well that’s just based on his palace displays. He’s done very little for us so far in terms of that sort of stuff. on saturday he just kept giving the ball away and fouling, everything broke down with him… but the goal soon makes people forget that

Fouling beats letting the players just run through to the back line unopposed.   My comment was nothing to do with the goal, although the goal was appreciated.

I agree with this, I think his work rate for us has been poor so far, yet to see any reason why palace loved him. Needs to work harder. Looks half arsed.

Nowt so odd as football fans and differing opinions. I thought he was brilliant against Bournemouth- one of the hardest working players on the pitch for us that day. Then scores the winner against our relegation rivals. Not a bad couple of weeks for him!

He's a very limited player. Hard working and commited. But will not create much or overly influence attacking play. But he's definitely got a place in the squad for locking it up and consolidating where we are in the final 20+ mins. A player for holding on, not chasing a result. 

 

Saying that he bagged the winner. So perhaps all I've just said is rubbish!!!

When we signed him I thought it was a bad signing. However, at this point I was clinging on to this Okazaki type work rare that made me love him. For me I’m not seeing this at all? 

because it doesn't exist, he just trundles about, falling over with the same regularity as the average care home resident.

He gets through a fair amount of tackles and defensive work but yeah I think his work rate is being overstated in some quarters. I certainly don't think he's noticeably more impressive without the ball than Buonanotte, Fatawu or Mavididi who are all younger, fitter and a lot more capable with the ball than he is. He has his qualities, is good for the occasional goal and there are some situations he is ideal to bring into but I really can't see any reason for him to be even a semi-regular starter.

I do find ‘winning free kicks’ not quite the great trait for us others many. I’d rather have a player who looks to progress the ball forward on the transition rather than nick a foul which happened on occasions v Bournemouth

Why do I keep reading that Ayew is the man to bring on to see out a game?  Makes no sense to me. 

 

 If you are defending a lead, you need wingers with pace that can counter, potentially nick a goal and force the opposition to hold players back to counter that.   Not veterans that fall over a bit.

it’s all about keeping the ball in the prem when defending a lead. Especially for a club in our position.

much as I'd terminate the blokes contract tomorrow, it can be helpful to disrupt the rhythm of the opposition by having constant free kicks occuring in the middle third/their defensive third eating up time. Refs have long since given up punishing time wasting after all

Like i said before he is Okozaki number 2.  Works hard, abit of a headless chicken, and at times fluffs his lines at times does something out of the ordinary.  Good asset for a relegation team.

I get the arguments but I think you need to retain some threat of which ayew poses little.   We saw against Bournemouth how they could afford to replace their full backs and pour forward with impunity because we offered no threat. 

 

Personally, I think if you're going to park the bus, you need some pace in your forward line.

it’s  really about getting the right balance to be fair.  If we’re 1-0 against Man City, home OR away, we need to do what it takes to keep hold of the ball and deny them every opportunity to attack us. If that means slowing the game down, taking our time over a free kick.. we need to do whatever it takes… bearing in mind the squad we have, I’d actually say any top 10 team we should be doing that with. I just don’t think we have a strong enough defense to be giving the ball away as much as we likely would be  with the players we are playing  trying to really attack them on the break. I could see it working a bit more if we play Fatawu, but for whatever reason he isn’t so we need to play to the strengths of the team he puts out.

completely agree, which Cooper seems terrified of. He'd rather throw on defensive minded players and invite pressure than be brave and throw on players who want to keep the ball.

Yes, he's technically not great, but he has his moments, and he always gives everything.

 

For me he starts over an out of form Mavididi at the moment.

Tempting but then you lose the impact he has as a sub, both his goals have came coming off the bench. We definitely need an alternative on the left as those performances from Mavididi are too frequent.
