Fosse93 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Good points but Lescott would be an improvement on what we currently have at the back. Both Lescott and Barry would be improvements on what we CURRENTLY have but I think Moore and James both have potential to be just as good, if not better than both of these players if developed correctly. Left back, CAM, and upfront is where we need to strengthen. Yes, Barry and Lescott would be nice but we don't necessarily need to strengthen in those areas, we'll be fine without them IMO If we signed one, or both of them i'd have mixed emotions, nevertheless it is exciting to be linked with 2 so called 'big names'
Steven Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 There's no doubting Barry is an outstanding player and could be a good bit of business for free, I think we need a CAM more than a CDM though. Jordan Mutch from Cardiff would be ideal, but apparently he's off Sunderland now - at 1.5 million he is a steal Same goes for Lescott, great player but we already have 4 CB's Cardiff Chairman is denying this.
sylofox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 No, that's the lol lol comment on here ever, whatever that means. Cos all James and Drinkwater do is kick it against a brick wall, right? There are plenty of experienced players in the world, it doesn't mean they're any good. If you're good it's because you're good not because you've been playing for ages. You can have the best coaches in the world but if you're Junior Lewis you're always going to be Junior Lewis. If he's starting instead of one of those two at the end of the season it means one of them is struggling and instead we have an ageing, slow player in their place who won't last many years. It means we've got a short term fix whilst potential is going unfulfilled. That would be a bad thing. The best case scenario is that our young players continue to develop and nail down a place in the side. If they are being replaced by ageing has-beens (with all due respect to Barry) it means we are not progressing, that they are not progressing as players and that we are doing something wrong. Your second last sentence is funny since nobody was sniffing around Barry as a centre mid in his early 20s, up until about 5 years ago he was a left back. Who said thats what they did. Why do you think we send you players out to L1 and L2 clubs and why did prem clubs loan us players?
Rusko187 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 This would be a fantastic signing, might have to whip my wang out tonight If we could get Lescott than that would be the start of a fairly solid spine to the team. It's on twitter he's been offered £60k a week, just hope there are release clauses in case of relegation. It is a real statement of intent to where we want to go if this comes off! Think he will be a good mix for our team and it would be good to get the premiership experience in the team.
Fosse93 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Cardiff Chairman is denying this. Didn't know that, interesting! I'd still like us to go for him
Rusko187 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Didn't know that, interesting! I'd still like us to go for him I could see either Tony K or Mahrez being switched to a CAM. Both have the technical ability and you often see them roam into that position. Do like Mutch though and he would be a quality signing.

leftbackinthechangingroom Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 How reliable are the guys that claim to be itk on here? Just genuinely curious as if this is true it will be a rsal statement of intent and I think it will put the teams around us on notice. Anyone know if lescott and barry still have places/family in the midlands as that could be a massive factor in their decisions

Hack Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 I may be naive but I believe Matty James can go on to be better than Gareth Barry. The guy's 22 and yet plays with the calmness of someone 10 years older. His stats are also incredible; he's lost 1 league game all season. He had a nasty injury a couple of years back, the recovery was long - If he had not picked up the injury, Manchester United would have probably tried a little bit harder to keep him Gareth Barry would be a great acquisition but I'm unsure as to how he would fit into the side. The obvious option would be to play a 3 man midfield with Barry sitting, but as someone has already mentioned, this may clash with James and even Drinkwater. Then there's the possibility of dropping James or Drinkwater. To perfectly honest, they'd be my first two names on the team sheet. Dropping them for anyone seems unimaginable to me! Barry would be on a substantial salary and yet I somehow think that by the end of season he would be regarded as 3rd best midfielder. I know he's seen as a short-term option; a player to help us through the first couple of seasons. I just wonder whether it's really necessary... If we sign Barry, it is not a statement on James's ability. Gareth Barry should be in the England squad in Brazil. Matt James has not made that step up yet. Barry could help him do that. Also Matt does not yet have the PL experience also. We should have faith in the skill and quality of most of our young players, but we do need to strengthen our squad and Barry is the perfect type of player to add skill and experience.
Guest Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 If this happened I'd be just sooooooo happy! Matty James and Drinkwater both have huge potential and with somebody like Barry around to give them further grounding it can only help their development. Besides, it would give us flexibility and allow us to play a five man defensive midfield formation and also people do need to realise that we can swap players around. We don't have to play Barry every game. I'll just be stunned if this comes off. That Twitter account is actually a decent one as well.....

But looking at that it says to me he got it in 2011 follows one person has 2500 followers and has not tweeted yet. But has been back on an account he don't use to change his details saying he's in Leicester City. Suggests to me it's bollox and would expect him to have more followers. Not saying your wrong just how I read it.

Barry has a home and family in the midlands aswell. Would be a great signing if we could get him.

st albans fox Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 I've had feelings before. Normally i get slapped round the face.
Dickov22 Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Barry would be a class signing. Can see us needing to play with a midfielder protecting the back 4. He'd be brilliant .
Robin JD Popley Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 I wouldn't get too down yet everyone re that photo posted this morning. If you go through all the threads last night on this topic, you will note it was some of our own 'ITKs' who said they were aware talks were ongoing or things were being wrapped up nicely and we all got that bit more happy when this Manc chap piped up. To give him (theRealFbloke) his dues, too, he seems to have a lot of respect from fellow City fans and I also noted a lot of the Sky team follow him too so he may know a bit more than he is letting on. To have that type of 'feeling' he must know a little bit to give him that impression. I think there is still a good chance this may happen as Nigel has a big vision that GB might want to be a part of.
Nick Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 My GGM, that would be two marquee signings of fantastic proportions.
Fox Ulike Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 But Barry isn't a 'defensive' midfielder. So much of what he does about finding the pass that turns defence into attack as well as retaining possession. Will Hughes? He doesn't even start for Derby every week. I'd take Thorne over Hughes any day of the week. Barry is the textbook Defensive Midfielder. If you look in the Dictionary under ‘Defensive Midfielder’ there’s probably a picture of Gareth Barry there by way of illustration. He scored 6 goals in 132 league appearances for Man City. The fact that he can pass the ball and retain possession is sort of a given for a Prem footballer - not something to praise them for. Gareth Barry runs in slow motion. Incidentally, he also has one of the hugest arses I've ever seen on a professional footballer. Unbelievable. Matty James is also fairly slow. If we play the two of them together then opposition managers will just put two speedy players up against them and we're exposed due to our lack of pace. We should get a few 0-0s, but we will also lose a lot of games 0-1 due to our lack of attacking intent. Will Hughes played 48 times for Derby last season so not sure where you have gotten your impression of him from. He’s 19 and already is approaching 100 career appearances for Derby. When George Thorne was 19 he was loaned out to Peterborough. He played 9 times for Derby last season and from that you've deduced he's a better prospect than Will Hughes? UNBELIEVABLE GEOFF!!
