Number 6 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 He'd be a great signing. Absolute class. Think we may pack the midfield at time and a 3 of Barry, James and Drinkwater would be great. Can understand the worry about James getting game time but he'll still be a big part of our plans surely, we also have seen him have injury spells so alternatives are good.
Happy Fox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Sounds promising Lescott and Barry would be f**king superb. Fox Ulike Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Personally I see Barry more of a ball-winner than a playmaker that pulls the strings. James and Barry in a midfield, with Drinkwater more advanced is something I wouldn't mind seeing. I agree that's not totally his game but I've seen enough evidence of him being good enough in the final third for him to adapt to that and be successful in the Prem. Got a decent goal haul this year and that was playing in a two-man midfield. If we were to sign Barry and another attacking midfielder (Thorgan Hazard/Nick Powell would be ideal imo) then that would leave us 5 players (James, Drinkwater, Barry, King and new player) competing for 3 midfield spots which is healthy competition I think. Plus the fact Barrys experience would be invaluable for James and Drinkwater to learn off for a couple of years. He was an integral part off the 2nd or 3rd best team to watch in the Prem last year. If we were to play Knockaert and Mahrez as the wide players with Vardy up top I think that would work against the lesser teams. Vardy dragging the defenders out of position, with those 3 behind moving into the space. We're hardly a crossing team with those two playing anyway. With Albrighton being a better crosser of the ball than those two and the imminent arrival of a 'bigger' striker that gives a different options if our initial gameplan isn't working. I agree with you that it would give us a selection headache but thats definitely not a bad thing to have in a long season, where injuries are bound to play a part. Rather have a selection of quality as well Just out of interest, its obvious we need another midfielder at least, what 'type' would you want us to buy? Or just stick to James, Drinky, King and Hammond. Well OK, but you''re asking the best Midfielder in the Championship last season to play in the space usually occupied by David Nugent. Do you really think that's a good idea? And just to accommodate a big name signing. You can't just lump the five midfielders together and think that you can just pick any three and it will work. Our midfielders all have different strenghts and weaknesses, and so you have to pick 3 players that work together. My point is simply that Barry and James are similar players, and have the same strengths, and same weaknesses. For that reason I don't think that they would form a good partnership. If i had to buy a midfielder it would be someone like Will Hughes - mainly because i can see him complimenting Drinkwater and James rather than changing our whole midfield set up. The only reason Barry is being talked about is because he's available, not because we urgently need another defensive midfielder.
CollinsLCFC Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Bazzy Bush is a fox I can see this headlining the Mercury..
Micky Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Can someone pop into morrisons for confirmation Gareth only shops at Waitrose.
Brooksy Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Clicked on this and thought it said Gareth Bale for a second there. Maybe in a few years time eh?

Callabinho Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Can someone pop into morrisons for confirmation Just seen him at the self serve, his durex set the bagging alert off.
Fosse93 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 There's no doubting Barry is an outstanding player and could be a good bit of business for free, I think we need a CAM more than a CDM though. Jordan Mutch from Cardiff would be ideal, but apparently he's off Sunderland now - at 1.5 million he is a steal Same goes for Lescott, great player but we already have 4 CB's

So much of what he does about finding the pass that turns defence into attack as well as retaining possession. Will Hughes? He doesn't even start for Derby every week. I'd take Thorne over Hughes any day of the week.
CollinsLCFC Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Mutch would be a decent signing, very impressive at Cardiff. Lescott has been linked with the MLS and would not suprise me if he goes.
Kitchandro Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 That has to be the lol lol comment on here ever. Experience is one of the reasons he is a good player. If he kicked a ball against a wall for 10 years he would never get any better. All players learn from coaches each other and match experience. No, that's the lol lol comment on here ever, whatever that means. Cos all James and Drinkwater do is kick it against a brick wall, right? There are plenty of experienced players in the world, it doesn't mean they're any good. If you're good it's because you're good not because you've been playing for ages. You can have the best coaches in the world but if you're Junior Lewis you're always going to be Junior Lewis. If he is starting infront at the end of the season (unless for injuries) that say's to me it was right to bring him in. Yes DD n James had a great season but they have not played in the prem. And know we don't have time for them to find there legs the whole team has to hit the ground running. If not we go down and the owners don't want that no club does thats why they buy the finished product. Also If DD n James where as good as some make out we would have had prem clubs sniffing and making bids. Whatever anyone says the prem is a different league and as good as we was last season that team would not last in the prem. If he's starting instead of one of those two at the end of the season it means one of them is struggling and instead we have an ageing, slow player in their place who won't last many years. It means we've got a short term fix whilst potential is going unfulfilled. That would be a bad thing. The best case scenario is that our young players continue to develop and nail down a place in the side. If they are being replaced by ageing has-beens (with all due respect to Barry) it means we are not progressing, that they are not progressing as players and that we are doing something wrong. Your second last sentence is funny since nobody was sniffing around Barry as a centre mid in his early 20s, up until about 5 years ago he was a left back.

Stevosevic Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 This would be some signing. Barry, a CB and a striker would do me.
