I think his point was actually more shots = exciting football, hence the 'dont know what you people want'. Thing is, i dont want to see a hit and hope shot after 45 sideways passes were the opposition have been given all the time in the world to get in the perfect defensive formation.

You're (and Russell's) conflating "exciting" and "attacking".
I'm pretty sure Russell insinuates the latter, but he also seems to think that this is what counts as exciting and what fans want.
Like you, I think most of our fan base feel that the fast counterattacking style employed during our best years were far more exciting than the measured football attempted ever since.

More can be done, certainly, but would it have an effect? The board/owners have not listened to fans for many years, if ever. Why should they start to now when the criticism is at it's highest? The club are doing what they can to cut off fans and leave them disillusioned.
Top is living in a bubble and is completely inept and/or misguided as to what the causes of the club's decline are and he's wholly unequipped to deal with getting it back on track.

As far as I can remember it has never got to the stage of chanting in the stadium for the previous managers to go. Maybe that is required.

No I not having that at all. Did you go to Barnsley and MK? Even last night we should have had 5 or 6. The chances aren't always poor quality at all, they are poor technique and decision making.

Keep playing like that and we'll be fine

Sounds familiar

The '135 shots' thing conveniently draws attention away from where the real issue always lies with his teams, which is that they always leak a high number of goals.

He simply does not know how to coach a team to defend effectively. Never has, never will.

And if you're leaking goals every single game you play, then it means you're having to score at least 2 or 3 every game yourselves to have a chance, which makes winning very difficult.

Which we found out, as did Rangers.

Painfully true

Just for context, here are some more standout OPTA stats for the league season so far. Bear in mind, Burton and Plymouth have played 9 games, while nine other clubs have played 8 games. Leicester have played 7.

Attacking:
# Touches in box: 190 (ranked 8th) - 57 fewer than team ranked 1st (Stockport) and 82 more than team ranked 24th (Bromley)
# Hit post: 2 (ranked joint 11th) - 6 fewer than team ranked 1st (Stockport)

# Offsides: 8 (ranked joint 21st) - 23 fewer than team ranked 1st (Plymouth) and 2 more than team ranked 24th (Oxford U)
# Headed attempts: 14 (ranked joint 18th) - 32 fewer than team ranked 1st (Stockport) and 10 more than team ranked 24th (Oxford U)
# Headed goals: 1 (ranked joint 13th) - 6 fewer than team ranked 1st (Wycombe)
# Fast breaks: 2 (ranked 24th) - 1 fewer than team ranked 23rd (Luton) and 14 fewer than team ranked 1st (Huddersfield)

Goals vs xG: -0,89 (ranked 15th) - 7,35 fewer than team ranked 1st (Burton) and 6,52 more than team ranked 24th (P'boro)

In brief: We make few runs/passes in behind and we get roughly the amount of goals we should from the chances created. We keep it on the deck and we have a lot of touches in the penalty box. We are very ponderous in possession, sacrificing counter attacks completely.

Set Pieces (can't be bothered to go through all of it):

In brief: We've created 11 fewer shots than we've conceded from set pieces (1,90 xG for and 2,70 xG against) resulting in 1 goal scored and 1 conceded.
Indicates we're defending them reasonably well (ranked 2nd) while also being inefficient at the other end (ranked 23rd).

Defensive:

# Tackles: 89 (ranked 22nd) - 81 fewer than team ranked 1st (Burton)

Ground duels won: 52,5 % (ranked 3rd) - 4 % less than team ranked 1st (Stevenage)
# Interceptions: 36 (ranked 24th) - 13 fewer than the team ranked 23rd (Wigan) and 44 fewer than team ranked 1st (Burton)

# Recoveries: 323 (ranked 15th) - 70 more than team ranked last (Oxford U) and 119 fewer than team ranked 1st (Stockport)

# Blocks: 14 (ranked 24th) - 8 fewer than the team ranked 23rd (Stockport) and 36 fewer than team ranked 1st (MK Dons)
# Clearances: 159 (ranked 24th) - 30 fewer than the team ranked 23rd (Stockport) and 149 fewer than team ranked 1st (Wycombe)

Aerial duels won: 49,4 % (ranked 14th) - 8,8 % more than team ranked last (Notts) and 9,7% less than team ranked 1st (Stockport)
# Goals conceded from fast breaks: 4 (ranked joint 1st), although we've only conceded 9 fast breaks (joint 8th)

# Oppo hit post: 4 (joint 3rd) - 2 fewer than team ranked 1st (MK Dons & Cambridge)

Errors leading to shots: 9 (joint 1st) - 8 more than than team ranked 24th (Notts) but 0 errors leading to goals (

In brief: We are very vulnerable on the break and we make very few tackles or interceptions (probably explained by our very high possession rates), but are generally successful when we do make them. We are actually a bit fortunate that we haven't conceded more given the errors we've made at the back. We hardly make any clearances and we have been saved by the woodwork more than our fair share of times.

Passing:

Average Possesion: 68,0 % (ranked 1st) - this is 9,6 % more than the team ranked 2nd (Stockport)
Passes attempted: 4286 (ranked 2nd) - 269 fewer than the team ranked 1st (Stockport)

Pass completion: 87 % (ranked 1st) - 0,9 % higher than team ranked 2nd (Stockport)
% Forward passes: 31,7 % (ranked 23rd) - 0,2 % more than team ranked 24th (Stockport) and 24,5 % less than team ranked 1st (Bromley)

% Backward passes: 16,9 % (ranked 19th) - 1,2 % less than team ranked 24th (Notts) and 3,2 % more than team ranked 1st (L Orient)
# crosses attempted: 96 (ranked 15th) - 79 fewer than team ranked 1st (Bradford) and 28 more than team ranked 24th (Oxford U)

% Successful crosses: 20,8 % (ranked 13th) - 8 % less than team ranked 1st (Stockport) and 8,6 % more than team ranked 24th (Burton)

Through balls: 13 (ranked joint 3rd) - 4 fewer than team ranked 1st (Huddersfield) and 12 more than team ranked 24th (Cambridge)
10+ pass sequences: 107 (ranked 2nd) - 17 fewer than team ranked 1st (Stockport) and 99 (!) more than team ranked 24th (Bromley)
Direct speed (forward meters per second of a sequence): 1,61 (ranked 2nd) - 0,07 more than team ranked 1st (Stockport) and 0,5 less than team ranked 24th (Bromley)
Passes per sequence: 4,48 (ranked 1st) - 0,26 more than team ranked 2nd (Stockport) and 2,76 more than team ranked 24th (Bromley)
Average sequence time: 11,29 seconds (ranked 1st) - 0,14 more than team ranked 2nd (Stockport) and 7,29 (!) more than team ranked 24th (Bromley)

In brief: We make loads of sideways and backwards passes, we don't make many crosses and we are far more careful with the ball than all other teams. We do make a few through balls, but this may also simply be by virtue of the volume of passes (0,35% of passes).

Pressing:

# Pressing sequences: 71 (ranked 21st) - 58 fewer than team ranked 1st (Plymouth) and 12 more than team ranked 24th (Oxford U)

PPDA: 11,3 (ranked 7th) - 2,9 more than team ranked 1st (Oxford U) and 5,3 fewer than team ranked 24th (Wycombe)
High turnovers: 32 (ranked 23rd) - 41 fewer than team ranked 1st (Plymouth) and 2 more than team ranked 24th (Wigan)
% HT ending in shot: 31,25 % (ranked 1st) - 4,22 % more than team ranked 2nd (Sheff Wed) and 28,55 % more than team ranked 24th (Luton)

In brief: We don't engage in the high press very often, but when we do, we tend to be very efficient at creating a chance.

This deserves to be bumped again so here we go.

Absolutely sick of this shit

Same. I did naively think this summer was a fresh start. I wasn’t keen on RM as an appointment but I assumed with the right backing, he would be good enough for League 1. My personal opinion is he has been well backed with a really well balanced squad that may be the best in league. If it’s not the best, it’s certainly in the top 6. But because he is so inept we find ourselves closer to the bottom 3.

It may be an expensive solution but if we don’t win well on Saturday, I want him gone before Sunday morning.

I expect we will win on Saturday which will only buy Martin some time and prolong the agony.

As matches tick by with RM in charge, a tipping point will come when we have to write off the season.

Always the same isn't it.

Guarantee we win on Saturday and suddenly everything is brushed under the carpet for another few months.

For me, the only way this turns from 'Martin Out' into 'I'll give him until Xmas' is if he wins the next three (very winnable) games back-to-back.

Thats the corner he's painted himself into.

Nothing less, should be, or is, acceptable.

135 shots (disputed) of which 129 could have been saved by Danny Ward , Alex Mccarthy, Conrad Logan & me (probably all in the same goal at the same time).  Highlights the delusion of RM & his team.

We play well for 10 mins of most halves & then the rest is slow / tepid shite.  It's embarrassing 😳

What kind of a lukewarm argument is "x amount of shots on goal" when you don't or hardly ever score?

Fckin hell.

You can argue filming an encounter with a football manager.

But it wouldn't be necessary if the club would actually have some sort of presser again. Instead, we're spoonfed shallow, pre-fabricated pre- and post-match statements.

Really don’t get this argument of keeping him if he wins the next couple of games.

What has anyone seen to suggest we will??

We’ve been unable to beat absolute shit so far this season and lost to Oxford and Burton at home.

Get him gone.

It's an IF he wins. Not saying we will.
But... IF he wins the next three, that would show form, character and that he has the players playing for him.

Wouldn't sack him in those circumstances

It would help if the local media asked him some serious questions too.

Are the local press and RL frightened Martin/KP will impose a Trump like press core ban if they called him out?

Bring it on if that's the case and confirm to one and all the shambles that KP has become.

Would it though? Granted it would show form not so sure on the other 2 It’s hardly difficult teams.

We should win the next 3 comfortably.
Against sides in the bottom 6.
I felt the same when we played Burton, MK Dons, and Barnsley.

Don’t forget ENERGY.

I’d say the club have more to lose than the media if that happens. The national media would hound the club relentlessly.
