Matt Posted 14 April 2015 Posted 14 April 2015 Out of interest was that a perception or from experience. I went to anfield twice under O'Neil and was always underwhelmed. Perception.
Alf Bentley Posted 14 April 2015 Posted 14 April 2015 I'm sure it won't happen, but wouldn't it be hilarious if Man City missed out on a Champions League spot for next season? Particularly if Southampton took their place... Only 4pts ahead of Liverpool and 5pts ahead of Southampton now. I wonder how many of their megabucks stars would hang around for a season in the Europa League?
foxfanazer Posted 14 April 2015 Posted 14 April 2015 It's really shaping up to be the tightest relegation battle ever. Potentially 3 of 5 teams could go down on the last day! Madness!

I wonder how many of their megabucks stars would hang around for a season in the Europa League? Could be a blessing in disguise, almost akin to our relegation to L1. They are an absolute joke of a "champion." If it wasn't for Blackburn in 95/96 they'd easily be the worst defending champion of the PL era. Their aging team need dismantling and putting back as a youthful, hungry unit. I know no UCL won't help that, with finance and ambition etc, but they have the structure and network in place now to breed younger players they've poached from the best academies in Europe. They've no excuse not to bring youth through. Less £40m on Mangala, no more Yaya, no more Navas, no more Clichy, Dzeko, Fernando, even Bony if you wanted to etc, rip the core out of that team and replace it. Ditch Pellegrini and build with a young manager who has a long term ideology, whether that's Vieria I don't know. Either that or sit on your arse waiting in hope Guardiola leaves Bayern in 12-18 months, nab him to set you up for a couple of years.

Same with the top of the Championship. I guess there's really not a lot of difference between the top 6/7 of the Championship and the bottom 6/7 of the PL

Gerard Posted 14 April 2015 Posted 14 April 2015 Mad as it sounds, Newcastle are in awful form and have to play us, West Brom and QPR before the end of the season. If the unthinkable happens and all three of us win those games, and Burnley and Hull somehow develop a purple patch as well, they could face a serious risk of relegation. One more point and they're fine mind you. ... nah, I'm talking out of my arse. West Brom, on the other hand, are seriously in trouble with their run-in. It's hard to see Newcastle or West Brom getting relegated for me. I can't see three of the bottom five overtaking the points total they have now. If we can stay up this season it really bodes well for next season. With three promoted clubs coming up there will still be plenty of Premiership dross who survives in this league just because only three clubs can get relegated.
Guest Posted 14 April 2015 Posted 14 April 2015 Same with the top of the Championship. I guess there's really not a lot of difference between the top 6/7 of the Championship and the bottom 6/7 of the PL So why did we kill them all so easily last season? Maybe there is a bigger difference between the crap in the Prem and the great in the Champ than we imagined.
MC Prussian Posted 14 April 2015 Posted 14 April 2015 Manchester United are rumoured to pay Van Persie £5m for him to leave the club at the end of the season. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3035296/Robin-van-Persie-set-offered-5million-leave-Manchester-United-Juventus-Inter-Milan-target-cut-price-striker.html
Donut Posted 14 April 2015 Posted 14 April 2015 So why did we kill them all so easily last season? Maybe there is a bigger difference between the crap in the Prem and the great in the Champ than we imagined. I believe this is correct. I think because certain teams tend to be towards the bottom end of the Premier League on a regular basis, they are deemed as "crap" but their assessment doesnt take into account the quality differences between the two leagues. If one of the bottom teams went into the championship with exactly the same team they have now (which never happens, all of the better players leave) id be confident they would be pushing for promotion.
Stadt Posted 16 April 2015 Posted 16 April 2015 How would you feel knowing that you're only at the interview because you have to be. Literally a token black guy.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 16 April 2015 Posted 16 April 2015 Exactly. Sure that's more offensive to black people!
tom27111 Posted 16 April 2015 Posted 16 April 2015 How would you feel knowing that you're only at the interview because you have to be. Literally a token black guy. I actually look at it from the opposite point of view. You're guaranteed an interview, just because you aren't white? Why should you be interviewed on the colour of your skin? It's more racist towards white people. Football clubs are now multi million pound businesses, regardless of your race, you get the job on merit. John Barnes hasn't had another job because he's s**t. Chris Powell finds work because he's done relatively good jobs where he's been. Hasselbaink has started at the bottom, in a bid to build a reputation, if he carries on as he has done, he'll be a sought after manager. Paul Ince saved Macclesfield from relegation, then thought he was ready for the big time. He wasn't. Look at how some white managers careers have progressed: Our very own Peter Taylor, John Gregory, Phil Brown, Paul Sturrock, Paul Jewell, Ian Dowie......I could go on. Just because you've been in the Premier League, it doesn't mean you always will be, careers have ups and downs Whatever your ethnicity, you'll get the job you deserve. No doubt Chris Ramsey won't be at QPR next season, he'll probably go back to being an assistant and this whole saga will be bought up again because that's one less black manager. If he wants to be number 1, drop down a couple of leagues. Terry Connor was a similar situation a few years ago at Wolves. It's a horrible cliche, but it really is political correctness gone mad.
Dan Posted 16 April 2015 Posted 16 April 2015 Just proves we still have an absolutely bollockless FA. Good luck boycotting 2022 we'll probably send them some money over to help them with their preparation. I just feel sorry for those who are going to be victims of counter-racism to this. Accusations of people being where they are because of their race will be rife, I've no doubt.
Haydos Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 Surely this is a grass roots issue if there is one at all. It's got to be about opportunities and at the top level, no chance clubs are turning down managers because of their skin colour.
Guest MattP Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 Rich, old, middle class white guy in let's do somethingI think is nice but is actually patronising to black people to prove I'm not racist shock. Standard. Dyke really is a moron isn't he, what the hell is he doing in charge of the FA?
purpleronnie Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 Rich, old, middle class white guy in let's do somethingI think is nice but is actually patronising to black people to prove I'm not racist shock. Standard. Dyke really is a moron isn't he, what the hell is he doing in charge of the FA? He certainly is, but he's perfect for the F.A he has no history of involvement in football. so naturally the FA made him chairman.
deejdeej Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 I was looking at applying for the police a few years back. Leicestershire constabulary website said they were taking applicants on particularly those of ethnic minorities... so if you're the best person for the job you probably wouldn't get it as you're Caucasian. No doubt any chairman that has fired a black man has faced accusations of racism.
Gerard Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 Does anyone have an example were a better qualified black man didn't get the job over a lesser qualified white man? It's possible people at football clubs have a perception that a black man is less intelligent than a white man but football is a meritocracy if ever there was one. I'd find it hard to believe anyone would give the job to a white man over a black man who thought they could do the job better. Just like managers wouldn't sign Matty James over Paul Pogba if they were offered both for the same money and contract. John Barnes can have no complaints for racism after his performance with Celtic then Tranmere. After his Tranmere performance he should expect to get a job at a lower level than them. Ruud Gullit always came across as knowledgeable and intelligent and walked into a massive job like Chelsea. If there is any form of racism I would guess it lies with perception but if you're a big enough name you will get a job and after that I'm sure you're judged on performance. I can't think of anyone who is black in the lower leagues who is doing a great job but is constantly overlooked for bigger jobs.
RowlattsFox Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 We will see an increase in black managers in the next 10 years I'd imagine. There are many more black players now do naturally more will go into management. I don't notice too many black managers in Spain? Italy? Germany? So it's hardly a British problem, is a big deal made of it in other countries?
Finnegan Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 If I was black I'd be furious at the idea of the Rooney rule. It's such a ****ing awful idea. Who wants to be a token vote? Firm believe that success breeds success in management and nobody is entitled to a top job just because they were an okay player. Work and you'll get.
Carl the Llama Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 What I don't get about the Rooney rule is he's a white guy and he's not even trying to become a manager yet.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 17 April 2015 Posted 17 April 2015 What I don't get about the Rooney rule is he's a white guy and he's not even trying to become a manager yet. He makes the rules He makes the ruuuules Wayne Rooney He makes the rules
The Doctor Posted 18 April 2015 Posted 18 April 2015 Watching MOTD knowing the results makes it a wee bit boring... What has happened to Drogba anyway - looks a shadow of his former self. Was world-class 09-12.
