Yeah that’s what I’m saying. He was fast. I’d say probably Vardy fast. He talked about it himself on one of those Match of the Day Top 10 things. If o remember right I think he said he was probably as fast as Vardy.

I was really just making the point that pace isn't as important as many people imagine, the ability to be in the right place and slot the ball in is way more valuable imao.

Yet fast of mind is probably more important than fast of feet, I don’t remember Shearer or Fowler for example as being particularly swift? I also think this was true of Linekar too because whilst admittedly no slouch, his main asset seemed to be being or getting to the right place at the right time consistently, he’d gone before a defender had even worked out he was going. It happened so often it couldn’t be a coincidence.

No it wouldn't. It's been outside the qualifying time for decades. It's fast for mere mortals, it's faster than any woman, but not for elite male Olympians. 

 

Lineker, as I recall, was well known for busts of pace over short distances, which is generally more useful in football.
