bovril Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Everything he said about Wenger was truth. Hardly. So Mourinho won a couple of Premierships with Russian oil money? Wenger built some of the greatest sides in English football history without breaking the bank. Getting tired of Mourinho fan boys lapping up his 'banter'. It's a sport ffs, not the celeb section of the Mail.
Kitchandro Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Don't like Jose personally but you can't fault him for being entertaining. I don't find him entertaining at all. Quite the opposite in fact. Being a dick is only funny for so long. Now it's like he's just going through the motions. In fact Wenger does it much more humorously than him.
Uncle Albert Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Very disrespectful from Jose regarding Wenger. Hope Rodgers doesn't get sucked into his games.
Super_horns Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Rooney on 300k a week? Will Man U be offering that to all the top stars they want to buy...
Bayfox Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Hardly. So Mourinho won a couple of Premierships with Russian oil money? Wenger built some of the greatest sides in English football history without breaking the bank. Getting tired of Mourinho fan boys lapping up his 'banter'. It's a sport ffs, not the celeb section of the Mail. Not a fan boy as you put it. But jose won a uefa cup and a champions league before he even arrived at chelsea. He won every domestic trophy here. He stopped barca in Europe with inter and in spain with real.Wenger is the only manager bar moyes who could still be in a job after nine years of winning nothing. Yes his teams of 15 years ago where great. But he hardly did it on peanuts at the time. He inherited a awesome back 5. 7.5million bergkamp. Spent 11 million on henry. I think jose had a point. Just maybe went about it the wrong way.
Dan Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Rooney to sign new deal worth £300k a week! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26216913 Absolute joke.
foxfanazer Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Rooney to sign new deal worth £300k a week! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26216913 Despise that moron. Sooooo overrated!
Fox92 Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Curbs and Wilkins sacked. That didn't last long. Hardly. So Mourinho won a couple of Premierships with Russian oil money? Wenger built some of the greatest sides in English football history without breaking the bank. Getting tired of Mourinho fan boys lapping up his 'banter'. It's a sport ffs, not the celeb section of the Mail. Was going to post virtually the same thing. I've seen Leicester against some top sides, Barcelona and Madrid included, but the Arsenal's teams I saw were the best. Vieira, Henry, Bergkamp, Pires etc they were absolutely outstanding. Can't stand Chelsea, constantly going off Mourinho.
Unabomber Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 So does anyone know if Meulensteen is still there?

There's a difference between that and the kind of cringeworthy worship of his sub-sixth-form banter that has gone beyond tedious. He has done well because he's excellent at organising and motivating a team, not to mention the fact he's had money to buy very good players. His success is nothing to do with any mind-game genius. His comments on Wenger just confirm how superficial modern football has become. If anybody finds this entertaining they should give up following the beautiful game and stick to X Factor. Now, to put the two manager's success in perspective. Firstly, as Fox92 says, Wenger created one of the greatest English sides of all time. Growing up as I did, watching football in the late 90s, it's hard to overstate just how exciting it was watching this team. Nine years of winning nothing? As pointed out in the FA Cup thread, winning means nothing these days unless you qualify for the CL, which Wenger has done every year without the financial clout of Chelsea. Would Chelsea have won those trophies without Mourinho? Possibly not, but even di Matteo won a CL with them. The fact there is this debate about who is more 'successful' says more about modern football than the two managers.

But I stand by what I said to spark this short novel of a post. Sorry.
Uncle Albert Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Mourinho could never build a side like Wenger did with the Invincible's even with Roman and his billions in the bank, that takes a real special manager to do what Arsene did back then. What a side.

The fact there is this debate about who is more 'successful' says more about modern football than the two managers. That is exactly what Mourinho was getting at. Of course winning is everything! During the last 9/10 years, Wenger has had the mentality that 4th is fine, and it doesn't matter if they don't win anything as long as they get CL football. Whereas it secures financial stability and media exposure, it is such a defeatist and terrible attitude to have. What kind of message does that send out to the players? They start to see a comfortable 4th place finish and start to take it easy. They should want to go out and try to be winners, win each game, gain trophies etc. If you play for a top club like Arsenal, you should want your trophy cabinet at home to be full, not just a few youtube clips of some good CL nights .

I suppopse it depends what price you're willing to pay. I can see where people are coming from when they criticise Arsenal's conservative approach but there's lots to admire by putting financial stability first, and I don't think it's because they have a 'defeatist' attitude that they haven't won anything since 2005. Anyway, the original point wasn't so much about Wenger but Mourinho and some fans' need for controversial soundbites.
Stadt Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Wenger is too unnecessarily stubborn, had they bought a top striker in January they would be properly in contention.
Uncle Albert Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Wenger is too unnecessarily stubborn, had they bought a top striker in January they would be properly in contention. Who in January was available with enough real quality to come in at Arsenal and maintain their challenge?
Sharpe's Fox Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Who in January was available with enough real quality to come in at Arsenal and maintain their challenge? Danny Graham, of course.
Adster Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Who in January was available with enough real quality to come in at Arsenal and maintain their challenge? Was.
Haydos Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 If only Rosicky hadn't had all his injury problems over the years Could have been world class.
Vacamion Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Is it me or is it the case that young Ince, the media darling, has hardly pulled up trees in this evening's game? I know Palace are playing Manchester Utd today, so a different level, but he doesn't look "all that" in this game. Of course, it's a bit of a step up from skipping round the defences of Huddersfield and Yeovil, but he has looked ordinary this evening.

It's just because his dad is Paul Ince.
Guest ttfn Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 He never has looked all that, not even in the Championship. It's just because his dad is Paul Ince. He scored on his Premier League debut last week, give him a break.
Guest Bilo Posted 23 February 2014 Posted 23 February 2014 What will happen with Cardiff if they go down? I can see there being a significant backlash against Vincent Tan given the shenanigans with the manager this season and the red shirts that are still so unpopular. Could there be another Venky's type situation?
Stadt Posted 23 February 2014 Posted 23 February 2014 Ole will sort them out I think, the fans don't seem to be bothered about Tan and what he does.
