Leicester City Vs Sunderland Post Match Thread 4 - 2

He looks more comfortable in the Premier League and also is benefitting from having better team-mates. In the Championship years when he was accused to being anonymous a lot (and he was at times) he had Wellens, Dyer, Gallagher, Oakley, van Aanholt around him. In the last two years he's had Drinkwater, Mahrez, Albrighton, Schlupp, Cambiasso to link up with.

He's improving as we're improving and it's a real positive.

This.

It was a 352 to start with?

De Leat Huth Morgan

Albrighton King Drinkwater Schlupp

Mahrez

Vardy Okazaki

Switching to a 442

Deleat Huth Morgan Schlupp

Albrighton Kong Drinkwater Schlupp

Vardy Okazaki

Liking the formation, TIKERMAN at his best.

No it wasn't 3-5-2, were you at the same game.?

I put it to bed last season mate. Others keep bringing it up.

We now have that 'type' of player that I thought the club so needed (Kante). I think he'll play against West Ham, for instance.

Difficult to drop anyone after yesterday but agree Kante will be needed at Upton Park

Advocaat said he took him off partly because he was on a yellow and he actually wasn't lol

yeah i saw someone say that. the mail report this morning also slated cattermole saying he was often an idiot in situations like this and it was no surprise he was hauled off on a booking, even though he hadn't been booked.

some people say he's a guarateed yellow card but it appears yesterday half the world, their manager included, literally just assumed he had been booked somewhere along the line so thought what's the point. was funny how bad he looked for 25 minutes though.

I loved Shinji, all non stop effort in their faces from the very start.

Mahrez/Albrighton/Vardy/Jeff fantastic.

Kings and Drinkwater, looking good.

Just feel that Wes and Huth look more composed when Was is with them.

You've really gotta question sunderland as to why they expect to do so well..especially given their squad.

pantillimon, Coates, van aanholt, kaboul, jones, johnson, rodwell are all rejects at this level.....Fletcher and larsson were relegated with wolves and brum....Lens went to ukraine because a top side didnt want him....Defoe was playing in the mls....and cattermole is just a t**t.

Whereas we are actually signing players who are amongst the best at their club (okazaki) or even better....the best in europe at what they do statistics wise (kante).

As has been said, for 50-60 minutes we were sensational. The front 4 - wow. Drinky and Kingy made all the worriers (myself included) look stupid.

I was very impressed with how confident we looked on the ball - a massive change from 3/4 months ago.

However (places tin hat on)...

Some major flaws to work on. We started slowly I thought and the goal was a God-send. We gifted them 2 goals through sheer ineptitude and need to be more clinical. At 3-0 up we had so many chances to go 4/5/6-0 up and didn't take them, almost through over-confidence. The last 20 mins were not enjoyable as a result.

Kante looked useful, Fuchs a good addition. Benny looked a bit iffy to me though. Did some good things but massive lack of positional discipline I thought. Perhaps due to being more used to CB, but I'd rather Wasyl for the time being.

Do we have the players to play 4-4-2 against stronger sides? Not convinced, yet at least.

Anyway, nit picking over a great performance and Mahrez was just on another planet.

There were a couple of moments where we were playing some wonderful one touch stuff, it was so sharp and precise and Sunderland were a bit slow so we looked like Barcalesta.  A joy to watch.

I had no idea Jack Rodwell had declined that muchas a footballer. Him Cattermole and Larsson got bossed by King and Drinkwater who I rate highly but are hardly a formidable middle two partnership

Good question. If Claudio does want to continue with his supposedly preferred 4 - 4 - 2 I'm sure that De Laet will remain his preferred starting choice at R/B. From memory Waz was deployed briefly in the position in the first half against Swansea at home and like Yohan appeared to struggle adapting his positional play. I do like the three big C/B combination of Wasyl, Huth and Morgan and agree that it seems to instil confidence. Reminds me of Walshy, Prior and Elliot. It's unlikely right now he's going to put out a W/B system though or have any conceivable reason to play five across the back..

Fuchs looked so confident, cool and composed when he slotted in at L/B. Reassuring after his slightly dodgy debut pre-season at Lincoln.

Well done Leicester, you outplayed us in every department today, and as some have mentioned, 6, 7 or 8 nil would have been a more fair scoreline. Mahrez was superb, as was Vardy. Forget the fact that you are playing probably the worst premier league team that plays between August and March, you would have beaten most if not all opponents today at KP. Hope you can keep this going and hopefully take some points from our relegation rivals, as clearly you won't be one of our rivals this year. As for us, it looks as bad as ever, and we'll be in hibernation until April 1st, when we will part company with Advocaat and miraculously beat Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal to stop up with a game to go.

Well done.

Cheers for the glittering review. I honestly can't see Dick lasting longer than November, doesn't look like he has the fight in him for a long relegation battle. Can seriously see Pearson ending up as your gaffer.

I don't think we can read too much into the first game of the season.

Some of our play going forward was a joy to watch but equally some of our defending was terrible. They could have been 2-0 up before we scored but thanks to some woeful efforts by them they were not. Once we scored there only looked like one team going to win but still some of our defending was poor. I thought we looked dodgy against any attacks from out wide and we lack a lot of height defending set pieces.

This was largely Pearson's team playing the way we played at the end of last season so I'm not sure what that says about Ranieri if anything.

Overall no complaints. On the whole a great performance and some excellent individual play from certain players but this was a game we needed to win and did. If we are going to stay up again the Sunderlands of this division are teams we really have to beat at home.

Hopefully we can get some extra midfielders in as what we have at the moment won't be enough over the course of a full season.

An encouraging start but plenty to work on defensively.

May I just say that for an hour or so we were simply sublime, I was sat their in my new ST seat (better view than I thought) just blown away that this was more or less the same side I saw Away at Villa 6 months before,

Okazaki was incredible, Vardy did was Vardy does, Albrighton has the best delivery I've seen since Beckham (no exaggeration), Drinky and King looked like Gerrard and Keane and Mahrez had the greatest individual performance I can remember at City,

It's a shame our defence looked a little rusty and Kasper didn't exactly cover himself in glory for the 2nd as the scoreline completely flattered them,

Up the City and roll on the Ammers :scarf:

I'm so glad we didn't sign Younes Kaboul in the end. I knew he was an absolute donkey and I was proved right by this game.

Could it be that we played a somewhat very adventurous 2-5-3 for most parts of the game?

Huth and Morgan were the only two proper defenders, with De Laet (right) and the duo Schlupp/Albrighton (left) supporting our attacks and occasionally having to track back?
