Corky Posted 5 April 2012 Posted 5 April 2012 McCarthy tops my list now, and also Kenny Dalglesh Good to see you are being realistic about this.
yag101 Posted 20 July 2012 Posted 20 July 2012 A poor workman blames his tools. A great manager can do an outstanding job with average players, if he is tactically clever and flexible, knowing how to nullify and counter opposition. Generally Pearson makes poor substitutions, not often do we actually find a way back into games, normally it just becomes a give and go as he throws on more strikers to rectify the situation, with little thought about actually winning the game.

I agree with what you are saying, but the Thais have chosen to keep him for the time being, and so we must all hope for better things. Probably, I am Pearson's biggest critic, and nothing has changed my view, but for the sake of the club we must give him at least until New Year, to turn the ship around, though I very much doubt he will.

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 20 July 2012 Posted 20 July 2012 yay - the return of this morale boosting thread . . . . . . . . ..
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 22 July 2012 Posted 22 July 2012 Is anyone the long term answer these days? no, very true, even a manager at the same club for 3 or 4 seasons these days is a relative veteran . . . . . . .
bluesbrothers Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 I'm gonna stick my 2011 neck out and say yes.Haters gonna hate.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 I'm sitting on the fence here. N.P. has turned things around this season, and I have been most impressed. The Premiership is a different kettle of fish from the Championship, and experienced managers have a greater insight to life within it, so it maybe that reason he wont get an opportunity to manage us next season. However, I believe that should we gain promotion, then we should stick with him, as he will have deserved the opportunity. Experienced Premiership managers have to do it for the first time. Give him a six to twelve month contract, and give him your support, City.
fuchsntf Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Theres an old saying... 'Be careful for what you wish for' IMO..We should invest our future in NP Even if city struggle next season NP should stay at the Helm. If we get re-relegated depends how season ran. Changing for changing sake has never brought success. Who comes up as a better candidate, names only would not cut it for me. Just because we will be promoted, doesnt mean we are a well established club with a top squad. We start from from scratch. That means if we can hold onto him and we can stay the 1st season in the premiership, NP stays. NO QUESTION...!!!! More importantly what/which players in the present squad, can develope in the Premiership, what top players will be available, and would want to join city, or who can we entice.
Native Fox Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Imagine, if we went up and he was sacked this summer. 99% sure that wouldn't happen but would you be completely took off guard? I wouldn't.
Deucalion Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 Give Pearson a three year contract (if he will sign it) in the summer and stick with him. I'd rather give Pearson time to learn than get some mercenary who did such and such in some foreign league, as is the fashion in managers these days. In fact, if we are in the PL next season, Pearson will record a top half finish with the club.

Surely if we are going to support him then he should get at least a 2 year contract.
CKB Posted 20 February 2014 Posted 20 February 2014 I would say yes...He's got this club back in such good shape that it will benefit our future, he will continue to do what's right for this club but not bankrupt it in the processHe will get players in who wanna play for us not the wage they getHe along with his scouting network will keep finding these gems (Knocky, Mahrez) which will also in turn provide us with a good futureSo basically give him a 3 year deal and lets see just where NP could take us....
pazzerfox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I'd give him a three year contract. We have seen that given time he can assemble a squad of talented, hungry players that can develop and be a real asset to us. We are playing some good football which, in my opinion, will only get better. He commands respect, takes no sh*t from overpaid wanabes and nurtures young talent. After the years of dross we have seen, we are finally playing a brand of football similar to the O'Neill years and given the nature and ambition of the owners and manager, it can only get better!
ealingfox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I would love to see what Nige and his team could do with even a conservative Prem war chest.
Littletoe Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 What idiot wouldn't offer him a contract extension at this moment? He has been given time to develop a squad of players that show winning mentality. Even when our backs are against the wall, we somehow manage to claw back a decent result. Been a long time since I was at Filbert Street enjoying the late 90's period, but I have a funny feeling Nigel could reimburse that same feeling of facing Manchested United and co next year! Shame on those who wanted a quick, so called expert manager to replace him and drive us into the Premiership straight away. This has been a good few years process and we have enjoyed it along the way.
Brooksy Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I would love to see what Nige and his team could do with even a conservative Prem war chest. Same here. Summer will be exciting if we get promoted that's for sure.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 If he isn't our manager next season I will literally give up all hope.
deanolegend1989 Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Give NP a 3 year deal at the end of the season and do what Mike Ashley has done with Alan Pardew in putting his faith behind him no matter how bad we do next season. Next season, even if we get relegated(IF we keep Nige we most likely wont anyway) stick with him and most likely he will get us back up first time of asking. The only time Id consider getting rid is if we get relegated, then the season after by xmas or so were in a poor position(well below the playoffs)..if so then Id say thanks Pearson for everything but move in a different direction. Until then though he should be rewarded for what hes done, if of course he finishes the job this year. 3 year deal, improved terms top: 'thank you Nige, you deserve it..your our man and were right behind you this year'
