ealingfox Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 Exactly, give him 3 years and he won't be as good as he is now, just my opinion though So why sign someone now if we won't need them for years? What kind of opinion is that? Pretty safe bet don't you think? Give it 7 months and the weather will be warmer, just my opinion though.
Babylon Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 Interesting hearing what NP said about plans in the January transfer market seems quite pleased when you listen on the football forum so obviously it could well mean he is able to bring in his targets which he has identified which is good news. What did he say exactly? I missed it.

MC Prussian Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 Due to financial fairplay, I don't think we will and can splash out the big cash comes January. If the squad's going to be strengthened, it's going to be a proven Championship player at a bargain price (e.g. a free and on low wages). Or else, Wellens, Danns and Beckford could all be recalled towards the latter stages of the season. The way I see it is that we've pretty much got a really balanced side with a terrific work rate and attitude this season that needs little to no improvement squad-wise.
ealingfox Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 "Manager Keith Hill believes Barnsley can play without fear when they travel to big-spending Leicester City on Saturday." Why are we still stuck with the 'big-spending' tag? We didn't spend big in the summer, whereas Cardiff and Blackburn spent huge and have escaped the resentment we got, and are still getting. (As an aside, we didn't have to sell out our entire history in our spending as well)
Ric Flair Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 I think Matty Phillips is feasible, I don't think he'll get a Premiership club as his career has stalled this season since asking for a transfer. All eyes are on Tom Ince, Blackpool may still want good money for Phillips but they are a selling club and if we are serious about promotion, players like him should be looked at. Phillips, Knockaert, Marshall and Dyer would be an incredible attacking midfield force, not to mention King with his goals.
deep blue Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 Wood would be quality I have to say from the start that I've only seen a limited amount of his playing time, but he strikes me as a hard-working, NP type player, and his current goalscoring speaks for itself. Someone commented that he's been with quite a few clubs, and is only just coming good. I see this as a good thing - he has been serving his appenticeship, getting as much varied experience as possible, and it is now bearing fruit. Crucially, he's only 21 (today!), and I suspect he's the kind of player that managers might have some confidence in thinking he'll make the step up to the Prem in short time. If we're well in the promotion frame come January then an extra goal-scorer will be good to enhance our prospects. Of course, there's the balance between disrupting or improving a small squad, but the extra option up front would be good and you always have to consider the possibilities of injury to our current strikers. But NP also has to look forward to us being in the Prem next season. I think this season we've seen the benefit of NP bringing in Marshall, Morgan and Drinkwater in last January's window - giving them a long time to bed in properly so that they could be more "up & running" at the start of this season (could be even more important next season if we're in the Prem).

(As an aside, we didn't have to sell out our entire history in our spending as well) Compared to Barnsley we are big spenders, we have spent a lot of money in the last 18 months, we have recouped a bit as well with the sale of players, but clubs like Barnsley can't compete with our spending power and the wage packages we can offer to players. Nobody is surprised Blackburn spent big, they have parachute payments, and sold off a few of their stars too, and until the bought Rhodes we comfortably out spent them this summer, as for Cardiff, don't really know how much they have spent, but I don't think they have made any signings like 5 million for Matt Mills and 3 mill for Beckford.

I'm pretty sure Cardiff have spent 10m plus on players this season as well as paying players like Bellamy a handsome amount of money I imagine. They paid 3m alone for a korean player in the summer.
coolhandfox Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 Can't see us doing much business, maybe one in at most, Pearson isn’t a panic buyer! We have a decent squad that’s so far doing a good job! I think there more chance of getting rid of some dead wood, Gallagher, Wellens, Danns and Beckford

The People's Hero Posted 7 December 2012 Posted 7 December 2012 Post of the Day! You'd have loved the transfer targets with our millions thread. It was from when Milan was poised to take over. You can imagine the disappointment at the time and mirth in retrospect.

They should release a DVD of the County's 90's exploits, I'd watch that over live action anytime now, to see Ben Smith and Phil Simmons putting on 300 against Nottingham again. On a separate point I've been wanting a DVD of Mike Atherton's 185* for years and never manage dto find one.

He basically seems to be able to get videos of ANYTHING cricket related and uploads them. He's the only person I'm subscribed to and it's worth it. He might be able to at least upload a video of it. I have no idea if there is one already uploaded but it's worth mentioning just to spread the word of robelinda2. He's even done a video of every Ricky Ponting run out in international cricket - all 55 minutes of it
