Nice bloke who genuinely wanted to do well but ultimately job was way too big for him.

'Nice blokes' are the last thing we need.

Will go down as one of the most uninspiring managers ever which isn't easy after some of the trash over the years...

I raise you Craig Levein.

Hurrah!

Good job we didn’t snatch another last minute equaliser yesterday. You wonder whether that would have given Top and co another excuse not to do the bleedin’ obvious.

Indeed, had we not beat West Brom in such lucky fashion (or lost even) I think he would've been gone then....but definitely would've gone had we been unable to beat Charlton next week...even with Top's notorious dilly-dallying....just  mild surprise he acted this w/end instead for me, even though it was a justified sacking.

Please hire anyone who changes our fitness stats in a massively upward direction, understands that players who walk round the pitch are non selected again, and never picks ayew or LT ever again. Please just set us up to score goals and entertain.

Not sure I can fully support this... Ayew and Vestergard are still with the club

Mavididi, Monga, Page, Fatawu, Silko, Daka are all quick, Ayew isn't too slow to be able to get up the pitch. We just don't utilise anyone's pace by passing it between mid and CB continually

I think the sqaud is far better than 15th and no clean sheet since september.

Whether value for money is there, or not, Cifuentes has achieved the bare minimum from the squad available.

I don’t disagree it’s bare minimum (though not much worse than what I expected pre-season). But the idea it’s ‘far better’ is pushing it. I’m not sure which strikers and defenders you think are top end Champ quality on the Prem wages given to them a few managers ago now.

We shouldn't bring anyone in on a permanent contract until the new technical director is in place. Then sort out not just a new manager, but fitness coaches, performance analysts, sports physcologist and recruitment team etc. A clean sweep.

Then it is King and we sit tight until the Summer I would imagine.

I don't see him succeeding elsewhere... He is incompetent.

To be successful you have to do the basics like fitness, running, sprints etc.

We are the worst in the league for them, so unless the changes that he’ll never be successful anywhere he manages.

Yep that's how it will go i think. I would rather they put Doris the tea lady in charge than Russel Martin though

Yeah I remember on here it was bedlam when we were trying to get him sacked. Felt so long and drawn out that one.

Really hard to back him after the performances and his apparent lack of ability to turn things around but equally I have sympathy with the cards he's been dealt here. Played no part in getting us in this mess, left with a squad that doesn't want to be here and those above him who couldn't run a piss up in a brewery.

Who would be stupid or desperate enough to come here?

Also, sacking a manager with a week of the transfer window to go? Brilliant. New man starts in Feb.

I’m of the same mind.

It is quite obvious that the squad severely lacks a potent threat - or even just cohesive figure - in the striker role and without that I challenge any manager to get a tune out of the remaining squad.

Add in the huge fallout of love between fans  / the club / players - which is arguably the biggest issue - whoever comes in has a massive and unenviable task on their hands.

I do wonder if our fans realise how much damage the constant online social media negativity and criticism towards our own players is contributing to the ever growing mess the club is in - regardless of whether those sentiments perceived as deserved or not.

Yesterday I wanted him gone

But hearing the news has not excited me for future games

Who knows who will follow him

Still got a full squad of players who are so disinterested in the club it is unreal

Add in the players who are so delusional they think posting "I thought we played well for 2-3 minutes" was acceptable in any way and expect what

Still the same board, still no transfer activity

It just feels like, oh Marti has gone, meh who cares
