Fousseni Diabate when we had him, would walk into this team now.

2 goal contributions in 20 matches in Turkey, somehow even worse of a record than Mavididi this season.

Amartey head and shoulders better than any of our current garbage CBs.

Looks like he's been without a club for 18 months...and he's only 31

Iheanacho is an odd one. I was thinking about him the other day.

The Iheanacho around the time of covid that got us to the FA cup final? Yeah absolutely. But the Iheanacho we had in the Championship was worse than Daka. He didn't give a shit at all. It was embarrassing and painful to watch and that's when we were decent.

Ayoze Perez would be an improvement though. Wouldn't expect him to prolific, his season in the Championship for a dominant Newcastle he scored 9. But still better than what we have. By a slither.

Oh and one that most of you DIDN'T want to leave - Tom Cannon?

He's got less G+A/90 than both Ayew and Daka this year. Something for you to mull over.

One player wont make much of difference to this less than 90 min team

One player who I was glad to see go due to his injuries but always looked very good against us is Matty James. May be a bit old now to get back, but if he’d stayed injury free would’ve had a pretty impressive career.

Would Hirst or Maswanhise be worse than our options up front? Probably not.

But I can't actually see any players still active that we were happy to let go that would improve this side (possible exceptions would be youth prospects like Iversen or Bassey).

Perez was a decent grafter, but he was soft and had one good game in ten - and that was in a good team. I don't think he would have been noticeably better in a poor team like this one.

It's a good question and there are obviously several players that we didn't want to leave that I'd have back in a heatbeat. But I honestly can't think of even one that I wanted gone that is currently still playing that I'd want back despite the dire straights that we are in. Same for managers/coaches.

people clamouring for George Hirst to come back here? Christ on a bike. Daka is bad and Ayew isn't a footballer but Hirst is not going to answer our needs... WOW

The problem with comparing players from other teams is that it completely ignores the very obvious X factor going on at our club right now. The horrific morale, the loss of confidence, the lack of interest, the poor organisation, the abysmal tactics.

You could put some world class strikers in the side and they wouldn't just magically make the difference.

Hirst and Maswanhise legitimately weren't good enough when we moved them on. You can sneer and laugh at Daka and Ayew all you want but they've achieved things in their career that neither of those two probably will and are almost certainly better footballers on paper.

A big part of why Daka and Ayew are so poor is the entire atmosphere and context of what's happening in our squad at the moment and anyone coming in would be impacted by it just the same unless they had Roy Keane levels of confidence and professionalism.

I mean look at Julian Carranza. Can manage thirty odd goals in sixty odd games for Union in the MLS but looks like a pub footballer when he rocks up here for Leicester? It's not like the modern MLS is all that different in standards to the Championship either. There's way worse strikers in this league than him scoring goals.

We're just cancerous. Whoever turns up here gets smothered by the general smog of our squad.

Exactly, context matters. JJ is the outlier and Mukasa's early promise seems like it has already evaporated. It's telling though that none of the unwanted first-team players over the past decade have done much since they left (Ayoze excepted). Probably means the club were right to let them go.

You have to wonder what will clear the 'smog' though. Is it a bit like at Man Utd the past decade and Spurs now that the culture that permeates the clubs has been eroded and will take years to rebuild?

Not exactly clamouring. But there are extremely few candidates (i.e. players that we wanted gone and would have back now) to even consider.

This is an angry shout, he was a plonker. Tried hard I’ll give him that.

He still has a better record than both of them per minute per goal, and at 23 on less of a wage would’ve been a better option than both

As much as I don't love we've adopted a MAGAism, we do need to drain the proverbial swamp.

At this point I'd clear out a good 90% of the squad and be having a really good, solid look at some of the staff too.

The biggest thing the club needs is a top-down reassessment of our culture.

It's the number one thing we miss from the Pearson years, an actual consideration of personalities when we recruit. No Dickheads as Brentford put it. We need this desperately.

A lot of pips were getting down about Vardy towards the end of his time here but he alone would make the difference now with his goals and attitude. One alone man that would keep us up this time.

It's hard to see another way in our current situation. Then again, when we got Maresca in and he instantly got performances out of a relegated team, changing our playing style completely, maybe it wouldn't require such a hefty clear out, but just a clear plan and strategy.

Not sure there are as many as 90% bad eggs, but we just have a lot of staff including players who are overpaid in relation to our current position and we obviously can't sustain that.
