Do not know. They have wanted this for three years and have invested in his players. The likes of van Nistelrooy and Cifuentes seemed like stopgaps, Cooper was heavily backed but seemed a back-up option when Potter refused the role.

This is the first choice and a long term idea. No clue as to what might be next. I doubt failure was even considered.

Carlos Cuesta was sacked as Parma manager recently, prior to that he was Arteta's assistant at Arsenal and was considered one of the best up and coming coaches in Europe. During the season where Arsenal made their first unexpected title challenge, he was a key part of it. A coach like that may get found out in League One, but it's worth noting that when Parma were in Serie A, Cuesta actually went for quite a defensive style of play, presumably because he didn't think they had the players to play attacking football. After we lost Maresca, I thought he might have been a good pick.

Challinor is the one I wanted during the summer though, and would be the coach I would go for right now too.

Who's left of the great Pep pretenders that has not realised the game has moved on yet?

Is it just that Will Self, or Will Smith, or whatever the melts name is?

I cannot see anyone remotely being interested at the current asking price although @Ric Flair did allude to some interest care to share more?

I don't know much, but there is definitely interest but whether it'll happen yet who knows.

According to reports Christian Fuchs was the other manager considered for the job, and really wanted it,  but was pipped by Martin.  I don't think he's in other employment yet but waiting for the right opportunity, so maybe he'd be a credible option if Martin were to be sacked.

But would he insist on choosing his own playing style and have influence on transfers, and would the board be prepared to accept that?

I think calling Russell Martin the new Steve Bruce is incredibly harsh on Bruce, despite him losing his way a bit towards the end of his tenure. The guy won promotion four times and steadied a couple of clubs in the top flight. Martin could only dream of that.

Yeah, Steve Bruce was actually a very good manager for a long period of time. Just didn't adapt with the times

My concern with Fuchs he will risk his reputation returning. I dont think at the moment its the right time.

Really shouldn’t let this sort of stuff bother us. Can separate the playing achievements from the management ones. If he offers something and does the best he can, that’s enough.

We can dream - but who in their right mind would want to manage this pile of shit and a club in free fall???

Loads of upwardly mobile managers would absolutely love to manage a club of our size, constantly talking ourselves down and going for shite arse unemployed dud managers is what got us here

A couple of weeks ago we had a day at my work place where, for one reason or another, we had no manager. It's happened before and on every occasion things have been fine. In fact, dare I say, things went smoother and more effectively without interference, as we all knew what we had to do.

I knew friends who had told me that their workplace ran smoother without the manager in too, so I knew our experience wasn't unique. Which got me to thinking, "could the same happen as a football club"?

Then lo and behold...

Vince says Forest Green not looking for new manager

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cqdr8y7rdpy7o

Forest Green are going to see how it goes without a manager, just individual coaches.

I mean, could having no manager be preferable to having RM? I expect a resounding chorus of yes, but it'll be interesting to see how it works out for Forest Green first.

Watch this space.

If Martin is sacked, then my shout for next manager is Jon Rudkin! At least when he fails we can sack him and finally get him out the club 😜

He would probably get a promotion

Might be wrong but sure Fuchs has been at a few of our games this season.

Not sure he's be right, but he'd positively unite the fan base.

Challinor is the obvious standout candidate

underneath that - Robbie Keane would be a top choice but likely unobtainable

then for me it’s Damien Duff, followed by Fuchs

If Martin does get sacked, which I don’t think he will.

it’ll like be Fuchs to get the fans back on side, will also involve many ex Leicester players etc etc. Not overly sure it would work either but it does fill the heart
