the videos of Carranza absolutely stink. Touch, pace and shooting all look absolute shite even in his highlights reel.

That’ll be the one our scouts watched then, they bought the whole series a couple of years back entitled ‘Shite Players I Can Buy’.

Under Maresca he might have been a decent fit as we only played in one half of the pitch anyway so pace didn't really matter. If we can get a bit more control of games it may be less of an issue. It is an odd signing but I have no faith in us recruiting a decent striker even if we did spend money.

Nice to give someone a chance, even, before he has kicked a ball for us.  Foxestalk at it's finest.  Even, if we ever signed, peak Lionel Messi, some would say he is too small.

Usually people see a video and think we've signed a fantastic player so it's nice to see some balance.

Some here are no doubt shocked we weren't in for Izak or Wissa.

The comments he's extremely slow are a concern as that would appear to limit the ability to press but let's wait and see.

Not sure where I read it, but sure I saw that while he's definitely not electric he has got fairly decent "rangy pace". That combined with his high defensive stats make me think (/hope) if anything he'll add to our press as opposed to detract from it.

Be keen to see how we function with him in the team. Looks like he holds the ball up and his finishing in the box is his strongest part of his game. We need to be able to get up pitch and create these chances.

I get the impression that he's an Argentinian Tom Cannon.

F*** me lads can we see him play first lol our current standard is Daka and Ayew for god's sake

Yeah, the sheer fact he appears to have a pulse is an improvement on Daka.

Hate this kind of comment,  Imagine having an opinion of  a signing based upon what we have been able to find out from stats, previous club's fans and career to date.  Wouldn't that be odd?

Well, no.  After all, that is presumably what the recruitment team have done.

Look at it this way, when we signed Vestergaard for example, we knew he was a slow cumbersome lump in a Southampton shirt.  Therefore, you could reasonably expect him to be a slow, cumbersome lump in a Leicester shirt.  He's not going to miraculously turn into Kyle Walker is he?

It was an absolutely fair comment. There’s a difference between looking at it in a balanced way, like positives two footed, seems to have quick feet to get shots away, and the negative sides such as standard played at and pace compared with outright negativity, ‘he’s shit mate’!

I believe it is a case that some people want to get their opinion in straight away so they can stick by it and say I told you so. Rather than just giving him a chance and judging based on what we see when he lines up for us.

Self fulfilling prophecy comes to mind. People convince themselves and will him to fail, done back him and he will fail.

...and if his feet have slightly more sensitivity than concrete blocks it will be a bonus!

I mean for what it's worth i remember similar comments and vibes being bandied around when we signed David Nugent, whose stock was at an all time low.

If he turns out to be half as good as Nuge, who also had his limitations in pace and power, I'll be delighted.

Well I disagree.  The idea that we should wait until a player has "kicked a ball for us" before being allowed to have an opinion about the signing (unless of course it is positive) is ludicrous.  It is perfectly reasonable to be excited or disappointed with any incoming based upon what you already know of a player's qualities and career to date.

Such comments are all too often laced with hyperbole using words such as 'hate' or 'writing off' when all you are doing is expressing disappointment in an incoming transfer.

Should we be universally positive about every signing regardless?  Because we have a less than impressive hit rate in recent seasons and many of those duds you could see coming a mile off.

Limitations in pace? He was actually quick, just his running style that fooled people

Last 3 seasons

24/25 - Feyenoord

30 appearances - 11 starts

1,128 minutes - 12.5 90s

5 goals and 1 assist

Goal contribution every 188 mins

23/24 - Philadelphia Union

15 appearances - 13 starts

1,288 minutes - 14.3 90s

10 goals

Goal contribution every 129 mins

22/23 - Philadelphia Union

45 appearances - 40 starts

3,573 minutes - 39.7 90s

18 goals and 13 assists

Goal contribution every 115 mins

So a goal contribution every other game in his last full season? What are the corresponding figures for Ayew and Daka.

Why are we bothered about his pace? All his finishes are poaching goals from crosses or balls being worked into the box, which is what Marti is after. Every striker we were linked with was 6ft plus with ability both aerially and with their feet.

We're not still in our Vardy era... the Daka era never started.

New manager, new style, lets see how he gets on.

On a free they are decent enough stats - the Dutch league is miles better than the championship and he was a one in 2 man with limited game time - he is coming into a truly awful league and a team with 2 terrible strikers - if he works hard and scores 1 in2 for us this year it will have been a superb signing - every chance he scores more than daka and Ayew combined

Worst insult to Tom Cannon.

Being Argentinian is bad enough.
