fuchsntf Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 If we did bring in some other FB, in Jan, he needs to be well above the norm. I doubt the Jan-transfer market could deliver, anybody special. Plus at this very moment, we could be looking for all positions, at 2 different levels. Lets say we continue to hold a) top spot. B) top 4 or we slip into 8-10 position by middle of Jan. Then surely how potential buys look at us, and how the club and Ranieri looks at the squads needs will have different valuation, according to that position. Simpsons weekly improved performances, Fuchs quickly making that position his own, RDL in the background.Chillie out on loan. Benny hovering around waiting for his chance.Unless we collapse, why should we be looking desperately in Jan for a FB.Fans wanted new faces at the begiining of the season, to cover/play those FBs position well we have them.Including Schlupp to cover when necessary. I'd Like to see what Bennie can do, and what he can give us at the back. My priority still would be Midfield cover, even with James who will be coming back, and Inler in the wings. Simpson and Fuchs have taken out the need of desperation, for these FB positions.
stox259 Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 If there is any indication of how far we have come in the last year it's this, Danny Simpson is the right back for the English Premiership league leaders, Leicester City. I'm not sure what's the most amazing in that sentence. That we are top of the premier league or that Danny Simpson is out first choice right back! Props to him though. Unbelievable turnaround for him.
LCFC FOX Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 After December when we probably won't get many points and will most likely be 6th to 10th people will be asking for new players. Especially if don't win that month. This top of the league spell will be forgotten quickly.

Especially if don't win that month. This top of the league spell will be forgotten quickly. Why the negativity, We're top of the league simply because we've won the most matches, simple as that. Maybe the test is going to get a little stiffer from here on. But the Team is getting stronger week by week. The younger players are learning how to play the game from all perspectives. How important possession of the Ball is and How to defend as a unit and how to attack as a unit. While we may not win every match nobody is going to find it easy playing against us. Simply because pace and goal scorers troubles all teams and we have plenty of both. We're moving on up to the next level, just enjoy the ride.
NewEnglandFox Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Simpson spent a lot of time up the pitch yesterday. If RDL did what Simpson did yesterday this place would be losing their mind. Basically we switched one wingback for another but the biggest reason no one has a problem with it is that he hasn't been burned in open play. (Obviously it's Newcastle and I expect him to stay at home more next weekend.) I think Simpson is better than RDL but there is also the Wellens effect because of the lack of confidence people in here have in RDL.

If you are so blind to the fact that Simpson is the better option at RB then you have problems. When our attack is so potent you only need your defence to defend and he is getting better and better.
Number 6 Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Trippier would be absolutely ideal. Simpson has done a very good job since coming in though. Looked much better than he did last season.
Harry - LCFC Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 We've improved significantly since Fuchs and Simpson stepped into the starting eleven. Huth seems to have gotten over his dodgy spell too. The back four could be better but it doesn't scare me anymore.

Clever Fox Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Simpson is getting better with every game, But I still feel he's only keeping the spot warm for Benny as he acclimatises to the premiership.
VLC86 Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Simpson is getting better with every game, But I still feel he's only keeping the spot warm for Benny as he acclimatises to the premiership. Benny isn't a right back.
st albans fox Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Benny isn't a right back. That much was obvious when he came on against sland Simpson was able to get forward and looked comfortable yesterday as Newcastle came forward more down our left However, he made one exceptional covering tackle late in the first half.
Thracian Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 4 of those 6 goals from set pieces and the other two were penalties. Our defence from open play has certainly improved. 4 of those 6 goals from set pieces and the other two were penalties. Our defence from open play has certainly improved. It's not entirely down to Simpson - the whole back four seems more assured and organised these days although that might be more rigorously tested in the next month or so. But the way we're functioning now, Simpson can afford to concentrate primarily on defence whereas DeLaet got exposed in trying to be a wing back (though others played a part in that) and didn't seem so reliable positionally. Not that it was quite that simple. Fuchs has established himself at the same time and the two changes have coincided, whether by luck or judgement, with much steadier defending from Huth and Morgan for all that Huth remains a sending off waiting to happen for all his welcome and sometimes imperious presence.
Clever Fox Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Benny isn't a right back. Agreed but neither was big WAS and he didn't do too bad playing there. Benny is a lot better than he looked in his few cameo appearances. He was trying to hard to impress in those. Once he settles into the club and the league he'll be an asset. I believe we'll be all the better for his presence. For now though like others he'll just have to bide his time.
AyewJoking Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Simpson is doing well at the moment, he needs to make a major cóck up so we can all hate him again

Whole of last season, you were waiting for a red for Wasi, now youve been waiting 6 playing months for a red card for Huth. One day, you just might get it right.. if you keep saying it.
Guest Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 He had his best game in an LCFC shirt on Sat for me. Very solid.
LCFCSOULBOY Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 Least he ain't fat!. But he may hit his wife with a bat and is a rat
Vindaloo FOX Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 always rated this lad, RDL is great going forward but I like my defenders to defend. I remember asking my QPR mate what he thought of Simpson when we bought him he was gutted to see him go now we are seeing why.
Ric Flair Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 Simpson was on the verge of an England call up when he was at Newcastle had a period of a season or so where he was very good. It was a surprise he left to go to QPR and then since that he's not reached the same level of quality. This season though he's been fairly faultless and it's good we know we've a dependable right back on our books. I'd still be looking to strengthen that position but that doesn't mean he'll be dropped as he's stepping up week after week.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 Simpson is doing fine, unless someone is available at an absolute steal in January I think we should stick with him until the summer. And for the people saying we should play Benny there, if we're serious about our European aspirations we can't be playing a centre half out of position at right back.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 Amazing turnaround under Ranieri. Last season he couldn't pass five yards. This season, looks a different player altogether.
LCCFox96 Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 I don't like Simpson as an individual and thought he was very poor last season but he has to be given credit for getting his head down, earning his place back and keeping De Laet out of the picture. We've looked far more solid since his return and he has always clearly had something about him as a player, this is just the first we've seen of it at Leicester. He's proved a dependable right back so far this season, and on that basis there isn't really any need to replace him in the January window. I'd sooner see that money invested in a quality '#10' or another attacking option to give us even more firepower up top.
