Bluetintedspecs Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Nuge is a fine payer and brings a lot to the team, however, if we are looking at contract renewal it is a buyers market now with FFP and I wouldn't be offering him a long term contract or silly money if I was the financial man at the club.
Charl91 Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Someone posting with a modicum of common sense. Wow. Well done. As a season ticket holder, I find the subject bizarre. Yes nuge misses some sitters. Dont they all? But to slate a guy who has 10 before dec 1st is laughable. Yes 6 penos. But they dont count?? Next people will be saying chalk off knockys 30yrd direct screamers cos he didnt earn the foul. Come on everyone. We are top of the league by 3 and dave is a big part of that. Also a top guy off pitch too. And no im not his dad. But am a dad thats witness to his off field generosity It's easy to have "10 goals before Christmas" if you've had the chance to take 7 penalties. Kasper could be on 7 goals if he had taken them, doesn't make him a great striker either ffs.

Konch takes the best penalty in the club, I'd rather he took them so people could see nugent for what he is this year, shit and clueless.
ADK Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Hope he proves me wrong next game.

Fox92 Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 How many of you posted you would like Murray here after his amount of goals for Palace last season? How many penalties did he score last season? Not sure of the stats, but a hell of a lot. Get off Nugent's back ffs, he has 9 other players alongside him. (See my post in the 'here are my thoughts' thread).
Strokes Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Cityfanlee has a nugent voodoo doll and smears it with excrement before a match.

Murray scored 30 goals, with 8 of them being penalties. If Nugent scored 24 goals from open play, I'd be over the moon. As it stands, he's not even going to score half of that from open play. Let's break down the statistics another way. 27% of Murrays goals were from the penalty spot. In contrast, 60% of Nugent's goals this season have been from the spot. It's not comparable at all. Yes, Nugent does have 9 other players around him. If they play badly, I'll criticise them too. If defenders are defending badly over a long time, then they deserve to be questioned. Nugent is a striker. If he's not scoring, or performing well, then another player deserves a chance in his place.

I'm not really bothered if Nugent plays now or not, he'll score 30 goals and people will look for faults. He does need a break and hopefully Wood will come in and bang them in for fun.

Corky Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Basically this, but you seem ( admirably) reluctant to actually criticise. Nugent was awful today. I don't doubt he was, and I've said when I've seen he's played poorly, I do believe that Wood should come in and see how he links up with Vardy. Personally, I think Nugent gets a raw deal at times, he's taken penalties very well this season (bar one) and people are playing that down! I'm no Nugent fanboy who can't see anything wrong with him, just believe that he is an important member of the squad and we'd be mad to throw him aside completely. He needs a kick up the backside to get consistency and improve his all-round game.
Monsell1976 Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 It's not all about nugent, yes he's not in great form, but we have little creativity in the side, and supply to the front pair isn't great, but when they do get chances both nugent and vardy are wasteful. Nugent gets most of the stick as he is seen as the experienced striker, but he's in a partnership with vardy, and nobody seems to moan how wasteful he is, and let's defend him by saying he's come up from the conference. The only difference between the two is, is that vardy has a better work rate, but still isn't good enough as a striker in this division, I think vardy would be better out wide creating chances, and get a better finisher up front.

But Pearson seems to think that the way to get the best out of him is to "show confidence" in him by picking him every week. This is fine when Nugent is working hard and helping Vardy press defenders but for the best part of this season he's been strutting about like Juan Roman Riquelme.
Corky Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 I agree that his work-rate is lacking at the moment, which is unusual for Nugent. But as Monsell says, Vardy is guilty of being wasteful too, and if this had been last season, Vardy would probably be the subject of the criticism. I really thought after Ipswich that Nugent would kick on but it hasn't happened.

Charl91 Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Terrible maths... Which bit is terrible maths? As far as I know, Nugent has 10 goals, 6 which are penalties. That's 60%.

Charl91 Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 Really? I mean you must have checked your post and still not spotted it? Ok, 22, not 24. Doesn't really change the point I was making though.
sylofox Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 On this point I will ignore nuge's penalties I'll look at open play goals. Yes he has not scored enough niether has Vardy. Why do we just have a thread about Nuge and not 2 or a joint one. I'm no trying to justify Nuge niether have scored enough. Yes vardy is a lot better player than last year but has not scored enough either. In the Boro match thread NP was being slated for picking him before kick off. Since that game no one has called Vardy. Yes he puts in a good shift and praps more so than Nuge but his goal tally is no better. They have both wasted a lot of chances so why slate just Nuge.

Open a topic on vardy if you want ? this is about nugent and at the mo he is (as an individual player) playing woefully and is weak as piss . a smoke screen called vardy wont change that .
Stadt Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 Nugent was invisible yesterday, it's like it's a chore to him - he's not even smiling.
