He just takes too long. Several times he received the ball in large space then slowed the play down or slowed himself down long enough to get caught.

Coventry played a system that left Grimes their only central midfielder between two blocks of attacking and defensive players.

That meant there was a lot of space if Leicester could beat the press by that Coventry attacking block and this is where it was crying out for a midfielder to run with the ball and take advantage of that space.

Soumare often had the opportunity to run with the ball into space (which is why people are saying he ran with the ball a lot today), but he did it so slowly and without real hunger that the opportunity passed us by and Coventry often had chance to recover.

We’d have gained something had he been taken off like he was at Oxford.

I thought he was alright, not as good as the other two midfielders but nowhere near as bad as we know he can be. He does have a habit of underhitting or slightly misplacing simple passes to players in space which forces them, and the move, to slow down. Otherwise he was decent if unremarkable.

1st half. Constantly giving the ball away

2nd half playing passes to Thomas a f others 5-10 yards astray

pathetic excuse for a footballer and the manager is culpable for playing him

The last few matches I think he’s looked better, picking the ball up deep, being the main man in midfield in front of the defenders. Maybe not exceptional, but decent and with a clearly defined role that he executed well.

Yesterday he was back to looking lost as the game passed him by, and I think a lot of that was because Winks was taking charge and doing a lot of the linkup that Soumare had been. It wasn’t that Soumare was outright bad yesterday, he just looked like he didn’t know what to do in possession. Perhaps he’s a player who prefers rigidity and a defined role. Either way, he doesn’t look comfortable playing next to Winks.

Is he on a bonus for passes completed? Seems to delivery pick the simplest pass possible at the slowest speed possible. Drives me insane.

Slows everything down by doing that stupid roll while he brain processors what to do next. On the edge of their box Winks had to scream because he was just standing there and couldn’t decide what to do.

Watch him closely and you’ll see that he can never decide what to do until it’s too late.  He stands watching Thomas try and defend, gets beaten then decides to jog after them then floats away.

He did a slow ambling run from deep in the second half, slows down, rolls the balls and passes it behind Monga who had already started to run into space. He had to stop, turn round and it kills any break. How we have gone from KDH to this clown is embarrassing.

Brain dead player.  Shows how far we have fallen when people praise Ayew for working hard by hogging the ball and falling over and this clown for running slightly.

He is crap.  I think we are beyond making excuses for players anymore.  That’s why the club are in a mess. He has been here for 4 years and 4 managers yet looks exactly the same. Shit

For me no where near as bad as some are saying yesterday. Wasn't great but was ok for me. Has baggage and will never be a fans favourite. But also one of those people love to moan about and we have a few of those at the minute. (at times completely valid to moan)

He is frustrating though. He does go back and slow things down. But doesn't help when you pick the ball up and your CF is behind you.

As I’ve said on another thread with everyone fit, integrated and back from suspension he should not be starting games or coming off the bench as a first option.

Hes not good enough, doesn’t have the right mentality and does not put the effort in.

Agree with what you said about Soumare but Ayew has been really good so far this season and does far more for us than that.

You can see his team mates rate him. There was a moment when he was marked by 3 guys and they gave him the ball anyway and he glided past them all.  Dont think many people have that about them at this level but simply he doesn’t do enough with the ball.  What’s more frustrating is he probably shoots better than the other mids, he can probably play the best through ball he just simply is wired to always do the safest option available. Would love for him to go rogue, breeze past a few players and just shank one into row z… simply to see the guy take a risk for once

I have never once seen his take part in shooting drills during the warmup. He always does stretches at that time.

Interesting to see the polar opposite reactions to Winks's and Soumare's performances last night. One is getting slated and the other is being treated as the second coming.

From what I saw there wasnt much between them, both were tidy in possession but didn't offer much in terms of forward penetration or defensive work. The reality is Soumare, like Winks, is good enough at this level because the opposition is so poor, he was fine yesterday.

Replacing Soumare with a proper defensive midfielder would probably be the biggest single improvement for the team at this moment.
