Nolucklcfc Posted 4 March 2024 Posted 4 March 2024 Interesting how it’s a Leeds supporting journalist reporting it when we happen to be in our worst form of the season.

About to do the same with N'Didi and Nacho Soyuncu & Tielemans refused to leave and were determined to run down their contracts, how would you have forced them to act differently? Who is N'Didi? The player called Ndidi who plays for us has been a revelation this season and could make the difference betwen promotion or slumming it down in The Championship for at least another season, would you prefer that we'd have sold him for £5m (we weren't going to get much based on final year of contract and his form over the previous two seasons having been poor). Iheanacho was expected by many to be scoring 30 goals this season, should we have forced him out for not much and potentially have lost those goals. Hindsight is a great thing.

I've had zero faith in the ownership of the club for about 18/24 months now. Refusing to invest, when already breaching FFP anyway, Only Top and Whelan can do that. O_o

Where's the suggestion he's a Leeds fan? His twitter account has no sign of Leeds instead suggestions that he's a Cambridge fan? Or are we already heading for the Everton foil hat club?

If we have high valuations that’s one thing but Tielemans and soyuncu we never got offers for. Agreed. The club were in a unique position for a club of our size, in that we couldn't adequately replace any players of that calibre sold. Selling Tielemans at his peak would've have been a damaging admission that we weren't a 'real' top six contender and, a ready made, affordable player to step into that level (and one prepared to play for a club of our size) would be almost impossible to find. Sell Youri. Damage ambitious brand. Replace with, say, Winks, and tumble back to lower mid table. It wasn't an easy conundrum tbf
ConnFoxUS Posted 4 March 2024 Posted 4 March 2024 (edited) Surely @Foxes_Trust has some insight here, given their post-season Q&A with the club after last season’s debacle. Maybe they’ll weigh in with some knowledge of the situation? Edited 4 March 2024 by ConnFoxUS

They’ve spent a colossal amount of money since they returned to the PL haven’t they? Made pure profit on Ramsay, Archer, Grealish, Philogene, Azaz, Chukwumeka totalling 160m. Made money on Targett too.

That will affect the bottom line I’m sure… That was for cashflow not FFP, we have both FFP and cashflow issues.

HarryDee8 Posted 4 March 2024 Posted 4 March 2024 What would we be looking at as a possible points deduction? If we go up and get points deduction were likely to be coming back down again then.
HankMarvin Posted 4 March 2024 Posted 4 March 2024 (edited) How much have we actually saved including new additions. Kieran Maguire Said at the end of last season "If it was in the Championship, realistically we would be looking somewhere in the region of £70-80m. The wage bill was £180m. Clearly that’s not sustainable and that would impact upon people. Edited 4 March 2024 by HankMarvin

Their owner taking ownership of their ground put £80m into the pot, else they'd have been sanctioned during the promotion season.
The Bear Posted 4 March 2024 Posted 4 March 2024 (edited) Villa are definitely sailing close to the wind now. I'm sure Emery mentioned it before the start of the season during their summer business. All the clubs from 7th down to thr bottom three are tbh. The rules are there to restrict all those clubs from catching up too much and making them need to sell their best players. In fact Villa have just today announced a £120m loss for 22/23 period. Though there will be allowances in there that will likely bring it down a bit. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-reveal-huge-losses-28753882 They reckon they are still within PSR though as their revenue increased substantially.
