The first few games have illustrated so many issues we have.

If we are going to play one up front and try a high press then we can't play with Ayew. He's just not able to play that role. Daka closes down better but is pretty hopeless most of the time.

The midfield has serious issues. Our best midfielder appears to be a moaning type who probably wants a move away and who is only on the bench. The two stating central midfielders offer almost nothing positive either in defense or attack. I'd say as much as we need a striker this area needs new players the most. We don't have anyone who can transition the play quickly enough and we don't appear to have anyone, a bit like Lennon or Kante, who can break up the opponents attack and help to shield the back line.

We are pretty much totally dependent on Fatawu and Mavididi for any creative influence, especially if BEK leaves. We have no midfielders who seem capable of breaking the line and running beyond the opponents back line.

Today was pretty woeful in terms of attacking performance but at least we dug in and looked to be playing more as a team.

Really need 4 or 5 new faces but not confident we will get them.

Talking to some Charlton fans after the game they were pleased with their own performance and expected more from us! I laughed ironically.

One moment of class was the difference. Okoli had a shocker, Winks was good in his limited time on and Daka ran hard and achieved very little.
We won though, which made the it all worthwhile .

I had a charlton stream on, they were raving about our backline and even stated “ I wish they were bringing on Thomas for the other Thomas”. Funny how things are viewed differently depending the side you’re on. For them, we were a gritty team hard to break down. Where as to us, we simply were allowing too many chances.

both were kinda true. probably shouldn’t have been allowing the danger but we did for the most part deal with the pressure well

This site is getting more and more depressing. Moan, moan, winge. And we won. 🤔

Let’s have it right we got duffed up by a team that couldn’t even get automatic promotion from League 1 last season.

I’m delighted with that. I’d have a team kicking shit out of us down as a loss all day long, especially given it was a team that (to put it politely) is in transition.

They ground it out though. They stood up to the opposition physically, especially the young kids. Yeah Monga was quiet, but he stood up to someone at times literally kicking lumps out of him.

We also defended well especially Hamza who I thought would get rinsed by Campbell beforehand.

Obviously still a little to work to, especially personnel wise before the window closes, but I guess I’m just delighted to see a bit of fight.

Another deluded sole.

We were nothing short of abysmal today. could and should have been 5+ by Charlton who are one of the weaker teams in the league

At the moment I care about the points on the board, the team will get time to gel, and the performances will come from there. Fingers crossed we don’t lose many more players and bring someone in.

the team is honking, the academy kids arent up to this standard (monga apart)

they need shipping out on loan to gain experience

we are in a world of trouble.

We will lose more players (2 from mavs  bek and fatawu) and bring no one in

If it continues into October, then get concerned. An improving more committed defensive performance was the best of today, that enabled 3 points. Onwards.

Loved him screaming at Fatawu for giving the ball away cheaply. We need players calling one another out when standards drop. Not seen enough of that for ages!

Noticed that as well. If he's going to organise and lead by example at the back then that's great, as far as I'm concerned- he's a decent CB at this level.

I agree his opinion does seem a little fishy.

One in a million? He hasn't watch Fatawu before then.

What a twonk

Yeah, but "it took a one-in-three strike from Fatawu to beat us" wouldn't have made them sound so hard done by, though.

The context for this was to make their commentary easier by not having two Thomas’ on the pitch at the same time.

It wasn’t an endorsement (or criticism) of Luke Thomas’ performance.

No we don't and doesn't sound like Marti does either, as he said Fatawu is one the players we want to keep.
I suspect he wouldn't be saying that about Faes, Winks and some others.
I think unless we get a silly bid of £40+ million, then he will be staying

Two glaring takeaways for me is that we desperately need a striker.  Every single time Ayew receives the ball, his first (and often only) thought is to try and win a free kick.  If plan A doesn't work then we can all see there is no plan B.  Daka is... rusty.

We also desperately need a CM.  We literally have three senior CMs in the team.  Skipp and Winks are similar style players (but Winks is better).  There's a player in Soumare but he just seems lazy and always looking to do stuff at half pace.

My fear with the midfield is that we are one injury or suspension away from going from a weak midfield to basically no midfield.

Totally that was the highlight of the game other than the goal obviously. I was right behind the Leicester goal for that and I struggled not to get up and shout have that you cvnts.  Showed some real spirit that did.  We battled in that second half and Vesty actually won some headers.

I was opposition-ending last week.

It's always a tough ask, not to scream obscenities at them, innit  lol

Somebody would need to come in with an eye-watering offer and there’s no sign of that happening yet.

The way I see it he talks a lot of sense other than Fatawu’s shot we was powder puff , it’s amazing how people look at a passing comment in a different way , some fans just have to accept we’re shit .

35 yards ?
