I'm so happy for Sheffield Wednesday in the circumstances. Yet another weekend when they're somehow above the Blades despite their issues. lol

Sheffield United have signed 6 players permanently and 4 on season long loans. Manager can’t even blame it as being Wilder’s squad.

And among those signed are Godfrey, Ings, Chong, Tanganga, Matos and McGuiness. All players that have played in the championship or have substantial experience in English football. You're not telling me that this is the groundbreaking AI driven recruitment model that their ownership were after.

Why does this Ruben Selles guy keep making clubs hire him as a manager? Seems completely shite. Maybe he's more of a symptom of the state clubs are in when they take him on, firefighter with a extinguisher full of napalm.

Maybe needs to choose them better?

I don’t know if Ipswich dominated all game and could have been more than 1 up at halftime but to let in 4 after the break isn’t a good look for any manager given they have halftime to sort things out .

Ruben Selles record versus Leicestershire-based clubs:

2023 - His Southampton team beat Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester 1-0 at home.

2024 - His Reading team are taken to extra time by Mitch Austin’s Harborough Town at home.

On paper Sheffield Utd have a half decent team. Shows what a difference a manger makes. Get it wrong, and players just don't care and give up

Because of nowadays obsession with stats and data football. He plays nice football so a board wants him.

It was always a stupid move. I said when he was appointed, I’m no fan of Wilder but he’s a better manager than Selles.

I saw plenty of posters on here suggesting him for us lol

Ipswich have very good winger options, probably only 2nd to us. Still can't get my head around how much they've blown on the players that they did. Egali is a monster signing but some real wasted money too.

I do sympathise with Sheffield United as I know what they are trying to do.

Since 2016, apart from half a season with Slavisa Jokanovic, they have had Chris Wilder and Paul Heckinbottom. They panicked and went back to Heckingbottom when Jokanovic was sacked and likewise to Wilder when Heckingbottom was sacked.

Jokanovic was the first ever manager they had that wasn’t from England, Scotland or Wales. In 2021! Obviously Selles is now the second.

They clearly want to try and modernise and branch out. They tried in 2021 and it failed so they want back to the tried and tested Yorkshiremen. They have tried again and it has failed. Obviously having home grown managers, as with players, is a good thing. But I can see how they might be feeling a bit limited and trapped given their history.

It could be interesting to see whether Rohl would be tempted to cross the city divide or not.

I think Rohl probably sees himself in a higher profile role than Sheff United now. Whether that is realistic or not is another thing. I think if he crossed the city divide he'd actually lose credibility. I don't blame him for leaving Wednesday, but the manner in which he did, with such short notice before the season started, was poor. By all accounts the players were not having him when he finally went in for pre-season training. And I think that's something he's already slightly tarred with now.

Dyche is probably out of Sheff United's bracket right now, but someone like him to turn the ship around is probably needed. Selles clearly is just not working out—the owners have tried to change too much, too quickly.
