Hasn't been vaguely linked to us, neither has anyone I guess really.

People mentioned him last summer, I think would be a good choice.

Odds on to go the Blackburn.

Got it on good authority we haven't even spoken to Brussell this time around. However, I have always been convinced he ends up here at some point and staggered it hasn't happened yet.

You shouldn't post things like this, how else will this theread get to 200 pages of people slating the club because they've been told/heard that RM is on his way.

If I’m Challinor, I’d probably see us as the more attractive job. Zero compensation, proven promotion winner - we should be all over it.

Blackburn would be closer to him than us cannot see him choosing us over them, when they are in a division higher.

Whoever comes in will have to play a variant of possession football because most teams will sit back against us. We will have more possession in virtually all the games we play—it's just a matter of finding a manager who can play possession football effectively.

You look at League 1 last season, the likes of Cardiff and Lincoln attacked it in completely different ways. Cardiff under Barry-Murphy ranked 1st for possession, Lincoln under Skubala ranked 24th.

I just don’t want to see a manager that is completely obsessed with possession. 60% + possession in pretty much every game, that is slow and ponderous, with no real purpose of speed and directness.

Certain managers like Martin are a massive no-no.

To confirm, Dave Challinor has not left #StockportCounty in order to *directly* take a new role.

He is strongly linked with the Blackburn Rovers job, but that (or any other role) would be completely separate.

County have worked with Challinor to agree a deal for both parties to call it quits - there would be no compensation due if any other role is taken this week, next week, whenever.

Only for now. Blackburn only avoided relegation due to our points deduction. Get him down to Seagrave.

Sheff Wed the only other possibility currently. Unless he wants a break until something better comes up before Christmas.

Yes there are different ways to get out of League One. But a lot of people seem to use 'possession' as a derogatory term, as if trying to keep the ball was an inherently bad thing. I'm just pointing out that there is a huge variety of ways to play possession football, not just Russell Martin's way. We all seem much happier about the possibility that our new manager might be Dave Challinor, whose Stockport side were 4th in the possession table last season.

Ah yes hiring the ex Stockport manager as we plan for life in the third tier, all is forgiven!!

It’s the over excessive tippy-tappy nonsense, that you just know certain managers would bring is what turns me off.

You look at certain other statistics with Stockport, 11.0 for PPDA, 1.90 for direct speed, 2nd for direct attacks, those are very respectable numbers that I could get on board with.

If Russell Martin or similar came in, you can guarantee we’d rank bottom of the league for direct speed for example.

Maybe I'm delusional but from I'd imagine outsiders perspective would see it more likely that Leicester do back-to-back promotions than getting Blackburn getting promoted in the next 2 seasons.

That's from an outsiders perspective, as anyone who knows the club well enough knows how much needs to change.

First pony trot of the season tomorrow. If we're not announcing anyone today then you can expect a couple more weeks silence lol

I moved to Manchester from Leicester over 20 years ago, and with Stockport being my nearest team, they've become my adopted second team.

I've watched them a lot over the years from their time in league 1, down to non-league and back again. Dave Challinor for me is a great manager who we should be going all out to get.

I can't see it happening because he's not a yes man and Rudkin and Top would not like his no nonsense manner, so most likely we will end up with the useless 'Poundland Pep' that is Russell Martin.

Challinor excels in building strong and solid teams throughout and then adds a touch of flair as in the likes of Louie Barry on loan. Also, he has a great judge of character and does not tolerate poor performance. An area we have been severely found wanting over recent years. In addition to Barry, there's also the potential of luring Ollie Norwood who is far too good for league 1 and Adama Sidibe who is a strong, raw and pacy striker.

If our owners are serious, they should be going 100% full throttle to bring Challinor in. Sadly, I suspect we all know this is not going to happen.

It looks like he'll end up at Blackburn, but we should at least try. Yes, I'm biased and a touch deluded, but I think Leicester and our setup gives Challinor a far greater chance of reaching the Prem in the coming years.

You're not far from me. I used to live near the centre of Stockport, before they redeveloped that new estate.

I know people that work with the club and what a transformation. It's a shame they've not quite cracked it for Championship but of the Manchester satellite towns, they're best placed to become an alternative to the City/ United. They might even get actual locals supporting them over City!

Why would Stockport agree to release him on a free when they were almost certainly going to get some compensation for him?

It could be that there are stipulations in his contract about budgets and/or resources being made available to him and Stockport aren't in a position to honour that so rather than get messy, part ways amicably.

Why? They've taken us to league 1 oblivion,  absolutely clueless.

No revisionism will ever be required with these 2 clowns.
