I don't know how we found it so troublesome, but suppose it's fine margins. Today was without doubt the worst game I've seen Faes and Vestergaard have to face in being out of position, reminded me of last season under Brendan and that hopeless scampering from Amartey and Faes.

Genuinely think our midfield was wank today and Boro had a midfielder amongst themselves just as good. 
 

We struggled to get the press right as well - which is normally a sign when things go awry with us as those defenders get exposed

We’re now 78-5 with 13 overs left. We are 9 points clear. We have to play our two closest rivals and they have to play each other.

They were highly tipped to get promotion with Carrick implementing a decent passing style. Yet their better results this season have come completely abandoning that way of playing. We were treated the same way Chelsea and Villa were. Massive backhand compliment to us. 

We've done well at times when we've just countered too. Sometimes the players suit a certain philosophy more and a manager has to abandon his ways until he gets the players he needs.

I think Faes looked a bit off in last few games at times. He's so rash but when it comes off and he makes those challenges high up it can start off an attack. You really need a no nonsense man alongside him. I'd give Vesty one more year but we do need a top defender for next season because Faes isn't going anywhere.

Annoyingly they were nothing special, we were just shitter than them.

 

Defensively we were dragged all out of position way too much by our own incompetence. 

Pushing a defender up into the inverted midfield role whilst having Ricardo as an attacking 8 just left us too exposed

Had a bad feeling about today and so it proved. Didn't play well yet missed four sitters. Have to bounce back like we have done before.

At what point in the pressure cooker of a season does the signing of Conor Coady get utilised? I'm looking for characters to step up down the stretch and we've not really been in the muck and bullets much and come out of big game battles as victors.

 

This is a huge week for us.

I had 3 hours to digest that on the way home. On another day we take our chances and we win, but we got exposed and paid the price. They got a lot of joy on the transition and winning the ball in certain areas (when we were attacking) and clipped a ball down the channel. Rarely this season have I been concerned about Vesty and Faes lack of pace, but fair play to them it’s a weakness and they exploited it.

 

I thought all the changes toward the end was a bit desperate and we looked like a bunch of strangers. I also can’t recall a game this season where key players were all poor.

 

Hopefully it will be a wake up call and looking at it positively might mean we don’t get complacent.

Despite that we probably should have drawn or even won the match, but we wouldn't have deserved it.

 

For me the weird thing was we crossed to the outside post so many times this game, and I don't really know why? Were we targetting Ayling? It didn't work if that's what we were going for.

 

Onto the next one, though Leeds away was always going to be the hardest game of our season. Maybe the collectively awful performance today will give them all a kick up the bum for that one?

Entirely agree … the aim of our attacks seemed to be a far post cross, which I feel has been something that’s been an increasingly familiar route. It doesn’t make much sense though as we never score from them!!
