foxes_rule1978 Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Its because how can the referee call it? Its so ambiguous its impossible to call. I fully expected to be called an arse on here for my comment that Simpson appeared (in my eyes having seen a replay after the game) to make a momevement to push the ball away today with his hand. I flick on match of the day and Kevin Kilbane agrees. Yet plenty others say his hand was totally natural. The Huth one hes had the ball kicked at him from a yard away. Everyone is saying that people getting penalties just for it hitting the hand would be ridiculous, and the southampton fan comes on the match thread and says its a stone waller, and a poster agrees with him. When you have something that is THAT unclear, how can it be good for the game? Like I said I explained both incidents the ref got them spot on today, the Simpson one no advantage is gained because the arm is close to the side and if wasn't there ball just hits him on the side instead. Huth one you said it yourself he can't possibly know anything about it, it is called using your discretion, pretty much like handing a red or yellow card in certain situations.

How can you say he got them "spot on"??? this is the whole point, every decision is spot on as its left to your discretion under the laws, which are ambiguous and totally inconsistent. There is a clip of the Mbemba incident vs Man Utd on youtube where Howard Webb, Jermaine Jenas, Rio Ferdinand and Robbie Savage (who was doing the commentary), talk about the decision. Webb and Jenas say penalty and explain why, Ferdinand and Savage say no penalty and explain why. 4 people, 2 giving 2 not, all giving reasons. Webb and Jenas were your referee that day you just got a penalty, Ferdinand and Savage were your referee that day you didnt, over exactly the same incident. And theyve all got the decision "spot on" because of how THEYVE interpreted it. The guy in the Nowrich game must have been deemed to have deliberately been seeking an advantage even though the ball went away from goal v Newcastle, who was exactly the same if not closer to the player than Huth was today, who stops a ball coming into the box with his hand miles away from his body. Beyond daft.

I didn't say because the ref interpreted them as no penalty then it is spot on in every incident but today he was.. However what I'm saying is you can't just have it black and white unfortunately because there would be too many daft penalties, a ball hits arm regardless is free kick or penalty would be dreadful. What we have now is the best way to deal with it you trust the officials who are professional to use there discretion to come up with the right decision.I'm saying the rule is actually as good as it is going to get, without players always attempting to knock the ball into someone's arm constantly, that would just be stupid
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 They wernt penalties either of the ****ers End of ****ing discussion Solved that one

Beyond daft. Only one of those 4 is a trained and experienced referrer though. Regardless of the others experience within the game, only Webb has studied and been trained in the interpretation of the laws of the game. If you had a 4 referees talking and all had different views you may have a point. For what it's worth I feel the referee got all major decisions correct today. I always look at it from the other point of view where Leicester are the team on the other end of the decision, would I have been pissed off if either penalty wasn't given for us? The Simpson one is never in a million years a penalty, his arm is by his side and although there is movement, if it doesn't hit his arm, it hits his chest. We got no advantage bu Simpsons hand being there. The Huth one for me is closer, as his hand is out. I would be jumping up and down for a penalty, but accept there is not a lot he can do about it and move on.
Carl the Llama Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 End of the day, in both cases the arms are in a natural position for the players' balance as they move to get their bodies in the way. Simpson's is no debate at all given the arm's down by his side at point of contact and the ball's going to hit his midriff anyway. Huth's? You see them given sometimes but it's always harsh. It was in its natural position for the movement he was making and then the ball got blasted at it from point blank range, there's not much he can do about that save developing a unique style of running where his arms never leave his side turning the game into the ministry of silly runs. Obviously there's the argument that in this case there was some advantage gained by the way it affected the ball's movement, but to give a free shot at goal for it seems wildly unfair. Pundits and fans alike are just going to have to accept that this is one area of football that can never be perfectly officiated because whatever changes you make to the rules regarding it there will always be obvious scope for decisions that appear wildly unfair.
m4DD0gg Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Motd has been crap for some time, shit pundits who talk out their ass, if it was not for Lineker i would not watch it all. I turn it off when that nob who use to be a hanger on in the chris moyles show is on it. Goals on Sunday is by far the best round up show.

Larry_LCFC Posted 4 April 2016 Author Posted 4 April 2016 Bet MOTD is one of the beebs most popular programmes after the usual shit.
Footballwipe Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 bbc would rather spend their cash on shite like the voice and a 20 man presentation team for the new doomed top gear Except the Voice is disappearing to ITV. The important thing to factor in is that these are entirely different budgets. The Voice and TG comes from the entertainment budget, and at least TG earns something back. I'm a BBC die hard but even I hate the money spent on a poor rival to the X Factor. However, they are entirely different areas of money. MOTD comes from the sport budget (DOES IT REALLY?) which is of course being hacked, slashed and lashed at. MOTD are good for what they do. Don't forget their extent of football is now FA Cup, MOTD and international tournaments every two years as well as radio. You're not going to attract big names and the best pundits for a weekly highlights show, one magazine show and a few live games throughout the season when you have Sky and BT with hundreds of games, highlights shows and seven day a week football to show.
Webbo Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Doesn't Lineker get £2million a year from the BBC? I think when Hansen retired it was said he was on £1million a year. I really doubt the pundits are a low budget option.

Webbo Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Yep, plus £1million a year from Walkers. Not bad for the son of a market trader. Good for him... He also presents the CL for BT. Wish I was a tenner behind him.
LJS Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Match of the Day is fine. It isn't meant to be an analysis show. There isn't the time. I can't be doing with Goals on Sunday. Too much fluff. There's very little proper analysis - Monday Night Football is best for this although I'd love a weekly show dedicated to it - and Kamara and Shephard spend most of the show dribbling over the cock of whichever guests they have on.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 9 April 2016 Posted 9 April 2016 Seeing the West Ham disallowed goal - a key factor in that decision is the Arsenal defender is further away from the vision of the linesman than the West Ham players who have no doubt caught his attention. Now that's not saying the linesman shouldn't have done better, but that's a big factor in these decisions (especially when you're looking at ground level). Wonder if any of the pundits will pick up on this.

Raw Dykes Posted 10 April 2016 Posted 10 April 2016 MOTD2 Extra on BBC2 in 5 minutes (12:15). Guessing it'll be mostly about us and Spurs.
The Doctor Posted 10 April 2016 Posted 10 April 2016 Sherwood isn't that bad as a pundit. Joke of a manager though.
The Doctor Posted 10 April 2016 Posted 10 April 2016 Sinclair and Logan suggesting it's an insult to us to suggest that the title race is still pretty open, that if Man City were 7 clear of Arsenal at this stage we'd be saying done and dusted. Good to hear alternatives to the "they can't because they're leicester" shite that so many are coming out with.
Rincewind Posted 10 April 2016 Posted 10 April 2016 'I'd like to see it for Spurs sake' Why? It would not be fair or does he want to say I told you so.
