Tuna Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 If he was put on the spot by a journo and asked about Washford, he could have just said he's a talented boy etc. Suggesting he could be part of the Euro team is extremely concerning, we all know the guy is clueless but this takes it on a new level. I'm this close to packing in England and supporting Wales, at least they pick on merit. If Drinkwater for example was playing for Spurs he'd be on 80 caps by now. M0901 Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 If Vardy doesn't go he might aswell retire. If scoring 25+ goals, winning the premier league, golden boot and pfa player of the year whilst also having a Hollywood blockbuster made after you and your own flavour of crisps is not enough to get you past Fanny Welbeck in the pecking order you're never going to get in. This. I genuinely think Hodgson would take a half fit Ryan Mason as a striker, the man loves his "traditional top 4" group, and Spurs...
RowlattsFox Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 I appreciate the difficulties of an international manager, you make as much plans you can with a squad of players you have used through qualifiers and then someone like Danny Drinkwater has an amazing run of form and the pressure is on the manager to include him rather than a player you know lots about and have already made plans for. However it will be a joke if Wilshere goes, how far away from playing is he? There are only 10 games left FFS. Rashford won't go the finals, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's named in the under 21s for the next round of games and moves to the seniors when everyone pulls out for the friendlies. Dames Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 The whole England team is based around marketing potential. In the minds of the FA they would sell more shirts and seats if they pick players from the big clubs as these are players and teams that people have heard of, you'd get a lot more money selling 60,000 Wilshere shirts as opposed to 30,000 Drinkwater ones and this is the way that the England set up is always going to be. goose2010 Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 According to Wenger this morning Wilshere is still 4 weeks off fitness, so really the max number of games in the league is about 6 or 7? probably take him a couple of weeks to get up to speed to so he will be fit for about 2 weeks of the season? if he gets picked I'm done until Woy does one. Rushford ok if he scores 15 before the end of the season fair enough as he will be on form but anything less he shouldn't even be looked at. Would love Woy to look at Antonio from West Ham could offer us a different dimension

Col city fan Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 I think, if fit, I could almost name Hodgson's starting 11 for France now. It would contain Sturridge, Milner and Wilshere I suggest. Henderson would be kicking about, so would Walcott. And I even think Jagielka would get the nod over Stones.

Jon the Hat Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 The question right now is not whether Drinky is in better form and fitness that Wilshere - he clearly is - but whether he can adapt quickly enough over a few games with the England group to be better for England in the summer. I have some sympathy for Hogson in doubting that. He will take Vardy but not use him properly if at all, because he doesn't want to really. Don't think Theo or Wilshere will make the plane and Sturridge will have his work cut out. As for Stones..what on earth has he done to warrant a place in the squad? He's a liability at times and seems to have bought in to his own early season hype. It would do him good to be left at home in my opinion.
Wortho Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 Wilshire, Wellbeck, Ox and Walcott are certain to go to Euros. Apparently they have the "class" and haven't let Woy down in the past. It almost makes me want England to fail miserably.

Dan LCFC Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 I do miss the days where I was younger and felt actually hurt when England lost. I was in tears twice in Euro 2004, after France and Portugal. Nowadays I just pity everything about them. The mentality about them is absolutely abysmal. If a defeat to Wales is what it will take to wake the FA up then we can only hope for that. Shouldn't ever come to that though. We are no better than we were in Brazil. We're the same sterile, characterless side we were then, and our manager / FA can't see it. What's frustrating is that we do have potentially a much better squad this year than in years gone by, however, our style of play and mentality is completely wrong for the modern competitive game. Dan LCFC Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 The worst thing is even if we produce the mediocrity we're expected to we won't look to progress. We'll stick with Hodgson because "it wasn't a disaster". Every single thing about England reeks of 'playing safe'. How on earth do you expect to win anything with that mindset? We haven't got Spain or Germany's squads. We're an underdog and I don't think Hodgson sees it that way. I think he sees our 10 wins against 'the powerhouses' (as they will now be known) as evidence that we are on a level with Spain, with Italy, with France, with Germany. I've lost a lot of respect for the bloke since he took the job to be honest.
Biggus Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 Geoff Hurst was on BT Fletch and Sav last week. He said that he played his first England game in May 1966 and in June scored the hat trick. Alf Ramsey picked on form not status. There is no reason Drinks, Albrighton and Simpson should not be in the squad.

I know what you mean, McLaren, Crapello and now Roy. At least Shteve made me feel angry and upset when we lost, Crapello made me just not want to even bother watching the team, and Hodgson has gone the same way. We could put out an exciting, attacking pacy team that my not secure a load of functional wins in qualifying, but people would actually want to watch them. We are so predictably boring in that we will bore weaker teams into defeat by just being a bunch of good footballers, and come unstuck against any team with a bit of class as we only have one speed, plod. Manini Posted 4 March 2016 Share Posted 4 March 2016 If it's a case of him going and stumbling about on the wing, playing second fiddle to an underperforming (yet again) Wayne Rooney, then Nahh leave him at home, he'll be better for it confidence wise. I think Drinky going was a long shot, he deserves to go, don't get me wrong, but there's too many other options, he'll get overlooked. Michael Carrick will probably get a f'ing call up
