse than he was when he arrived.

He doesn’t have the same ability as he didn’t our seasons ago.

If someone showed you this video and said he’d scored 54 goals in 82 games, you’d be happy.

Where has that player gone?

My theory is that Vardy's longevity is down to some sort of occult vampirism whereby he leeches the ability/life force of any forward we sign. Surely can't be a coincidence that since he arrived we've signed a string of forwards who were either banging in the goals beforehand or went on to after they left us, but seemed physically incapable of doing so while here.

There’s a lot of revision of history about the signing of Daka. You only have to look back at the thread on here to see people were buzzing and there were no complaints about it.

It’s not like signing Skipp or Vestergaard where people knew straight off it was a bad signing. I guess many slating the club for the signing on this particular case were happy with the signing initially. There’s a difference between a bad signing and one that just doesn’t work.

The main issue is the wages we put players on. If he’d come on sensible wages, possibly slightly lower transfer fee as well, we could have moved him on after a couple

of years. Similar story with Soumare.

I despise him. I think in all honesty if red bull salzburg didn’t have the hype they do due to Haaland etc he’d have been sub £10m.

And I would still feel aggrieved!!

Yeah it felt like a bit of a coup at the time as he was very highly touted.

27 goals 12 assists in 2692 minutes in 19/20

34 goals 12 assists in 2907 minutes in 20/21

Obviously a lower quality league but I just struggle to see any hint of that kind of player in him these days, he has regressed so much

I don't think there is any revisionism going on.  Many people have reached a conclusion now.  He has had a lot of chances here, but I don't see anyone claiming to have known it was a bad signing at the time.

Like you say, we were all buzzing.

Fascinated to know what happened with him. He seemed ideal. Sure the Austrian league is lower quality but those numbers were good.

You don't consistently get that rubbish so fast without trying.

I am sorry but I even fail to actually believe this man is a professional footballer.  If we are truly solely relying on him to be the main striker next season we really

are in the shite.  Can't even give him credit for being able to run because when he does he falls over.  Hilarious.

This is mad. Say what you want about the level, he still needs a close touch and a sure finish to score in a number of those situations. Things we haven't seen here!

He is the ultimate confidence player; when its gone, he's useless. If it's there we would have been in business.

We're the even shitter version of Man U; sign a striker, ruin them.

I was really excited when we signed him, but it was pretty clear early on that he doesn't have the physicality or the technique for English football. Never has, never will.

Might be good in a less demanding league like the Bundesliga or the Eredivisie.

Not using this as an excuse for him. He's been hugely disappointing and not seized his opportunities when they have arisen. But does anyone know what's the longest run of games he's had starting in his preferred position (i.e. up-front and not shoved out on the wing)?

He won't be the first striker we've had that's struggled to make an impact stuck behind Vardy in the pecking order (and before anyone jumps on me - I'm not disputing Vardy's position in the team as he's our GOAT).

He is just not up to the English game ... and never probably likely to be .... although the club must also shoulder a lot of blame

A .. firstly for buying him at a price that he can't live up to

B .. not playing to his strengths whatever they are

C .. he should have been loaned out to get to know our game ... in the championship to toughen him up

D.. who actually scouted him should have considered all of this

Yet another one that's not lived up to the hype, I really wanted him to do well.  nice guy, good atitude with no big ego. he is quick but he has missed to many chances. one year left on his contract means we need to take money if we can.   Still think he might do well somewhere else..

I'm so disappointed in and for him.

I saw a striker in his early twenties, developed at one of the most respected football setups in Europe with a Red Bull side, teammates with Haaland and seemed to have all the attributes needed to succeed. A good attitude, blistering pace, excellent scoring record in Austria and time to develop alongside Vardy as he wound down at the same time as Daka should have been nearing his peak.

On paper, it looked a damned good acquisition. He could, in theory, score a goal or two early next season to build a bit of confidence and become an absolute monster for a time, but it's not likely as he looks absolutely shot.

Do you not remember him saying he was using the club as a stepping stone to get a move to Barcelona?
