Not sure why he needed dropping in from the start. Evidently Cooper recognised we needed a legitimate attacking mid. But surely the sensible option would have been to start with Bueno and then bring this lad on at 60. Build him up incrementally. Not butcher his confidence in one go.

The trouble is you used the words sensible and Cooper in the same sentence. Logical and tactics don't go together with Cooper either.

It may have been sensible to recognise that Everton had a 39 yrs old left back who recently got sent off due to a misdemeanor after getting caught for pace. Logic may suggest that playing a fast footed Fatawu to exploit this rather than just play another pensioner whose only effect would be that they could both grow old gently together.

Against the bottom team that had been shipping goals, a sensible attack of Mavididi, Vardy, Buonanotte and Fatawu may have got them in a panic by pulling them all over the place leaving spaces?

Logically it also helps the opposition to keep giving the ball to attack us, so it may have been sensible to leave the main culprits JJ and Ndidi out for Ricardo and Skipp. Let's face it, Young was never going to whip Ricky for pace either was he!

Ricardo and Fatawu are also better defensively compared to Ayew and JJ on the right let alone from an attacking point of view. Our right side was a problem all game both from an attacking and defensive point of view.

We've seen the manager in the league before though so  you have something to go off. Judging a player after 45 minutes of his first game is absolutely ridiculous.

I’m not on my own on this forum, when it comes to feeling slightly baffled with  judgement of Cooper with ‘Cooper out’ threads, when we’ve played and competed in most of our matches (Saturday aside, which was mainly woeful)

One poster was genuinely suggesting that those with an alternative view to his ‘Cooper out’ opinion lacked ambition for the club…

Coopers longer track record is not all bad…. Not all good either, but he’s not the clueless half whit he’s being painted out to be either…. The impatience and tantrums is rather embarrassing

It’s beyond ludicrous in my view…. I recognise others will have an alternative opinion - CLEARLY! And that’s fine!

I was just pointing out the obvious (to me) irony in  @Finnegan’s post…

The irony!

Haven’t you, in the space of one post, just judged others for writing him off straight away with one hand and then characterised our (5 games in) manager for being shit, with the other?

Couldn't resist

Very few, if any, have actually written him off have they?  Just said he was poor on Saturday which is fair enough.  I think that the irony is that some of our more aggressive posters are just a bit quick to write off their fellow posters as 'dick heads'.

State of you. I'm assuming you wrote Vardy off after his first season? He's played 45 minutes where  our whole team had a poor half. If Alves comes in and isn't a world beater in 45 minutes, you going to want a new player to replace him too?

Ok don't get your knickers in a twist, I'll explain my comment. If Cooper had shown more faith in Alves and given him game time, we may have the player we are looking for and saved 18M. Bilal will need to be developed, and that will come at the expense of Alves. Ndidi and Facundo are our CAMs, meaning only one of Bilal or Alves will realistically get any game time. Since we've spent 18M on Bilal that decision has already been taken, which I think is a shame as Alves hasn't been given a chance. That's the crux of my comment, not dismissing Bilal as a failure after 55mins, but more the lack of faith in our own youngsters.

Once he is settled, mavididi, El Khannouss, Fatawu and Buanotte should be the only choices for starting places in the front 3. Ayew and BDCR should only ever be used as cover or to close out a game. sadly for us we all know that won't be the case.

Teams in the Champions League would love to have this..

This guy just doesn't seem to be given a chance so far.

Consequence of being in a Steve Cooper team that's average sub gets less than 10 minutes a game.

That's so true, just getting beyond frustrated now when all Cooper moaned about all summer was no attacking options gets what looks 2 quality additions through the door in El Khannouss and Buonanotte and Cooper basically refuses to use one of them.

He looks lightweight and settling in a new country whilst the manager works out how to play will not have helped.

sadly will take some time to acclimatise and maybe will need a change of style which maybe a new gaffer before we really see him !

Watched England game and it is a perfect example of why you can’t just play your exciting attacking players together, you need a defence too😂

England game only had Rice as a defensive midfielder or central midfielder. The suggested three would probably have 2 of Skipp, Winks and Ndidi behind it.

I wouldn’t take what england did tonight as an example of how to play attacking football. Rice was literally the only midfielder in the side… you can play with attacking players but it is about getting the balance right, you can’t just leave the whole of the midfield exposed so simple balls forward cause you a problem every time. Rice had zero support whatsoever

Got to give him time. Which is tough in our position but there’s signs he will be a good signing. Make no mistake though, he was a panic buy. Don’t think that’s one we chased all summer.

Beautiful hit there and very unlucky not to have a goal.

he’s going to be mustard in the championship

Very unlucky not to score with a great effort. I thought he worked his way into the game and was looking quite useful after an anonymous start. You just get the impression with him like with the rest of them that they are having to make it up as they go along on the pitch with minimal game management by Cooper. At times it looks a mess out there as a team and that’s difficult for a new player to come into, particularly a player who has been given minimal game time.
