Good question however 34 goals in just over 100 games is a good return tbf

It's a bit more than just over. It's 121 games. Around 3.5 goals per game.

Just looking at international goalscoring record - he's only scored once against the top sides in Africa - Nigeria. Congo DR and Mali at a push.

Whoever sanctioned £5m for him should have been sacked there and then. It was obvious to everyone he's not worth anywhere near that amount.

Hindsight is beautiful.

It was still peanuts compared to the massive amount wasted on Skipp.

We reportedly spent the same as Ayew on Golding (who?) in an FFP exercise (fat load of good that did us, huh?), so we definitely made worse deals that summer.

Ayew still contributed 5 goals in our worst ever PL side, so he did at least make some contribution, albeit not a telling one. But he was well and truly abject last season.

It isn't hindsight.  Plenty were horrified at the idea of signing Jordan Ayew.

It was his attitude, work rate, commitment and general crapness that were the problem, more so than the fee.

Jordan Ayew would walk into (appropriate) my all time worst LCFC XI.

Was he an underwhelming signing? Sure. If we'd have gotten him on a free, I would've thought it was OK business to get an experienced forward, with some know-how and ability to win freekicks as a late sub.

The fact we paid a fee was poor, but from a business stand point we did worse than him. I concede that we're comparing different shades of brown though 😂

There are a few that have accurately called 95% of our last 50 transfers.

On age grounds alone I’d have vetoed Ayew and BDCR, never mind they’re both shit

The fact that they were players that Crystal Palace and Fulham didn't want was also the big alarm bell for me.

Even though at that point we'd been out of the PL for a season, these were clubs that in my head we should have been aiming way higher than, not buying their dregs.

I was somewhat alright with Ayew because I thought that he was being signed to come off the bench for 5 minutes to win fouls and relieve pressure and that he was only on a two year deal. Mad to think he's played 80 games for us though.

I do take solace in the fact that I was one of the only ones on here that thought Zaha was going to be a bad signing though lol Got ripped to shreds on here for that.

2 year deal and whatever we paid, something like 5m, maybe 7m? was ridiculous because he was just never worth let' say £3m in fees + £2m in wages per season. On a two year deal he'd naturally leave on a free so it's another total cost of about £10m for 80 appearances.

Reid will probably still be here next season, so the two of them will cost about £15m, Reid will leave on a free or nominal fee. Cooper managed us for about 10 games and is partly responsible for about £70m in losses with his pushing for Skipp, Reid and Ayew.

Agree on Zaha, he's never been that productive.

It was something like £5m + £3m in add-ons had we stayed up. Mad either way. He had 1 year left on his Palace deal when we signed him too.

We signed Coady for £7.5m + £1m in add-ons - he had 2 years left on his deal, was unwanted by Wolves and hadn't been retained after a loan at Everton...

Signed Winks for £10m - pretty sure he had 1 year left on his deal - and had been squeezed out of the squad, then out on loan at Sampdoria (relegated)

Sure, Winks was great for us for 1 year under Maresca, but they're just crazy deals really

We were fed a lot of lies that summer to be fair.

We were regularly told that we were fine with PSR because we'd met the deadline at the end of June having had sold KDH and lost Maresca with a big compensation package.

So I thought that a few million on an experienced head leaving a club that were sad to see him go was decent business. Very wrong lol

We've been doing it for years, I liked Castagne more than most but circa £15m for a fullback with a year left was a big overpay. The more supine posters on here said we had no choice when fleeced on deals when our players had < 1year left but it didn't work when the shoe was on the other foot.

I'd guess we've overpaid by 20% and undersold by the same. Fatawu was a rare good signing but £17m on a completely untried 19 year old was mental, imagine if we'd gone up and he was shit?

The Coady one was especially bad as Everton turned down a significantly lower option to buy (£2.5mil?) a month before we signed him.

So somehow he wasn't worth £2.5mil to Everton, who aren't well run themselves and are known for overpaying. Yet we go and pay 200% more than that.

Buzzing for tonight's hatewatch.

Was going to watch at home but half-tempted to go to the pub so everyone can hear me boo every time his miserable squashed pudding face shows up on screen.
