purpleronnie Posted 23 April 2016 Posted 23 April 2016 Both Chelsea and Southampton scoring 4 each. Both have to play Spurs so good for the confidence and momentum. Newcastle got a point keeping them in with a chance of staying up and looking likely to need points on the last day against Spurs. Newcastle result is good because it will likely give them something to play for against Spurs. Chelsea result is good because it shows Chelsea are still playing to win, which is a good sign before facing Spurs. Blimey sounds like a stretch to me. Chelsea still playing? Of course, and we have to play them at their place, I'm sure they'll want to win the last game at home. I don't think any team simply gives up because there isn't anything to play for, some teams just have bad days, this time last week people were slagging Chelsea off for 'giving up' to man city at home.
SpinneyHillRanger Posted 23 April 2016 Posted 23 April 2016 I have more hope in WBA causing an upset than Chelsea. The fans may want us to win it and maybe even some of the players... But you have to remember this is a team that is full of players out of form or who basically downed tools at the start of the season because they didn't like the manager. They didn't try even then when their fans wanted and expected more. Their manager said just last week that the players were saving themselves for the euros. I hardly see any of them charging into 50/50s with dier, dembele, Ali etc as much as they would not want spurs to win it. It was like before the Stoke game people were saying shawcross wants to beat spurs for huth etc. It might be true but that will to do it for someone else, is not the same. Pulis on the other hand will make sure his players give 100%

stix Posted 23 April 2016 Posted 23 April 2016 Aguero is the best forward in the league but still wouldn't say he's world class. Has too many off days. He's as likely to be completely anonymous as he is to score. Sorry but that's bollocks. Even if you stick Messi, Ronaldo or Neymar in the Prem they wouldn't be bagging the amount of goals they do in La Liga. This league is the toughest in the world to champion. Aguero is the best player in the Prem. Put him back in La Liga and he would be tearing it up the same as the other big boys do.

Not really bollocks. Take out his games against Chelsea and Newcastle this season and he has 12 goals in 23 games. He has way too many off days but if you catch him on his day then he'll rip you a new one.

I think the point I'm making is that the names he's being compared to are playing in a league where he would be on the same level now as them. Stick the big lads from the Spanish league in the Prem and I guarantee they won't be as prolific as they are now. That's all I'm saying. Maybe not complete bollocks but surely you hear me.

Have you watched Stoke recently! Conceded 4 goals in each of their last 3 games, and if ever there was an example of a team strolling through to the end of the season, they are it.
clark Posted 23 April 2016 Posted 23 April 2016 Interesting stat on 5live last night about Tottenham's derby games. Only 6 points of of 15 so far. (Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea) That's a bit misleading that stat though, looking only at the closest rivalries. Look here at the 6 (including Watford) London teams and Spurs are top of the London table, with an average of 2 points per game. Obviously they haven't played Chelsea yet but all the other games are played between the 6 teams. http://www.myfootballfacts.com/London_Derbies_2015-16.html

Arsenal, West Ham and Chelsea are the derby games for Spurs: Crystal Palace being in the same region doesn't make them a derby game, just like Lincoln and Northampton aren't derby games for us despite being East Midlands sides.

Not sure I agree with that. London isn't a region, it's a city and transport links mean you get around it easy and fans are spread out, living and working all over the city. Having Watford in the list is a bit much IMO, but the rest are all true derby matches. If we were in London, anywhere in London, you can't tell me these games wouldn't be derby matches for us with more significance than games played against sides outside of London. Anyway, regardless, it doesn't really matter, they are playing Chelsea and no other London team in the remaining games so that's all that matters. Since Pochetino took over at Spurs, it looks like the three league games have finished 0-0, 5-3 to spurs and 3-0 to chelsea. Hard to predict what will happen in this one really with the season being as it is. Chelsea have the players to beat them but they've been a mess this season.

The fans may be spread out, but it's such a big city, and one with such an international slant to it, that the living in among each other deal doesn't really come into it as much as it would somewhere like Loughborough. Honestly the size of London it might as well be its own region

Super_horns Posted 23 April 2016 Posted 23 April 2016 That will get the Spurs fans and press going speaking about favours being done!
STUHILL Posted 23 April 2016 Posted 23 April 2016 Everyone apart from Spurs want us to win the league. Lets hope that gives the teams playing Spurs that extra bit of fight to upset their momentum. I really hope Chelsea are fired up for that game. Can't help worry though if they still have a CB pairing of Ivanovic and Mikel.. Don't expect WBA to help us at all as they played Thurs and Pulis even said then his players were tired. Southampton could beat anyone on a good day so lets hope they do something for us and even Newcastle may be needing a win or draw to stay in the Prem so that could be a huge motivator for them! Hopefully we won't need any favours of course
Sublime_Coatsworth Posted 24 April 2016 Posted 24 April 2016 Eden Hazard - "We hope Leicester win the league" Wonder if Spurs will ask the FA if they can play someone else next week I LOVED that, had to rewind and watch it a couple times. I hope it really eats into Spurs and their fans. Even if they just THINK Chelsea will go harder on them. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa

Haaaaaaaaaaaaa I really liked that one, too. However, he and his Chelsea teammates need to put their heart where their mouth is. It's all nice on the ears to hear that indirect praise, but the truth is on the pitch and up until lately, Hazard clearly flattered to deceive. And just to say it again - it's in our own hands, we are the creators of our own fortune. Concentrate on the job ahead and the Swansea game. We can't just rely on others to do us a favour.
Sublime_Coatsworth Posted 24 April 2016 Posted 24 April 2016 Its all mind games, but neither Chelsea or it's fans will want to give any quarter to Spurs.
ARM1968 Posted 24 April 2016 Posted 24 April 2016 Might make Spuds dig in even harder. Couple of nice red ones after some naughty challenges.
EastAnglianFox Posted 24 April 2016 Posted 24 April 2016 I think Spurs will be hoping more and more is made of Chelsea wanting us to win the league is built up in the media as it puts the spotlight on them in the last game against us.
