Waking at 3:30am and unable to get back off to sleep. Real men shouldn't be awake at this time of day - we get up at 10am whether we want to or not.

I find nowadays I'm my mid forties I can't sleep for more than 4-5 hours at a time. So I just get up, have some breakfast, quick look on my phone, then go back to bed :P

Look at phone for some hours. Wait for wife to wake. Wife feels sorry for me and offers to make coffee and toast. Cover bed in toast crumbs. Snuggle a retriever. Back to sleep happy in the knowledge people are now commuting to a job they despise.

Absolute animal to eat toast in your own bed.  Please assure me you at least shuffle over her side to do so?

I'm not going to sit on the floor to eat it.

This is me post-retirement. Get up for a pee about 7am, back to bed, listen to people going to work. Lie in/snooze/sleep till I feel like doing some toast or scrambled eggs. Usually around 10am.

Even better now the mornings are chilly.

Gone are the 4:30 alarms to be at work for 6.

People thinking JSO have any role to play, positive or negative, in climate change. Whilst ignoring the Finch ruling going to court in a month or so now. probably due to the dumbing down of the world in general, which is the grind gearer.

In terms of (access to) knowledge, the world is smarter across the board now than it's ever been.

The problem IMO is that it still lacks a critical something in matters like the above which becomes problematic when it's a matter of political policy subject to the knowledge (or lack thereof) of everyone.

People. I just really don't understand some of them. I have the most insane conversations with customers on a daily basis.

Here's a selection from the last few days...

A woman bought a car from me, 3 months ago. It broke down and is in our workshop getting fixed, all under warranty. She told me "I don't think the car is worth the price I paid, give me discount or another car. Also, I need refunding for calling the AA because I forgot you gave me RAC cover" Sorry, doesn't work like that!

Couple in on Sunday, looking at a new long range Nissan Leaf. Car is 35k, we have absolutely no margin in the vehicle at all if they buy on our 0% finance. However, if they pay 'cash', basically a bank loan, I can knock £11,000 off the price of the car. The woman walked away because we wouldn't chuck in anything free lol She literally said "well I don't want a car that doesn't come with mats". Seriously woman, I've given you ELEVEN THOUSAND POUNDS off a car. And by the way, I don't have a secret stash of mats laying around to give to people, they have to be paid for and are locked away in the parts department.

A regular one is also "I see you've got this car for sale, you're quite a way from me, there's a garage local to me doing the same car a thousand pounds cheaper, any chance you could..." Absolutely not, why are you even talking to me if you can get it so much cheaper?

The public are weird.

POV

When did POV... I.e. traditionally "point of view" just become a synonym for "here's a video". 99% of videos aren't POV at all.

Is this just oblivious TikTok morons? Some stupid meme like adding "Nobody: ..." to jokes that didn't actually need it? Or is it just another case of words losing all their meaning in order to appeal to the all-important algorithm gods?

The second paragraph is the true gear grinding issue here, I think.

I'm in this boat these days! Used to sleep like a log in my 20's and 30's. Struggle to get 5 hours now! Any ideas why we can't kip like we used to?

Getting older...

Why Does Aging Affect Sleep?

It is common for older adults to experience changes in the quality and duration of their sleep. Many of these changes occur due to changes in the body’s internal clock. Located in a part of the brain called the hypothalamus, this internal clock is made of around 20,000 cells that form the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN).

The SCN controls 24-hour daily cycles, called circadian rhythms. These circadian rhythms influence when people get hungry, when the body releases certain hormones, and when a person feels sleepy or alert.

As people get older, their sleep changes due to effects of an aging SCN. Deterioration in the function of the SCN can disrupt circadian rhythms, directly influencing when people feel tired and alert.

When I was a mortgage broker, although I admittedly worked for a company that charged a decent fee, I would occasionally turn up with a deal that absolutely sorted customers out - organised their personal loans on which they were paying silly interest etc - and potentially made their lives miles better, and they would flat turn it down without thinking. I would often leave, musing to myself that 'no wonder these people get in the shit, they only know chaos'.

People are genuinely delusional.

The most incredible one I've actually come across was a guy in his 50's, quite aggressive, part exchanging a 14 year old Nissan Navarra with over 100k on the clock.

He was deadly serious and said "someone's offered me 15 grand for that on Facebook last night. You give me 14 and I'll buy your car"

I just replied "Please tell me you mean 14 hundred and not 14 thousand?""

My boss had to invite the guy in to the office to show him the value of his car, he wasn't having it at all lol

People leaving their bags on seats on a packed bus when there’s no space. Unbelievably selfish. The bus went past about 4 stops because he couldn’t fit anymore on.

I just ask them to move their bag. No one has said no yet but they definitely huff and puff about it.

I prefer to ask on behalf of someone, eg 'Do you mind moving your bag so this person can sit down'

Somehow this makes the bag blocker look like an even bigger douche bag.
