Tuna Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 He's bloody lucky to be a premier league footballer. He'll know that and he'll need to keep it up.
Dr The Singh Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 He has some strengths and alot of weaknesses. He is as some have said, not able to mark taller players at set pieces, in fact he fails to put his body in the way enough. Also he backed off wba wingers full back too far, giving them a clear path to cross the ball. Going forward he offers nothing. However he does shepherd and doesn't get out of position, which is why he is preferred to then richie de shite
Bert Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 We saw it last season in the few appearances he made. Simpson is not very good on the ball. He gives it away too cheaply because his passing is poor. DeLaet is better than Simpson in this respect. BUT..Simpson is simply a better RB. He's a better defender. If we were playing wing backs, I'd play DeLaet. If we are playing a flat back four, I'd play Simpson. For me it's that simple and clear. Same on the left too. Flat back four...Christian Fuchs. Wing backs..Schlupp. Quite agree. Will always stand by the philosophy that a right back's primary job is to defend. And as I've always said. He's a better defender than De Laet!
Richard Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 We'll be looking in Jan for a new right back for sure. 6-18 months left on the contract, likely from Ligue 1 or Bundesliga
BenTheFox Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 It may not be popular, more so due to non-footballing reasons but what a revelation he's been since coming into the side. He was my man of the match today/yesterday.
TJB-fox Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Far better footballer than some (many) like to admit. We've looked so much more capable defensively having Fuchs/Simpson as the fullbacks, without losing our attacking threat
shen Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 It may not be popular, more so due to non-footballing reasons but what a revelation he's been since coming into the side. He was my man of the match today/yesterday. He was the man behind the "through ball" (read: long ball) for Vardy's peno, no? He was actually making runs into their penalty area a couple of times. Surprised his face wasn't covered in blood from all the nose-bleeding that must've caused. I remember a shit cross or two, but overall did fine. Wouldn't name him MOTM as he was partly at fault for their best chance (lost Ighalo for the shot that hit the post and didn't react quickly enough on the rebound). Long may his 'revival' continue though!
Freesolo Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 He is a natural RB can defend unlike RDL I have always said he should be given a shot, obviously he has sorted himself out and worked his way into the team, hope he keeps playing well though i think someone will be coming in January for that position
Foxymcoxy Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Yep. Doing a really really good job at the moment. I still want him out deep down, but while he's here and the best we've got I'm happy with him playing.
AKCJ Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 While I think he's a good player, he was at fault for a lot of miss placed passes today.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 He'll do until January - we have looked a lot more solid since he came into the side but right back is still by far our weakest position.
Benji Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 He was very highly thought of as a youngster at United. Hopefully he can keep his head together on and off the pitch.
VLC86 Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Very decent defender. If we want a progressive attacking Fb he clearly isn't it but when you compare him to RDL we look very solid with Simpson in.
Fox 4 Life Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 He is a really good defender, stays in position and rarely misses a tackle, good in the air. His huge weakness is going forward, yesterday not once did he create anything from his forward play and clearly lacks confidence in that area. I think he is a much better option than De Laet though as he does his job of defending very well.
Charl91 Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 He has done much better than De Laet, to be honest.
Juvenile Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 did well again yesterday, much more assured than De Laet. Again it helps when he has Albrighton in front, where as De Laet always had Mahrez didn't he?
Bert Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 did well again yesterday, much more assured than De Laet. Again it helps when he has Albrighton in front, where as De Laet always had Mahrez didn't he?So what's the difference when Fuchs had/has Mahrez?
maddog Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Yes. With the run of games he's finally had he seems to be gaining more confidence. I barely noticed him on the pitch yesterday, which is a symptom of his very solid and competent defending. He's clearly a much better defender than Da Laet. Ritchie being stronger going forward but that's not his job, his job is to defend and he forgets that sometimes.
Fox92 Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Feel more comfortable with him at full back. Easily prefer him to De Laet.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Doing really well. With the attacking options we have we don't need our RB bombing forward and I find it really weird that people criticise this aspect of his game.
MC Prussian Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 In general, it does feel better having him in the matchday squad. I get the sense of stability and reliability with him on the pitch. No disrespect to De Laet, but he got found out too often going forward in the games that he's featured in and had troubles catching up tracking back.
Juvenile Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 So what's the difference when Fuchs had/has Mahrez?I think we can all agree Fuchs is a better player... The difference between Simpson and De Laet is one likes to get forward and the other is content to sit. How often has Mahrez played left? There's also a reason Mahrez gets subbed, and it seems to be because out of all our wingers he's the least defensive minded player we have...
Bamba's Babes Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 I'm not concerned when I see his name on the team sheet. He has done very well since coming into the side. RDL is awful.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 He is proving to be very solid player, don't really see him getting beat with ease like De Laet. Holds his ground and wins the battles
