Yes, if you lose your first match you go into the "losers" bracket to play another defeated team. If you lose a 2nd time you're out.

Some teams received a bye and others have to play in the opening round.

Last tournament I failed to get out of a group with Liverpool, Besiktas and PSV with Bayern Munich so I wouldn't get too worried.
