I look at it this way:

Gray £3.75m

Amartey £3.5m

Iversen £50,000

Remy £11m (if it happens)

Musa £20m (if it happens)

That's five players for just under £40m or £8m each on average.

Not all the money's likely to be at risk in any case and if you said maybe half could be lost through bad decision making, bad luck with injuries or someone like Remy simply losing his edge, is it really impossible that the first three mentioned couldn't evolve to make that £20m up?

I just think that, considered as a group, they represent a good mixture of youth, risk and known expertise. Much like the group we've signed starting with Vardy and Mahrez and continued in the summer.

Add to that the known interest in Chilwell and the offer from Arsenal which would have covered Amartey's fee and we've effectively got one of our five for nothing in terms of squad value, with Chilwell's stock still likely to rise a little even if he doesn't want to stay.

With so much coming in and with our league position so much higher than anticipated (and therefore budgeted for), the real risk is negligible and the potential benefits enormous in terms of being able to sustain our Premiership and European challenge.

Whoever you are my good man I will buy you a pint for that post!

This chuffster will need a work permit too, won't he? Even it the offer gets accepted, still plenty of stress left to come. We're all going to be exhausted by the time we get to Tuesday! lol

He is the captain of his national team. I doubt he has an issue over a work permit. He will have played the requisite number of games.

Absolutely shouldn't be a problem - still a good opportunity for a meltdown on here though!

Pretty sure most of us could do better than LVG and what he has spent

Most us of us wouldn't have bought the dogshit LVG has because we have been trained in the way of the LCFC SCOUT.

I'm not saying this player is no good, my point is that those of us who know **** all about a player tend to get a bit nervous about spending money on what, to us, is an unkown.

Totally agree and half the forum would pay whatever the Russians asked in a heartbeat because they're panicking.

We offered £15.1m and his release clause is £22.8 and the Russians are playing hardball because they think we'll pay it, that's £7.6m more than we offered a few days a go. Now fair enough if we think he'll be as good as a Mahrez or Vardy but I'd rather we walked away than pay way over the odds when this time next year it's a bit of a toss up whether this guy should be in the team or Marc Albrighton.

whilst I would love us to part with £20m to buy this chap, It makes me wonder reading some posts which state we should just pay the extra few million to bag him as if a few million is akin to spending an extra £20 or £30 on a more decent bloody toaster. A few Million quid in any organisation is er hmm. a fooking lot of money and we are buying a living creature ( I hope) without a guarantee / warranty or any promise of performance . I.e a bloody expensive toaster which isn't even guaranteed to toast your flippin bread!! So we kinda need to trust the judgement of the expert scouts / and commercial guys at LCFC rather than saying - just pay an extra few million quid because we think we should because he looks bloody good on you tube, has a 95 speed rating on FIFA and because stringer keeps ringing ups randoms that say he is the dogs friggin gonads :-)

it's good to be back :-)

Where you been me ole mucker?  :)

I get both sides of the argument regarding a potential 20m fee .

20m is a hell of a lot of money to LCFC , but we are a in one hell of a position to qualify for the champions league. The big bed baby!

Well worth the gamble. I trust our scouting system...

20m ain't big in football!

Our transfer policy is (has been recently) the envy of many clubs. Why rock the boat with risky expensive gambles like this? If it ain't broke, it don't need fixing.

Hopefully he's a world beater and I eat my words. I just don't "feel" this one, for whatever reason. Maybe it's because I don't know much about him, yet we're gonna spunk £20m on getting him!

They have earned the right to be trusted

Who are we to even question these guys

They walk on transfer water !

But to lose a player you want, who, with others, could make the difference between qualifying for Europe or not is far more costly than paying another 15% or so.

As I've mentioned elsewhere it's unlikely you'll be risking all the money in any case and our known/guaranteed income will more than cover it.

Who knows if the theory will materialise as fact in terms of success.

Remy wouldn't have been my preferred choice because of the points made by Suffolk Fox and his being injury prone and looking out of condition. But others have pointed out that of all our supposed targets, Remy has considerable experience of the Premier League and proved he can score in that kind of football.

Mo signing is guaranteed. But this may be the best chance we ever get to qualify for Europe and our owners would be crazy not to do all they can to try and take it.

Far better surely than ending the season and saying "if only we'd done this or that".

i don't disagree - my youtube watching excitable heart says BUY BUY BUY at whatever cost - My commercial head says... if the scouts think he is the man, have assessed the risk and decided he is value for money at X price in a january transfer window and will improve our chances of success by Y% then pay £X. It's just the way people are throwing the odd million here and there as if it is small change.

Could you imagine Musa and Remy signing, 30M + jesus we're moving up, i cant see us getting both though surely?

Didn't know we were in for the son of God as well? I guess when you have money to burn!

(I've decided to avoid the easy no good at crosses pun)

It's been alluded to in these threads before, but I can't imagine we would be throwing offers out like we are if we weren't at least open to the possibility of signing 2 strikers.

This should give all of us some hope that we're going to double down on the fast, counter-attacking, blitzkrieg football that brought us to the top of the table.

Didn't Vichai spend an extra £20 million or so to get the plane early, they have serious wealth, a few million to them to get the right player is like me having or not having a dessert next time I go out for a meal. As said our scouting and recruiting team have earned the right, some laughed when £180 million was being mentioned being spent on the squad, reckon our squad is worth more than that now.

Its either one or an other surely. No other striker/winger leaving, we are only one short and spending 30mil+ now would be silly; it isn't broke .  .  .

It's all levels. Once you start dealing in millions it's just the same as dealing in hundreds or thousands but with more noughts. All the principles stay the same but the upside is that 10% profit on £100 is a tenner and 10% of a million is £100,000 and you can buy a lot more with £100,000 than a tenner.

So its not just the same at all then?
