Tuchel says “no one saw that coming…” of James & that “he came in to the squad fully fit.”

The guys played 2 games since March both for England, I think most of us saw it coming Thomas & now you have to shoe horn a player into the RB position, probably a CB or the guy you have just realised isn’t good enough to play on the left.

I imagine now when attacking we will go 3 at the back and O’Reilly moving into midfield as James did so no overlapping fullbacks with the so far pretty ineffective Gordon now reliant on trying to beat a man on his own.

Pretty poor squad selections in defence, do we need 6 CBs?

Taking James was probably worth the risk but w had to take the extra full back to cover it. And then to take Livramento as well. Really poor planning.

Bet Trent is laughing into his vodka in Ibiza.

Am I right in saying England's game is abit of a dead rubber?

Winning the group is important, I think

Who can England play in the last 32?

England currently lead group L, with second-placed Ghana, level with the Three Lions on four points, playing Croatia in the other match.

Both games kick-off at 22:00 BST on Saturday.

If England match or better Ghana's result without losing they will finish top.

That would then set up a match against one of the eight best third-placed teams.

If DR Congo beat Uzbekistan in their final group K match at 00:30 BST on Sunday, they will play England.

If DR Congo draw or lose then England will play Senegal, unless Croatia lose to Ghana.

There is a scenario where England could face the third-placed team from Group J, which would be one of Austria and Algeria, who play each other in their final game.

This would happen if DR Congo draw or lose and Croatia lose and Group J gets a position. This would most likely happen through a draw, which would mean England play Algeria.

England could still play Austria if they lose by one goal and Croatia lose and DR Congo do not win.

If DR Congo draw or lose and Croatia lose and Group J does not get a best third place, England play Senegal.

If England were to finish second in their group, they would play the second-placed team in group K which is currently Portugal.

We want to win the group and avoid a Portugal or Colombia.

Is that if we finish second?

From the BBC...

As it stands, they're set to play Senegal in the last 32, but it will be DR Congo for Thomas Tuchel's men if they finish third in Group K.

Spence is the only reasonable option left.

Moving any of the CBs is shitter than shit. Like playing Dan Burn at LB.

What about Oriley ?

and maybe move Konsa to RB and Stones in the middle

Imagine being Senegal. Playing France, Norway and England in your first four games at the world cup. Probably the two biggest favourites for the title and the form team out of Europe.

I actually want us to finish second in the group. You have to win matches against the best countries if you want to win the World Cup, granted, but I think playing away in Mexico City's altitude and then straight after that in Miami in the heat and humidity will take too much energy from the players.

Stick to the air conditioned stadiums. Focus on performances. Go as far as possible. Winning the group looks like a trap.

Where would the last 32 game be if we top the group - guess 5pm on a Wednesday would mean early afternoon in the US?

Toronto, then Dallas, then LA, then Dallas again, then the New Jersey final. Verses Atlanta, Mexico City, New Jersey, Miami semi.

I actually thought Miami was straight after Mexico City, sorry. But still one looks far less taxing on travel and playing conditions than the other.

Compare that to France who are New Jersey, Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas. While also having their basecamp right near Boston.

Argentina have a tough time with travel aswell but they might not have to play a major nation until the Semis.

Draw today and either Ghana/Croatia beat eachother, or if Ghana beat Croatia whilst catching up with our +1 goal difference and overtaking it. Scenario 3 is we lose to Panama and either Croatia/Ghana is a draw or Ghana win.
