Can someone tell me what he offers because I've seen very little redeeming qualities in Skipp.

I'm sure we could have got more quality from league 1 or 2. There must be some midfield talent down there with a level of Skill.

As somebody who has previously written off the likes of Jamie Vardy, Gerry Taggart and Steve Claridge after slow starts, give him some time.

I know we want instant returns (especially when we're crap and have been financially handcuffed), and admittedly he's not don't anything to justify the transfer fee so far... but sometimes these things take a little while.

And I'd give him a break for today. The midfield is crippled with absences and I doubt many would excel in a midfield two with Hamza away at Newcastle.

Our midfield today was championship standard. We already knew that about Hamza. However, what's this guy's excuse? He cost us over £20million and was signed from a club that finished 5th last season.

He is a kind of player who would be good enough to be in a team with higher quality individuals around him If that makes sense.  Problem is our team isn't like that.  When you compare him to what we paid for Winks it feels like a pretty bad signing.

I agree we could've been far more imaginative and found players if equal or better for far far less. But....

I kinda like him. Just yet another in a long long line who's been signed and then not played correctly. Like Soumare, he can operate in a three but not a two. Yesterday was mind numbingly obvious prior to the game we needed to pack midfield. We didn't -  and paid the price.

Doesn't matter if it was winks and Wilf, Soumare and Skipp, Hamza and Winks.... yesterday was always going to be too much for two in the middle.

Winks is a far better player and actually plays with far more quality and personality. Skipp is average. He's not particularly good at anything in particular. Just an average player. Spurs must have been laughing their heads off when we paid over 20 mil. I won't judge him solely based off yesterday as anyone is going to struggle in that team, but he still needs to be a lot better. I can't even remember seeing him make a tackle.

We wasted another 25 million on a very average Footballer that we could have found in league 1.

It's not his fault though Yes he can do a job but he lacks the quality we clearly need to move us forward.

We were never winning yesterday's game no matter what linup we put out. Newcastle were really up for it from the start.

The problem is we now have another player on a long Contract not really up to the job we need doing.

That's relegation waiting to happen for sure.

Really unfair to judge him having to play with Hamza in a two.

This place is literally like a parody for individual player threads. Way over the top both ways. Players go from world class to competition winners.

Well said!   Some of the rubbish written in player threads is laughable.  Particularly when the same people posting are often proved entirely wrong over time.

You'd think the Vardy thread would make them realise.

If we’d stayed in the championship we still could have signed him and paid half the price if not more.

Theyve completely had us but I think most fans knew that at the time

I agree completely with your general point about how opinions on everything from the squad and players to the training ground seem to swing dramatically from one extreme to the other every week depending on whether we've won or not.

On Skipp though, it's not like that's his first ever game for us or in his career though is it? No I wouldn't expect anyone to look good playing next to Choudhury against Guimaraes, Joelinton and Tonali but he's not being judged on that game alone. He looks like a completely unremarkable player because that's what he is and my frustration is less about how good he is/isn't and more that despite our financial issues and a squad with some glaring holes in it, our biggest spend of the summer is on someone who now looks fairly set as our fourth-choice midfielder.

I think he was one of the positives early on. He's played well in games. It's a massive price tag to justify and it leaves him open to huge criticism when he has a performance like this one. You only have to look at how poor Soumare was to know that sometimes players need a bit of time. Spurs fans really rated him, and it's just a bit too much the way our fans write players off on here.

Yeah, I agree with this. The sort of player who is most effective when allowing more talented players to do their thing. Bit of a water-carrier type of player. Put him in midfield with Hamza and you've got a major problem.

£25M on a water carrier though, again, someone needs sacking

Yeah, I do agree. When we were first linked with him I said I thought he was a top-end championship player. £25m when funds are limited was pretty terrible business. Again.
