TiffToff88 Posted 19 February 2016 Posted 19 February 2016 I just noticed that he was included in the February update of our official registered Premier League first team squad (http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/2015-16/feb/020216-2015-2016-premier-league-squads-announced.html) But has anyone actually seen him play? Does he look good enough for the first team? He's 23 now, and without meaning to sound disrespectful, if he hasn't broken into the first team squad by now, He never will. So is there really any point in holding on to him any longer?

My point exactly, so why is he still here? From my limited experiences of seeing him play for the u-21's and out on loan, i would probably say he's League One standard at best. It just doesn't make any sense for him to still be here

I guess it took vardy until he was 25 to get his chance, but even still I can't see him pushing his way through with the options we have now. If he has any ambition he will leave to get regular football and build his way up the leagues

I was really hoping he would break into the first team but based on his Loan spells I think league 2 maybe league 1 is his limit

Xen Posted 19 February 2016 Posted 19 February 2016 Probably on relatively low wages, and good to keep a few familiar faces in the reserves to help the youngsters develop. Never going to make it here though, and I'd imagine he'll leave on a free to somewhere like Northampton once his contract expires. I'd expect the same from a few others who are never likely to make the step up (Panayiotu springs to mind). By which time we'll have a fresh batch of youngsters - some in the first team, some who have moved on and a few more to stick around and keep the consistency in the youth ranks.
