Monsell1976 Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Over odds? Ulloas goals last season are one of the main reasons we are going to trouser 10s of millions over the next few yearsAt the time we paid over the odds, it's not like we brought saying, I've used my crystal ball, and I know he's going to score a few goals to help us secure our survival, at the time it was an expensive gamble, as he was unproven. The reason we are where we are now is the squad got it together last season, the owners have backed the club, and invested to get the club, where they promised in their long term plan, including creating a solid infrastructure for the club. To say a player like Leo, who blew hot and cold last season, and has blown cold all this season, is one of the main reason we can spend 10's of millions, is laughable. The main reason, if not the only reason we are even considering spending the amount of money we are, is the solid financial base the owners have backed with millions of their own money, Claudio and the squad this season, obtaining safety by Christmas, and still top of the league going into Feb, they are the main reason, not one player is the main reason.

The more important implication, and the one being supported, is that Ulloa helped secure our survival. That is not a point of argument - it happened - but we had a different manager and a different style. His utility is limited in our current system. This is all okay! We need to free ourselves of this notion that Player X is worthless, etc.
Buce Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 I think its: Man: If I offered you a £1,000,000 would you have sex with me? Woman: Yes Man: What if I offered you £1, would you have sex with me? Woman: Certainly not, what kind of woman do you take me for? Man: We've already established that, now we're just haggling on the price. Oscar Wilde was it? It is of unknown origin. It has been variously attributed to, among others, Winston Churchill, Mark Twain, George Bernard Shaw, and Bertrand Russell. But not Oscar Wilde.

We need to free ourselves of this notion that Player X is worthless, etc. I haven't said he was worthless, he scored some important goals, but blew hot and cold last season, great one minute, and went long periods without scoring, but by no means was he or is one main reason, we are in a position to spend 20 odd million in one player, as the poster was suggesting. He has been awful this season, and his lack of any sort of form is one of many reasons, not the main reason, we are looking at strenghing the forwards. I have concerns about spending the amount we are looking at on musa, but I trust our recruitment, and will hopefully suit our style better than Leo, and from what Claudio says kramaric.
volpeazzurro Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 You have to say that this is looking more and more unlikely!
Raw Dykes Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Think that puts this deal to bed Maybe. Or they might be playing mind games with the Don.

He's been that awful contributing in a team that's top of the league? Most of the players blew hot and cold last year as well. I suppose you were one of the sell Vardy people to West Brom when he was contributing a lot less than Ulloa last season. Ulloa's been a vital part of the squad in the last 18 months as anyone with any sense would acknowledge. We need another striker yes , but sometimes a certain style may not work and you may need an alternative Ranieri seems to like him, but i suppose you know best.
Bagworthblue Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 thats either because you're not very good at it or they dont trust you. probably both but all I am saying is that we should spend if it is right to do so and we should spend however much is needed if it is right to do so and that decision should be based on a set criteria and an element of known risk and made by the right people - That excludes me, and everyone on here as however much we think we know best, we are short of much of the information at the club's disposal. Yes we have wealthy owners and wonderful owners but LCFC is still a business and should be managed accordingly. My point was that people saying just spend the extra £3 or 4 million as if it is small change should consider £3-4 million as a heck of a lot of money and we also have FFP to consider. That doesn't mean we don't spend it, and it certainly doesn't mean I don't want us to spend it as I really want this chap!!! It means that a lot of careful consideration by the owners and club management should take place (in a time restricted period unfortunately) before we decide we do spend it. In addition, it is easy to say 'just pay what' they want to make sure of the deal but if you can save yourself £1-2m in the process you save £1-2m this time and don't set a precedent to the rest of the market the next time you want to negotiate a deal. It's a case of weighing up the risk of losing out vs the benefit of not offering the full asking price and those closest to knowing the lay of the land of that risk and the negotiation strategy are those involved in the negotiations... not us :-)

Listen to what I'm replying to, you are stating he's one of the main reasons we are able to spend big, and what I'm saying is that is a load of bollocks. The TEAM and the manager this season, is the main reason we are able to spend big, and the backing of very good owners. Not what you was suggesting, Leo last season was one of the main reasons, he was part of a squad that kept us up, as I said he scored some important goals, but others had a bigger influence on our survival, like Esteban, but even he wasn't a main reason, it was a collective effort. If you had seen comments I have posted about Leo on other threads, I have posted we have seen he can be a better player, and I don't understand why he has been so shite. You say Claudio seems to like him, but what options does he have, and he seems to favour Okazaki over him, but Claudio is doing great, and when we have musa, remy or whatever options we have up front, and Claudio has him first choice, I will back them both, as like you say Claudio knows better
foxes21 Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 CSKA playing today. If he's not in the starting line up that's a good sign!!!
Nick Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 CSKA playing today. If he's not in the starting line up that's a good sign!!! See top of the page.... Signs not that good! I do appreciate why you missed the post though as there's so much rubbish to sift through!

Vlad the Fox Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Maybe the usual 'age comparison' would help; 1 dog year = 7 human years (number is > 1 i.e. a 20 year old dog is same as a 140 year old human) If Shade's correct (cough); 1 Nigerian year = 0.75 UK years (number is < 1 i.e. a 20 year old Nigerian is the same as 15 year old UK resident) But of course, Shade is being silly and they don't age any faster. They're just not born til they're 6. Does this age thing work for old people as well? The reason I ask is that I was round an old lady's house the other day and it happened to be her birthday, my mate said she didn't look a day over 21, 'you ****ing what', I snorted and apologised to the said lady on his behalf and told her she looked about 80. It turns out as we hastily left she was 69. I'm confused.

KP Fox Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Think that puts this deal to bed Just them displaying their poker face.
richardsfoxes Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 This one is done for this window, your not going to risk 21M or whatever it is on a friendly.
Gerard Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 If we can't get a deal that suits us I'm happy for us to walk away and keep our money in our pocket until the summer. We have 15 games left this season and play once a week so we should be able to cope with the squad we have. Rather that than held over a barrel and panicking by paying far too much or bringing in the wrong player on a desperate last day.
formidable1 Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 This one is done for this window, your not going to risk 21M or whatever it is on a friendly.I agree, this could be a slow burner. I'm not hugely convinced we need to spend this money at this point anyway, we may need to split the budget and spend elsewhere once we know our finishing position.
dbtcity Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 This one is done for this window, your not going to risk 21M or whatever it is on a friendly. They don't really seem like they're that bothered about selling him, don't think they're in need of the money so why wouldn't they play him? For all they know we might not stump up the cash to meet his buyout clause then they've got a player who's missed a game to gain fitness for nothing
bald reynard Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Starting today for CSKA Think that puts this deal to bed You have to say that this is looking more and more unlikely! This one is done for this window, your not going to risk 21M or whatever it is on a friendly. Slimani it is then !

Lets all hope Ozaki gets 13 this season because that would be a fantastic effort as well,be even better if Ulloa did as well
