Koke Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 To be fair to Welbeck, he 's a useful player to have in the squad. Roy thoguh doesn't have the tactical nous to do anything. You pick your formation based on the players have, not the other way around. Similar to the Sven era where he treated 4-4-2 like a religion and refused to deviate from it despite Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard would be more suited to a 4-3-3. Vardy could score 35 goals this season and Roy would still pick brain dead Walcott ahead of him. And then we have clueless sack of shite like John Cross who is as clueless as the club he shpports manager.
Koke Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I just disagree with the term 'Vardy hype' what hype? He's scored 18 goals! He plays for a smaller club. Jesse Lingard got an England call up after 4 decent games. Hodgson was at one point obsessed with Tom Cleverly.
TJB-fox Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I'm sorry but if Vardy doesn't get in the squad it will probably be the biggest farce the Fa could've possibly done. Been the best English striker(/player?) all season and is just a constant threat. Him and Kane would make a good partnership I think
LanguedocFox Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 John Cross reckons Welbeck will oust Vardy from the squad. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03jx009 Makes eminent sense: Rooney is going to be out for at least the next month Welbeck has played seven minutes of football so far this season Sturridge is so injury-prone that he's lucky to get through 90 minutes intact Vardy has played every League game this season and has scored more goals than the rest of them put together Yeah right. Leave Vardy at home.

Leave Vardy at home. Its because Roy's a coward and he doesn't want to upset the 'big' clubs players, fans or the 'big' club biased media. English football desperately needs someone like Mourinho in charge who would do anything to win regardless of who he upsets.
RonnieTodger Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Wouldn't be surprised if Sturridge and Welbeck get more time than Vardy. Can't have a Leicester player upsetting their precious big club make-up now can we? Glenn Hoddle saying he'd choose Lingard ahead of Drinkwater and while completely different players, can you imagine how much praise Drinkwater would get if he had this kind of season and United? Even if they are 12 points behind us.
Guest Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Since when has Rooney been our security guard since he got injured and needed a PT job. Welbeck comes back and scores one goal and suddenly he is Gods gift? Sounds about right with England. But his goals per minute stat is higher.
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Don't get me wrong, i do value Welbeck and his overall play but he can't possibly go over Vardy now! Never scored more than 9 goals in a prem season even at his best! Vardy scores 19 so far and could end up with around 25 yet may not go to the Euros.. Do me a favour.
Fox92 Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 There's only two players who will feature down the middle and that'll be Kane and Rooney. If players such as Vardy / Walcott / Welbeck are involved then they'll be played out wide.
J.Lisemore Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 More chance of Danny Ings starting down the middle than Vardy.
dylanlegend Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I don't think RH has got to balls not to take Vardy. I think they'd be a big backlash from fans if he doesn't. Especially if he's top scorer
Koke Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 If Sturridge is fit and playing and Welbeck is fit and playing I seriously worry that Vardy won't go. Rooney Kane Welbeck Sturridge I don't think RH will take 5 strikers, especially when he will take other wide forwards like Sterling and Walcott.
Guest ttfn Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Just having a quick look back through some old England squads and in 1986 England went to the World Cup without any Liverpool players despite the fact that they'd won the league that season. Would be very weird if we won the league (or even finished top 4) and nobody went to the Euros but not totally unprecedented.
Corky Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Welbeck's actually got a decent record with England, I don't mind him being selected. Hodgson doesn't really want Vardy there, he'll probably be shoved out of position and if that happens I hope he stays at home. He's a good but limited striker and limiting him further is pointless.
Guest Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I like Welbeck - always said he'd fit in well next to Vardy at the City. There is no way JV isn't at the euros but that doesn't mean he'll get any decent minutes from Roy when there.
dylanlegend Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 To be fair RH did say on MOTD that England have probably got the best options up top as they've had while he is manager as they give you something different. Kane - target man / goalscorer. Vardy - terrier / goalscorer. Rooney - experience. Wel beck and Sturridge are quite similar I would say and it depends what their form is like between now and then, I can see Welbeck or Sturridge not going to be honest

Wel beck and Sturridge are quite similar I would say and it depends what their form is like between now and then, I can see Welbeck or Sturridge not going to be honest He doesn't. He has two relatively un-known and inform strikers and a load of well known, out of form strikers. The only two players that other nations will be scared of are Kane and Vardy. The likes or Rooney, Welbeck, Walcott and Sturridge won't frighten anyone.
Dan Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Who as an England fan would we be more scared of? Mario Gomez or a rapid German forward, top goalscorer in the Bundesliga who has been key behind getting Paderborn top of the league?
Guest Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Who as an England fan would we be more scared of? Mario Gomez or a rapid German forward, top goalscorer in the Bundesliga who has been key behind getting Paderborn top of the league? With our defence we'd be scared of everyone.

Other nations' fans will be more worried about the well known players like Rooney. But you'd bet that teams we're due to play will love the idea of Rooney playing ahead of Vardy.

Parafox Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 I understand why we're all bumming JV with his scoring record here, but to be fair, he doesn't fit the RH style of play. JV scores on the break Hodgson likes to build through midfield. Although this isn't a great style to watch and we would all love JV to be on the pitch, I don't think this will happen

I'd have thought we'll be playing Leicester possession ball.

But you'd bet that teams we're due to play will love the idea of Rooney playing ahead of Vardy. Alright then, Fernando Torres? I'd say Rooney's not far off being in that kind of category now. Problem is it's textbook England to concede to ex Premier League players. How did we know it would be Balotelli & Suarez to score the winners against us in Brazil.
steflcfc Posted 18 February 2016 Posted 18 February 2016 Vardy and Kane will be the ideal strike partnership in the Euros. They both have pace, work hard and both can finish and have good link up play. Attackers are there to score goals and both of these are doing it now! They will pull defences apart. They are the best 2 English strikers in the Prem, one of the best leagues in world football. why shouldn't they be partnering each other! Rooney is having a relatively poor season. If he had scored nearly 20 goals there wouldn't be an argument to make of his exclusion, but now their is! And it's getting to the stage of living off his past achievements, his pace and confidence is shot and isn't the player he was a few years ago. It should be his last competition, take him but as a starter I'm unsure! I want England to take the best and in form players we have to pick from and some of Woys favourites are not cutting it this season. The midfield of sterling Alli Drinky and Walcott has a rediculous amount of pace and age to develop, try them out in the Friendlys
