I dont even think he would want to go, you can see he's enjoying himself here. I'm not worried.

Any one of our players would WALK to the Emirates to join Arsenal, lets not kid ourselves here.

You reckon? He'd get a pay rise but he would never get a game. Timing doesn't seem right. No way he overtakes Gibbs or Monreal for LB spot and the LW spot isn't even worth thinking about. Maybe he would go but it would be the wrong decision for his career IMO.

They clearly aren't basing this £5m price tag on his shooting ability this season.

Massive improvement but as I've said elsewhere, young player of the season category this year was less fiercly contested than the Championship winning season.

That said, there is no need to sell and I doubt he'll leave so not up for discussion again probably.

lol he would have 10 plus goals if he learnt to compose himself after a sprint and could shoot acroos the goal instead of rose head and side netting lol.

but im sure hes working on that lol

I've noticed this too, he seems to go near post near enough every time. That can work every now and again to catch the keeper out but across goal is the better option. Not to mention the fact that he misses the target near post every time.

Haha thanks both - I'm glad my sarcasm wasn't wasted. It's not just like occasionally, it's every FRICKING time!

We massively underrate him. You could argue that he was fortunate to win Young Player of Season but how do you explain him winning Players' Player of the season?

At 22yrs old, we have a very, very exciting player on our hands. He's by no means the finished product, but that in itself is reason to be excited. He will only get better!

As for Arsenal, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal are not exactly the greatest in the world. Neither of them have excelled like Chelsea's Azpilicueta or West Ham's Cresswell. Wenger is known for buying younger players and developing them.

This probably is just stupid paper talk but it's not entirely unrealistic. Five million is pathetic though and I don't expect him to go anywhere. We need him more than they do.

I don't massively under-rate him and never have.

He's one player I wouldn't even consider selling.

He got some right grief on here over the season (and I think some are still itching to laugh at him).

But he adds an awful lot to this team and his fellow players knew it.

If the coaching team can manage his concentration ( in some games, he does go walkies, mentally) he is going to be one of our best players for years.

Monreal is ****ing class and Gibbs is nearly as good. Both at least as good as Cresswell by any measure, and quite a bit better overall in my opinion.  Azpilicueta is pretty brilliant although even he doesn't offer as much going forward from LB as either of the Arsenal boys.

Personally thought Jeff was a key player in keeping us up.

Sometimes a slow starter, but his presence on the pitch forces the opposition to be very wary of pressing too high and leaving their right flank exposed to his pace and trickery going forward.

I agree that if their was an award for hitting the side netting, he would win easily!! But no doubt he is being coached on that - next year will see an improvement.

I put schlupp along with Mahrez and Kasper in that they all need another season of consistent and good PL performances under their belts. Move to a big club too quick and they will sit on the bench and stall their careers.

When the time is right you can't really begrudge them their move, if it is to a top club.

5m is a bit stingy tbf. doubt there's any truth in it anyway.

i used to think he was well funny but completely shit at footy (he was if we're being honest) but now he's getting even funnier and even better at footy i'd be gutted if we sell him. left wing back was a masterstroke from nige, too. he doesn't have the positional sense/discipline to play left back and spent most his games in front of konch over-compensating and over-egging his defensive duties. now he's got the freedom of the left hand side of the pitch to do whatever he wants. and he literally does whatever he wants. great guy.

Very much an Arsenal signing as young and alot of potential, however I believe he will still be here at the start of next season :schmike:

Yep, exactly how we know it's just paper talk.  Happens every season:  Hack journos looking to garner a few extra clicks by throwing out semi-feasible stories based on accepted stereotypes. It may well be true that Arsene's keeping an eye on him - most managers probably have an eye on Schlupp right now, doesn't mean any of them are likely believe a bid of 5m would be anywhere near enough to start talks to prise him away from us with 2 years left to run on his contract.  Can't see any other result to that than Pearson taking offence and telling them what 2 things they should do next.

His main attributes are getting the ball/possession back and his runs with the ball; however, his striking technique is a lot to be desired for.

Surprised he didn't want to be a rugby player with his speed and muscular strength, and his high-kicks!

Posted

His agent wants a new contract, hence the 'leak' of a 5m bid.

He will probably be getting a new one anyway.

He only has two years remaining, a regular and a young player. Nige will want players like this on 3/4 deals at point.

Mahrez will also be getting a new one this summer i imagine.

I expect so but any agent worth their salt will leak stories about interested parties just to get a bit more money for their client.

Our go to club used to be Spurs, they'd forever be linked with our mediocre keepers (Weale, Henderson) when contract renewell was mooted. I anticipate more 'interest' from Villareal and Arsenal prior to contract extensions for Schlupp and Mahrez. I imagine WBA or some such like will be 'interested' in Vardy prior to him signing a new deal too.

Posted

We couldn't get a replacement half as good for £5m.

Certainly couldn't let both him and Vardy go as that's our big advantage - speed.

If he wanted to go then it's be at least an 8 figure fee.

Schlupp is a proper athlete with the attributes to be a top player but has a lot to improve upon, namely his end product. It's been difficult for him as he's been a victim of his own versatility. He first got into the side as a centre-forward, then he was developed as a left-back, then this season he started at left mid and has arguably performed his best at left wing back. Next season is massive for him. I think it will define whether he becomes a very good or very average player.

wouldn't begrudge any of out team  a transfer to a team like arsenal.... But its a fair point that this was his first season in the prem and he's young and he'll only get better... another season and he'll be worth a lot more...
