See i'd argue the complete opposite. No coincidence Mavididi and Fatawu are struggling to dominate games bar the odd moment of individual brilliance and thats because Thomas and Hamza do not overlap or underlap and create overloads to free up the space for our wingers to wreak damage.

Agreed. Too often yesterday Brum doubled up on our wingers and Mavididi in particular was essentially nullified. Just having that FB going down the outside will give them something else to think about. Dare I say it, but it’s one area VK does actually do better than Thomas. Ricardo will also be a big upgrade on Hamza in this regard.

Feel like a really attacking LB could open up our play as much as any position. That along with an attacking CM and ST and it could be a very good window.

Depends what you are looking for I guess if you are looking for defensive stability then the fact that the full backs don't underlay does help as it means they don't get caught out of position. However it definitely does stifle our attack

I don't disagree. Going forward that would help no end.

However, with our confidence levels from a season where every time we coughed up possession we conceded as our full backs were out of position I think its a clever move to hold them back. It also helps support our slow CBs and allows one of the CBs to step into midfield to interrupt the oppositions play when they counter. Something Faas and Vestergaard can do.

My point is our wingers can have a go without fear in the present system as when the full back is up with them I think they fear losing the ball.

If we can get a 10 that teams fear it will create more space for our wingers. I like Page and I'm certainly not going to knock him, but he shouldn't be starting at his age and development stage. He needs 20mins here and there. If we can get Bilal back I think we will look more fluid in attack.

I like the current system. It's a bit pragmatic but I'd rather that and 3 points then fluid football and 75% possession and lose. If it stops working I hope we have a manager that will change the system.

It's notable that when we went to 3 at the back with wingbacks, both Thomas and Ricardo got forward. Sure Brum were getting a bit ragged at the back by then, but it gave space for Monga to set up Riccy

If a 16 year old makes that assist in the PL then it’s on a Sky Sports News loop for 72 hours

If he was on sky sports news loop for 72 hours then Wrexham would be knocking on the door

Agreed. Wait til that new youngster at Arsenal does it and they'll be fawning over it forever.

Has this guy come out of nowhere or did we know we had a star on our hands? Last I knew it was all about Alves? @Ric Flair you prob know

It's been known for a good while, I suspect those within our club for many a year. Generational talent if the stars align on him, unreal player.

He is going to be an absolute nightmare for tired fullbacks this season.

Whilst I do think he’s already better than Mavididi, like others have said he’s better suited being an impact player right now.

I reckon Martis looked out the amount of goals we conceded down the flanks with the FBs attacking last season.

He's adapting to what we've got, I reckon it will evolve when he can actually get some of his own players in

I think the keeping the full backs behind was a tactical move by Marti to protect against counter attacks which pulled us apart against Preston.

We saw in pre season Thomas bombing on making under lapping runs beyond the midfield. I'm sure I saw @StriderHiryu write something about it early in preseason

Watch our second goal and where Thomas is. Faes is covering the full back position as Thomas is up between him and Monga. He's technically behind Monga, but he's not exactly in a position to cover for a counter.

Quite possibly, it's a good thing to try and get a better defensive structure. If we do stick with more workmanlike full backs (like Enzo tended to deploy) then the central midfield has to have far more creativity and breaking the lines. Right now that mix is so turgid.

What's Aluko like going forward Ric? Looks imposing physically, could we see him sticking a few in at the back post or is that not his game?

Also can he play on both sides?

I wonder if Trey nyoni regrets leaving? Id rather be doing what monga is doing than him. Id bet monga ends up making more money by the end of his career as well. Nyoni will waste 4/5 years before being shipped out for a profit to someone like us ironically

Good, hope it makes others think more about chasing the dream and getting lost in the system. While the likes of Monga excel and when they do get their big move they're straight into the 1st team.

As long as that's anywhere but Liverpool. 🤣

Nyoni has played a handful of first team games over the past year

will be interesting to see how many first team squads he makes over the next few months.  Could be a few.

The other side of it is without a KDH (or even Ndidi making those runs) type attacking midfielder, we've got no one going into the half space regularly, to support Mavididi/Fatawu, in turn making it easier to double up on them.

BEK always drifted too close to Mavididi.

This problem hopefully starts getting solved with the addition of Ramsey and James.

He must have a very strong mentality already, to settle in well performance-wise and also dealing with his name being in the public eye at a very young age.
