James Pearson, better than we thought?

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen this thread before, so I thought I would bring it to attention. Obviously James Pearson hit an absolute cracker at MK Dons. IMO he has looked quite decent this preseason, and could prove to be great backup for RDL(he is a RB? or am I mistaken?). So far the future of City looks pretty bright, thoughts?

•Please note this pertains to his future ability as stated above, and not as him being a direct back up•

Sorry but theres no way a player who has played 3 games for Oldham is good enough to be a prem back up player. Friendlies aren't the same. How did Sanago score that hat trik the other day.

How have you seen enough of him this pre-season to judge his overall performances as decent if you live in America? And wasn't everybody complaining about him being a liability a few matches ago?

Livestreams... And not sure, thus why I posted this thread, didnt know if he was talked about.

I think he has shown he has more talent than just to dismiss him as Pearson's son and he is in the squad for purely nepotistic reasons...

...but he needs serious loan time before we even consider throwing him in to the first team and that goes for all the other academy products that have looked promising. I do think it was telling the way the players reacted to his goal, seems like a popular member of the squad rather than the manager's son.

It's called the "Ben Marshall affect", where by long distance goals mask the all round failings of the player.

Na Na Na Na Na Na James Pearson

Cracking goal but that don't make him a first team player or the answer to RDL being out long term.

Why is this in transfer talk?

I think he's got it harder than the other players. Nige will make him work for it. I think the U21 games this season will be more fruitful than sending them off on loan to L1 and L2 clubs.

They're trying to make the U21 competition more competitive, to emulate first team action.

Give him some time out on loan in a League One team (maybe even one level higher) and let's have this discussion again after half a year or twelve months.

Not sure. I never said he was as good as/worse than/better than I thought, because I hadn't ever seen him play. Still haven't seen him play. There's always a stigma attached though when it's the manager's son, whoever it is, he still could be a decent player despite being related though.

How did I know there was going to be a thread about James Pearson being under rated the minute I saw that goal.

From little I've seen of him he looks ropey. Thats a good strike granted, quite why MK Dons gave him 30 minutes to get it down and line it up though I'm rather unsure, and we shouldn't be picking right backs based on their ability to score 20 yard half volleys anyway.

Take it with a pinch of salt mate, he's someone who hasn't really been discussed as far as I'm aware so not too sure what people's problem is.

It'll probably end up the goal of the guy's lifetime and nothing less for the fact that - as Manwell says - MK's defenders gave him time in abundance to hit it without any kind of challenge.

I don't blame his dad for giving his son an opportunity and am in agreement with him in suggesting the lad will need another year before having any chance of emerging as a Premiership candidate.

Let him get on with it and enjoy the goal as an example of what it feels like to stand in the limelight for a moment, however limited in big picture importance, and how worthwhile it'll be to climb all the hills and cross all the bridges en route to decent level first team football and perhaps even the Premiership.

It might also make him take the idea of scoring goals even more seriously. Gareth Bale made it an art form but plenty of others have made it an important weapon in theoir armoury. In a contest between two decent defensive full-backs - the one who scores or makes goals will be preferred. Sounds obvious of course but there are plenty who don't shoot and don't show many signs of wanting to learn or to take that kind of responsibility.

In these days of swift covering and packed defences the ability to score from all over the pitch is paramount.

It would be odd to send him to a league one club if the plan is for him to be ready for the prem next seas, as thats what i take from Pearson saying its too much of a step up to make the prem this year for him.

Lowly champ team!

Dear me, one worldie strike doesn't make him worthy of the first team.

Loan him out like we will probably do with Hopper & Blyth.

Get a new RB in, to give De Laet stiff competition.
