Looking for some advice.

Early Thursday morning I was assaulted by a couple of guys outside a bar. I fell and hit my head on the ground, hard.

My mate called an ambulance as I lost consciousness and was unresponsive. I remember waking up in the ambulance and being taken to a largely empty A&E department of hospital 1. I was vomiting and exhibiting other signs of concussion. Eventually I was given a CT scan which I was told was clear and my BP was fine as well, so I was released pretty much immediately. I wasn’t given any advice on when to come back in, how long I needed to rest etc they just wanted me out. I feel I should make it clear that I was not overly drunk, abusive, loud or otherwise a pain to deal with- I just lay there. I wasn’t given any Ice for my head or any prescription for pain meds.

I went to work the following day and had a headache and still felt dazed which I Just assumed was normal. Over the weekend I had the absolute worst head and neck pain imaginable, kind of like a two day migraine with ringing in my ears and more vomiting. I took migraine medication and called 111 who advised I go to A&E. It was Saturday night and obviously we are in the middle of a pandemic and my vision was unaffected without any more loss of consciousness. So, coupled with the clear CT scan and pressure from my girlfriend to avoid exposing my self to a hospital environment again we decided not to go to A&E.

Monday morning and still a severe headache and ear ringing I thought **** this I’m going to a different A&E.

I arrive at hospital 2, all day waiting - very busy so understandable,  especially because I had a clear CT scan already. Eventually the doctor sees me and does decide through advice from a more senior doctor to do a second CT scan. Results come in and I have a fractured skull. I asked how it was missed in the scan in hospital 1, he said he didn’t know. I asked if it was small enough to be unrecognisable to a more junior doctor, he said not really no, it was pretty clear.

Was this malpractice? I am very angry with how I was treated in hospital 1, I feel like I was considered less of a priority because I had been drinking.

Legally, would I have a case?

Skull fractures can be very difficult to pick up on a CT scan. The scans are looked at and reported by radiologists, who sit in a room somewhere and do not know what you look like or whether you are drunk.

Was the second doctor who told you it was obvious an A&E doctor? If so, he wouldn't have been the one reading the scan, and what's obvious in hindsight to him may not actually have been that obvious.

Also, it depends where the fracture is - if it's on the outside of your skull and there is no associated bleed, it's unlikely to have been related to your symptoms and they would not have treated it anyway.

I honestly couldn’t tell if he was an A&E doctor or not, it was difficult to tell who was who and to take everything in when I was in that much pain. I believe that he was overseeing the doctor who I initially ordered and interpreted the second CT scan at hospital 2

He was clearly a senior figure though, and  he mentioned that he also works at hospital 1. I distinctly remember the look of confusion on his face when he was informed that I had already had a CT at hospital 1. He told me he will speak to someone at that hospital to find out why.

Clearly if they emphasised to me that the fracture is so tiny and irrelevant that it would be easy to miss, then I would understand. This was not the case though, as I now have to go and see a specialist.

Sounds like an A&E consultant, who doesn't usually formally interpret CT scans. Anyway, doctors are human beings like everyone else, and not 100% perfect. If everyone put in legal challenges for every healthcare error we wouldn't have an NHS left. It doesn't sound like there's a case from what you're describing anyway. I'm sorry you felt ignored and I hope your symptoms resolve soon.

Yeah I fully appreciate that, what really annoyed me was how the nurse spoke to me when I was released.
kind of like a “There’s nothing wrong you need to go”.

If the treatment and recovery is unaffected by the delay then just  an acknowledgment of the error  would go along way to settle the bad feeling.

Thanks for the response

They won’t acknowledge it mate, then they are admitting liability if you change you mind and sue.

Mistakes happen. Obviously if a year down the line there are serious repercussions to this then maybe do something but if it were me I’d put effort into getting the person who assaulted you locked up and if they have money suing them.

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone used AliExpress before and if so, is it any good?

Ebay seems to be getting worse but it looks like there's loads of stuff on AliExpress but I've no idea if it's kosher or not.

Yeah, had loads of stuff off them. Mostly reliable, can be a long delivery time though.

It's basically like Wish and those other Chinese stores. You have to be careful of fake stuff because sending them back won't be as easy. But if you see something you're set on buying then no reason not to use them.

My mates had a few things from them that have only been slightly faulty and whens he complained they've reimbursed him and told him to keep the item as it costs them too much to return.

I think I bought something years ago (can't actually remember what it was, it was that shit - think it was a watch...lol) off Wish via FB.

A couple of weeks later, I get repeated attempts of hacks in to my FB from places like Vietnam, Hong Kong and China. Took me about a week to get back on to FB trying to go through their verification process (which was equally shit). Never touched it again and hid the ads I would get.

I must admit I get a lot of spam I suspect is from them, cannabis oil, Russian brides, bit coin etc. Probably be a good idea to create a separate email account for dealing with these types of companies.

Anybody else feel like they're turning into their Dad?

I feel like like the older I get, the more I'm turning into my Dad.

I catch myself speaking like him and using the same mannerisms as him and more and more people tell me I look and sound like him.

It's freaking me out a bit tbh.

Yeah. I think everyone gets that as they grow older.

What's worse is when people tell you your son is turning into you. That makes you feel old. I just say "no, he's turning into his granddad".

In a way, I'm experiencing the opposite to that.....

I've spent my whole life being told I'm "just like my Dad" in appearance, attitudes, interests & personality (including by my Mum, who generally didn't mean it as a compliment!).

Yet, in recent years, I've come to realise that in some of my traits I'm just like my Mum.

Indeed, I now suspect that it was because of similarities, not differences that there was sometimes a bit of friction in my relationship with my Mum.

Funny you mention mannerisms. About 10 years ago, a mate came round my parents' home and couldn't believe how apparently I had all the same facial expressions and hand gestures as my Dad.

Did we have songs for Lennon, Elliott, Taggart, Heskey, Guppy etc?

The only O’Neill era songs I’m aware are Iwan’s, Ooh aah Mustafa, Claridge’s and Walsh’s off the top of my head. Didn’t seem like we had a great song book at the time tbh

Has anyone sold anything to CEX and posted the stuff off to them instead of taking it in to the store? From what I gather they pay you before they even receive the items, just wondering if anyone has had any issues with them after they’ve received the items?

I've just got rid of a load to Ziffit, Zapper and Music Magpie. I found CEXs system to be a pain in the arse and had too many to take them all down to the shop.

Ziffit were the best prices for DVDs/BluRays, but CEX is best for games. My mate sells a lot of his games to them.
