I've since gone back and watched the first few episodes of the first series and the drop off is absolutely noticeable IMO. It's like a different show. 

 

It's so obvious that since it was the last season with guaranteed huge viewership, Amazon slashed the budgets to maximise value, and it massively suffered as a result. Everything more or less takes place within a series of rooms with a handful of extras. S1-S3 has huge outdoor set pieces all the way through. 

 

And I get that the cancellation of Gen V probably threw a spanner in, but the writing in the last season is so inconsistent. Character arcs that go nowhere. The power scaling was all over the place (seriously Homelander's laser eyes cutting people in half, then at the end they don't even damage their clothes anymore?). The entire V1 storyline turned out to be completely pointless. The dick and arse gags were painful to listen to at times. Essentially Homelander was built up over the entire series, along with the "scorched earth" stuff, and he basically did nothing. 

 

I still enjoyed watching it because I was already invested - but the last season was a massive disappointment with awful writing, carried by the performances of the actors.

Not an overly big fan of the secretary and the Megawatt character. I also miss more fighting/action scenes. There's too much talking, so it starts to resemble a soap opera.

The ending is a bit underwhelming, too. I wanted to see the threat of a new supervillain/a new threat on the horizon so bad.

 

Then again, I haven't read the comics. Maybe the nerds can shed more lights on this.

 

All in all, for someone who has grown up with TV series seasons lasting 20+ episodes, today's "seasons" are a bit of a joke.

Yep. I quite liked that documentary. I think she lost her temper og made a crazy decision. Her parents are something else too.

Yeah her parents were definitely something else, her mum in the court saying he was a new friend really wound me up.

So Doctor Who is offically over... well for now anyway. Christmas special cancelled, Russell T Davies quits and Bad Wolf productions withdrawn. Probably for the best last six years the show as been dreadful needs a good long lay off. Fans didnt seem to upset with this annoucement which tells you everything.

Steve Carell is either a big hit or a big miss for me but I think this is just perfect for him.

 

 

 

Just finished & loved it. All the leads were perfect especially Steve, Phil & Charly & It had some great supporting characters like Mo (Robby Hoffman) glad they have a S2 being lined up :thumbup:

Honestly for the best. RTD2 was mostly a disaster. I was optimistic when he came back but he absolutely ****ed the show in multiple ways. He’s not only left the show in a worse position narratively but now its entire production is up in the air and nobody wants to produce or act in it for fear of their career, and now the actor tied to the role of The Doctor is going to be asked relentlessly about what’s going on when she only signed on to do a cameo for a friend. 

 

Best case scenario - give it a rest for a couple of years, and get a showrunner without a connection to the show to breath new life into it.

 

My preference would be waiting for Jack Thorne to clear his slate and cast Michael Socha as The Doctor, bringing the show back in 2028/2029. Ignore the Piper regeneration and start it off kinda like Rose in 2005; new Doctor, keeping his recent history vague and letting the audience rediscover him through a new group of companions. Try new stuff with the format - Flux was mostly shit but the serial format could work with a much better story. I’d like to see them trying out 2 serials a year so that it’s on every six months or so for a handful of episodes.
