XLM Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Barry is the textbook Defensive Midfielder. If you look in the Dictionary under ‘Defensive Midfielder’ there’s probably a picture of Gareth Barry there by way of illustration. He scored 6 goals in 132 league appearances for Man City. The fact that he can pass the ball and retain possession is sort of a given for a Prem footballer - not something to praise them for. Gareth Barry runs in slow motion. Incidentally, he also has one of the hugest arses I've ever seen on a professional footballer. Unbelievable. Matty James is also fairly slow. If we play the two of them together then opposition managers will just put two speedy players up against them and we're exposed due to our lack of pace. We should get a few 0-0s, but we will also lose a lot of games 0-1 due to our lack of attacking intent. Will Hughes played 48 times for Derby last season so not sure where you have gotten your impression of him from. He’s 19 and already is approaching 100 career appearances for Derby. When George Thorne was 19 he was loaned out to Peterborough. He played 9 times for Derby last season and from that you've deduced he's a better prospect than Will Hughes? UNBELIEVABLE GEOFF!! Gareth Barry was so useful for Everton last season because of his ability to change the tempo of the game. Think of him as a shit Paul Scholes. Yes he's not physically that impressive but his knowledge of the game is immaculate and certainly shows against the lesser teams in the league. He was fantastic at changing the pace in which Everton played, dictating whether they could hold on to a lead or chase a goal. Drinkwater and James are good at keeping the ball moving, and linking up play. To me Barry remains one of the most underrated English footballers playing. If Henderson hadn't been fantastic for title contenders this year Barry would have been on the plane I think.

If Henderson hadn't been fantastic for title contenders this year Barry would have been on the plane I think. I just think of him as an old version of Matty James. I’m not saying Barry isn’t a good player. He is. What I’m saying is that if we sign him and play a 3-man midfield of Barry/James/Drinky then the following will happen: We’ll have lots of possession but pose very little threat with it Vardy will be isolated and starved of service Drinky will look lost and out-of-form We’ll get plenty of crosses in the box but no-one will be on the end of them Our defence will get caught out by lots of runners from Midfield. But in amongst all this, Barry will be a shining light and will look like our best player! The reason being that the whole shape of the team has been modified to fit him in. Anyway that’s my Mystic Meg for today. If I’m wrong I’ll be glad to admit it. If I’m right I’ll be re-posting this thread for ever more.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Ok I have to ask. Why would u play James and Barry in a three man midfield ? Or any formation TBF
wakeyfox01 Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 James is more of a box to box midfielder than a holding player so don't see why he couldn't play with Barry and Drinky. At Huddersfield when Drinky wasn't playing he completely ran the game and drove the team forward the way Drinky normally would.
Dickov22 Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Can't believe people don't want the player who most Everton fans believe was their best player last season. Please get him Nigel.
Guest Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Can't believe people don't want the player who most Everton fans believe was their best player last season. The reason for this is simple. An element of our support are f****** idiots.
Callabinho Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 You can never have too much experience, if you're comparing this to Micky Adams' idea of experience then stop it. Barry is an excellent midfielder who's premier league experience will be a major asset to any team, you'll appreciate this when he eventually joins Everton, however if IF Nigel and the gang can pull this off it could well be the difference between having a mediocre season - brilliant season.
GingerrrFox Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Can't believe some of the shite written in here. Experience counts for nothing? Jesus Christ.
Tielemans63 Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Can't believe people are taking this thread seriously.
Nick Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 The idea that Gareth Barry would come here is verging on madness. The notion that we wouldn't want to accommodate him as he would make our team worse is certifiable.

Hughes looks massively lightweight at times to me, yes he's got talent. But Statting 11 for us in the Prem? Don't think so. I get annoyed with this 'defensive midfielder' tag and it always reeks of too many computer games. He has the experience and ability to change and control the pace of games. That isn't being defensive. He created much of what Everton did offensively by getting the ball quickly to attacking players from defensive positions. I think you need to consider what you feel we need in our current squad. Pace? Or strength, vision and experience? Unbelievable? Hmmm....

Monsell1976 Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 If it's true would take him without a shadow of doubt, but I would imagine him going to a established premier league side, because he's in the twilight of his career, but stranger things have happened.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 If Gareth Bareth signs for LCFC I'm going to lob seamen from 30 yards on all of you

shade Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Its only Gareth Barry it really isn't as unlikely as some are making out, the way some fans are going on you'd think it would be more likely that Madeline McCann would turn up on Flight MH370 to watch us next season meh.
