Samilktray Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 In reply to the other thread, what sports outside of football do you enjoy and why?
Voll Blau Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Bottle kicking. NFL Cricket - Only England Matches Why?
David Guiza Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Ice Hockey - particularly the Boston Bruins Cricket I would count basketball, but I only really enjoy the 4th quarter!
Guest MattP Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Boxing - Closest we can get to a modern day amphitheatre, if you ever get the chance to watch a top fight then do so, the atmosphere is like nothing else and the speed and skill level of top fighters has to be seen to be believed. It's ballet for men. I like boxers, anyone who is prepared to die in the ring rather than lose is a person I want to entertain me. Test Match Cricket - The ultimate test of concentration, tactical ability, skill and mental endurance, one mistake and you can cost your team the match and over a 5 day period that's a serious test of a player's capability. If you don't have consistency, bravery and patience you won't succeed. And of course the history, the ashes is the greatest sporting contest on the planet. NFL - Something I hated at first and grew to love, the pace and athletism of the players is scary and you very rarely if ever get a bad game, the sight of a late 4th quarter drive to win a game is up there with anything in sport. Horse Racing - In National Hunt the traditional is fantastic, the courses beautiful and we get to follow legends like Best Mate and Kauto Star throughout their careers, nothing like the feeling of pulling into Cheltenham station on a festival day, on the flat the amazing feat and speed of the animals in front of you, hundreds of years of breeding the best with the best than gives us animals like Frankel to marvel at. Many more as well.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Throwing kettles over pubs That's the real quiz
Amin Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Aside from football, Motorsport is the only thing I watch all year round, although I do enjoy certain events from other sports, such as Wimbledon, Tour de France, Olympics, World Athletic Championships and the Superbowl.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Football, Tennis and F1 are probably the only ones I actively follow, actually quite like most of the American sports but don't really actively follow them.
AKCJ Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Throwing kettles over pubs I've done that, what have you done?
AKCJ Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 I'll watch the pinnacle of pretty much any sport. Superbowl, world championships, ashes, world cups, olympics... etc. Don't really enjoy watching anything as much as I do Football though. I could watch a 7th division Unkranian team play on Eurosport and still enjoy it.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 I used to think baseball and A ball were dog, now I love them. Channel 5 with Tommy Boyd and the Moose really sold me baseball, trouble is I managed to pick 2 shit teams in the Rams and the Indians!
Finnegan Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Not just rugby union but specifically Super Rugby. Absolutely phenomenal, almost a different sport and makes it so clear how the southern hemisphere is so far ahead of us. If anyone thinks they like the idea of rugby and have enjoyed watching the likes of Japan, Samoa and Tonga throw it around at the world cup but have been put off watching English premiership games and finding it ****ing boring - watch super rugby! The NZ conference in particular is brilliant, only one slightly shit team out of the five (Blues) and even they're entertaining to watch. Watching Chiefs, Hurricanes and Highlanders play each other last year was some of the most entertaining sport ever.
Crinklyfox Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Cricket - played until I was 50 and my eyes and reactions gave out. County and test cricket is another world though, I watch all formats. Golf - though it's one of the most frustrating sports to play with my limited ability, still a weekly match is the only time I get to spend with my oldest son now. Bowls (don't laugh) - it's harder than it looks but doesn't require physical fitness and it's the one sport where I can beat people half my age. Not a spectator sport though.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Darts Snooker American Football Horse Racing (flat and the big jumps meetings) MotoGP/Superbikes (so, so much better than F1 imo) Athletics (big meets/events) Golf Used to find the majority of my favourite sports now incredly dull during my youth, especially Horse Racing, Snooker and Golf, now I love them, I think you grow to appreciate the levels of skill, concentration and competitiveness involved in certain sports that doesn't really seem apparent when you're a kid.
Mike Oxlong Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Women's beach volleyball. It's so technical.
Izzy Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 Quite a lot of hate for Rugby, Golf and Cricket on the 'Sports I can't stand' thread but I like all three - especially golf. Golf gets a bit of negative stereo typing in my experience, and it's nothing like the old codger, exclusive game many make it out to be. At my club, most of the members are in their forties like me and it's a great way of getting the competitive buzz I used to get playing football as a youth. Golf is the best game for mental challenge and personal improvement because it's easy to measure by your handicap. I'm addicted to it and love playing three times a week. And being at the Ryder Cup twice is the best sporting occasion I've ever witnessed (apart from when we beat Derby in the play off final )
bovril Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 Volleyball. Thought it'd be crap but I went to a couple of international games and it was really enjoyable.
RowlattsFox Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 Cricket is the only other sport I watch regularly, did watch Rugby Union quite often before sky lost the Premiership rights. Difficult to watch any other sports in my house as I generally use my sports TV time on football but do watch Darts, F1 and Tennis occasionally.

I love it even though it is frustrating to play sometimes.
ozleicester Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 AFL - Best visual sport in the world. Basketball, after years of not really liking it, discovered its great to get in the razzmatazz
purpleronnie Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 Anyone who doesn't love every sport is weird.
