BT asking Harry Kane if he and Son have worked at their relationship or if it's 'telepathic'.

They've been playing in the same team for over 5 years and Son was nearly sold after a disappointing start to his time there. I'm pretty sure hard work and literally thousands of hours working together on the pitch in games and training will have done it.

That or brokeback mountain..no judgements, just saying.

This countries infatuation with comparing anything to the war will never not be weird

How do you find it weird?Of course the world wars are going to get mentioned frequently. The 12 month spell between the fall of France and operation Barbarossa was probably Britain’s finest. It was definitely Britain’s toughest.Anybody with a parent over the age of 75 will have a parent who actually lived through at least part of WW2 or the grim after years. Is it weird for them to compare situations?

Because while it should be remembered, the world has changed so much in the intervening time (and as time goes on those changes will only continue to increase) that it's difficult to understand why people might use it as a comparison for suggested behaviour right now.

Both world wars were in the last 100 (or so) years ago. That's still recent history and not surprising its still vividly and emotionally remembered, especially as people living today will have grandparents who died in one of them.

Would you please explain this comment?

Being infatuated by a war, and I assume WW2, was an anathema for my parents. My Dad was a prisoner of war for three years and my Mum was bombed out of her lodgings in Highfields in Leicester. In what way is that weird?

They are merely trying to tell you what those young people had to deal with in their twenties

I think everyone knows and appreciates what people lived through during the war, it doesn’t mean we need to compare everything we go through now to living through a world war. People struggling through a pandemic in 2020 is absolutely fine and completely separate to living through a war

I think people are missing the point that @Samilktrayis making about the war. Theres nothing wrong with remembering the war, there's nothing wrong with mourning the lost or celebrating and appreciating those who fought. Correct me if I'm wrong @Samilktray, but I think you are talking about those that equate everything to the war, act like everything from brexit, covid or a football tournament can be likened to war, and how this perceived war spirit this country supposedly has will see us through any challenge, or that these challenges are like being in a world war.

Yeah this is exactly my point

I do agree that for a minority it’s become an obsession and that certain examples do not compare to modern times. It’s can serve as a bit of a reality check from a personal point of view from time to time. I often think back to my grandparents stories to get me through tough times. It must have been a horrifying time to live through but the best stories are the ones about them having fun whilst it was ongoing.

I can only think that on hearing people bemoan their lot with the lockdowns etc., someone will remind them of the fact that others have had it worse.

Using that as a ubiquitous argument for all situations  is asinine. If that is happening then I agree with you

The extent to which politicians turn up briefed to get a couple of points across and say nothing else is killing the TV & Radio interview.  You only get a few minutes as well. Partly blame the media for chasing a soundbite, and partly political parties for going to 100% soundbite politics.  This has a number of consequences one of which is people see their MP as a party political automaton rather than a person.  Its all gone to shit.

Leading questions are awful. Even if football, asking 'how special is the league cup?' to a Brazilian player that couldnt give a fvck but just agrees to be polite.

Also hate the enquiry q's that ask 'its a simple yes or no' to sound assertive when the answer is anything but a simple yes or no without context and therefore adds zero value to anyone.

I think this a part of a larger problem concerning what might be called the "commercialisation of communication".

People don't want to hear the truth, they want to hear what they want to hear. And in this digital age, they can most often find and sometimes pay for a source that *will* tell them what they want to hear, because there's money in it.

End result? A communal race to the bottom regarding public communication whereby soundbites are what people want to hear and the journos have to give it to them or they don't have a job.
