I genuinely think it's my doing. I started sarcastically doing it once, on here, because he was getting the flack for everything. I actually liked and rated him! It's right at the top of my CV anyway.

He has been bang average at best as a manager.

No chance.

I wouldn’t agree, he has secured promotion from league 2 with Orient and now has them challenging for play offs in league one  on a fairly limited budget.

What's their budget?

He wouldn't be in the conversation if he wasn't a ex player.

He's record at Doncaster, Oldham and Salford all poor.

Probably mid table

I’d hardly say he’s some incredible prospect but think you are being harsh.

He won League 2 with Swindon. I did win the EFL Trophy with Salford (a club no one has done well at because the owners get too involved).

I just think we can do a lot better.

Pearson, O’Neill, Little all cut their teeth at lower league clubs and had some record of success, Wellens has cut his teeth in the lower leagues, his experience at Salford was a weird one, as the owners wanted a change in style hired Wellens mid season and didn’t give him a pre season, they are a basket case of a club, winning the league with Swindon and promotion with Leyton Ortient and now having them challenging for the league one playoffs is no mean achievement.

What makes me smile is that some would be happy to see Kingy given a chance when he has zero experience but because he is an ex player, at least Wellens has some pedigree, experience and success, he gives me similar vibes to Pearson and Little not a sexy trendy appointment but somebody who wants to play good football but pragmatic enough to dig in when required to take points. Gives me the feeling he would grab this club by the scruff of the neck and drag us kicking and screaming into a new era.

He had a great knack of drawing fouls in.

So has Ayew and look where that has got us. Nowhere because we cant even take a free kick that creates a goal.

No one in the history of the game points more than Vardy does.

He probably takes the eye more as a former players but 2 titles with Swindon and Leyton Orient and FA Trophy with Salford is hardly to be sniffed at. Still young as a manager too. And he has pushed on with Orient too beyond just survival in League 1.

Oldham was his first job and where are they now? Clearly a club in decline for many years.

Doncaster no idea, it doesn’t work for a manager at every club. Again hardly like they improved that season and stayed up. Looks like they were also on the decline.

Id say there’s more positive about his record than negative. Very good FA cup this season too. I suspect he’ll get a go soon at a higher level. Whether that will be with us I don’t know. I’d happily give him a chance to build something if he can be committed to promoting youth.

The sad thing is he probably wouldn't necessarily be on Top/Rudkin's radar at all, even though admittedly Andy King has been brought back as a coaching assistant.  Have this board ever appointed a lower league manager before and not just 'a big name'? - no¬!

This is just a case of played for us and doing well somewhere now.

On that basis, if Simon Grayson's smashing it in the Nepalese Premier League in a few weeks we should give him a go too.

I think Wellens looks like a brilliant up and coming manager done really well at orient would be my pick

You aren’t kidding, are you?

No and it actually amazes me that some people complain when we look at the same managerial round about and say we should go for an up and coming manager but then laugh at anyone who suggests one

Ayew couldn’t lace Wellens boots.

Always thought Kingy was our biggest pointer. I need a definitive answer now.

Good shouts but I think being a pointer is about more than just pointing. It's a whole style of play. I think also you have to be a midfielder which discounts Vardy.
