Dave Challinor for me. Quick AI search suggests he could even fit the 'possession football' criteria....

"Dave Challinor implements a highly purposeful, possession-oriented tactical philosophy that typically dominates the ball. During his highly successful tenure with Stockport County, his teams averaged 57% possession. [1, 2]

Rather than keeping the ball purely for defensive safety, Challinor uses possession aggressively to pin opponents back, squeeze the lines with a high defensive block, and sustain attacks in the opposition half. [1, 2]

Core Tactical & Possession Profile

Average Possession: 57% (documented during his title-winning campaign with Stockport County).

Preferred Formations: Fluid structures, most frequently utilizing a 3-4-2-1, 3-5-2, or a flexible 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 depending on recruitment and squad depth."

Who's left of the great Pep pretenders that has not realised the game has moved on yet?

Is it just that Will Self, or Will Smith, or whatever the melts name is?

The EFL (Championship, League One, League Two): Analysts estimate that over 60% of the 72 EFL managers attempt short build-up play as their primary philosophy. Even down in League One and Two, goalkeeper and defender recruitment heavily prioritises technical passing skills over raw physical clearance

This team will not get promoted without the ball. It's a fact as we do not have any pace in the entire squad.

Whoever comes in will need to recognise that we can't sit in and hit teams on the break.

But, whoever comes in also needs to recognise that asking Warren O'Hora, Luke Thomas, Harry Souttar, Alex McCarthy to play out of the back is a recipe for disaster.

He also prefers to play out from the back with short passes ….

I think most will be surprised how many managers rely on this play, as my other post eludes to.

A couple of weeks ago we had a day at my work place where, for one reason or another, we had no manager. It's happened before and on every occasion things have been fine. In fact, dare I say, things went smoother and more effectively without interference, as we all knew what we had to do.

I knew friends who had told me that their workplace ran smoother without the manager in too, so I knew our experience wasn't unique. Which got me to thinking, "could the same happen as a football club"?

Then lo and behold...

Vince says Forest Green not looking for new manager

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cqdr8y7rdpy7o

Forest Green are going to see how it goes without a manager, just individual coaches.

I mean, could having no manager be preferable to having RM? I expect a resounding chorus of yes, but it'll be interesting to see how it works out for Forest Green first.

Watch this space.

The problem we would have is that the root of our problems comes from our inept board.

If they were to clear off and take RM with him.....

Don't you have a £2 billion buy out for the club, if only they send £5 million and sign over the rights to the stadium to free up your funds?

I want anyone but Martin but I really don’t feel good about Lenny

feels like rolling the dice rather than going for a safe option in Edward’s or challinor.

AFAICT, he's not - which is the point? He had 5 years at Stockport, taking from the National League to the League One playoff final, and it seems they all felt he'd taken them as far as he could and they needed a change...

Bob-on from the AI! Purposeful pressure is how I'd put it. They knew how to stretch and play through a low block, and they were prepared to hit a big fella on the back post when necessary. Good side

We need an Manager who has proved itself for getting promotions in League One.No name because I Dont have no idea about League One,trying to used to it but we need to get out here,we cannot endure that

We'll moan whoever we get, it is the nature of being a football fan, but no one wanted this current charlatan from the start.  If anyone in the Ivory towers at Leicester had an idea of what the average fan thought of RM, then they wouldn't have touched him with a barge pole.  So until Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee get out of our club, I will have no confidence in our next choice of manager.

On second thoughts, I am so fed up with our situation that I would like to see Tony Pulis given the job (I am at that self-loathing stage for our club).  He'd make them do defensive drills until they were sick to death of them, the players would hate it.
