Given how uninspiring our team is now, are there players who most people wanted out of the club, but could now probably improve it (and are still playing).

I've got a few suggestions.

Ayoze Perez - still decent for Villarreal (and personally, better than many here appreciated)

Timothy Castagne - better than Luke Thomas and Kristiansen

Kelechi Ihenacho - surely an improvement on what we have.

Kel and Perez yes, Castagne, I’d have driven to London myself however in this league his work rate would’ve been enough…… only on the right though surely?

Ade Akinbiyi

I mean he probably just plays in the garden with his kids but he’s still better than what we’ve got up front.

Kramaric, Lookman, Castagne.

I don't rate football managers as a breed. They know the talk but rarely walk the walk. Everything is done to some kind of accepted formula. People expect great players to become great managers.

Simeone would have been sacked after a season had he gone to Chelsea.

Look at the subbing of James yesterday - Pipes on RL said he didn't understand it - neither did I. Cifuentes did the same thing - subbing him when he was creating chances. Taking your most inventive player off when the game's still winnable is crazy.

I watched Everton v. Chelsea last night. KDH with his socks rolled down. I'd have him back in a trice. But when he was here he was incessantly criticised by Eeyores on this forum. And he would be if he came back.

We went through what feels like scores of players after winning the Premier - it's like reading the list of the lost on the Cenotaph.

With Kramaric the club should have built the team around him. But there's this ethos that 'The Team' dictates who should or should not be included.

It's like when the Stattoes get their ipads out and state, trying to predict the outcome, '...well, the records show we do alright against the Constitutionals - won in 1907 and in 1936.'

Meaningless drivel - different team, different manager, different executives. The past is unimportant. We failed to use the talent available to us wisely and paid out big bucks for nothing.

Sorry for going off topic, but football is often mawkishly sentimental and delusional. If the supporters owned the club and could fire 'the board' would we not be in a better place🤔

I’d probably go Justin. I was quite vocal against him last season but clearly a player with a good head and attitude who was dragged down by the situation around him. It’s why I am hesitant to jump on the regular criticism of particularly Nelson and Stolarcryk who are in the first full seasons and for me, in the same boat where they will perform well once they leave us.

Also Justin would be a huge improvement over Ricardo who is painful to watch at this point.

Also trying to be realistic. The only strikers I could think of were Hirst and Cannon but I wouldn’t say I particularly called for either to go. In fact I specifically suggested we should consider not selling Cannon so we would have  recognised striker in the Championship. Not that he’s particularly pulling up trees though.

I assumed it was because he's not yet played 90min since his injury same as Lascelles

It would definately be a short thread if it was titled " players you wouldn't take back"!

Personally I'd take virtually all of the premier league "failures" back now except Bertrand - he was a straight up fraud.

edit.

Ofc I wouldnt have that four letter W back from 01/02 either, hated the man before, during and after he came here.
