hopefully we win it with a penalty won by vardy

:o imagine thats the case... a last minute penalty to win the league.

Vardy, Mahrez, Fuchs, Drinky all standing over the ball... who do you want to take it?

they could have Donald Trump in charge, doesn't matter, we are still going to win.

I dunno, we might have a few problems getting past that fvck off wall he wants to build..

Could be a tricky one. Mcclaren leaving will give the players a bit of incentive, but they really are a car crash organisation wise throughout the team. They do have some players that can hurt us on their day e.g. Sissoko (when he turns up), Wijnaldum, Shelvey etc.

But I can't see them coming and sitting back completely as they don't have the organisation to do that. They'll probably see this as a free pass which should hopefully suit us. An early goal would be nice, get their heads down and win this 2-0. Seeing as they've only scored 7 goals away from home all season, we should be able to get past these guys. Fancy Vardy to get back on the scoresheet as well.

Im gunna say this will be a tougher game then we think. 2-1 us or a draw.

Of course Newcastle have 9 other teams to worry about after us, but I strongly suspect this public humiliation of McClaren - Dragging him through the mud for 6 days when they could either have quietly sacked him on Monday or let him go next week - was done in part to motivate the players for Monday night. If a team beats us fair and square, I'd have no complaints (just a little pain!) but to motivate them by sacrificing somebody publicly is absolutely shameful and wreaks of low moral fibre, especially from a club as huge as them.

I know some think I'm daft but I just hope we don't underestimate them or get affected by all their baggage. We need to expect the best possible Newcastle team and have several plans to go to if needed. 3 points here would take the pressure off the away match at Palace, which is never easy.

I think they'll try to come for a point - if you look at where they are in the league, they don't actually *need* to win away from home to the league leaders at this stage.

It would make for an interesting game; I'm still not entirely convinced about our capacity to put bus-parkers to the sword at home.

Having said that, this will probably be the last game when we'll have to break down a side set up to defend.

Our remaining home fixtures after this consist of two sides who aren't threatened with relegation (Southampton, Everton) who have no reason to try to settle for a point, and West Ham, who still have something to play for.

The only other fixture is against Swansea, who are in a relegation fight. But by the time we play them (April 24) they'll almost definitely need to play to win.

That was a concern of mine as we were beating teams with less possession and counter attacking but could we win another way against lesser teams who were willing to settle for a point and trying to nullify us?

The answer over the last three games is yes, the evidence is there that we can win more than one way. In our last three games against "lesser" opposition we have averaged:

Leicester

Possession 58%

Shots 17

Tottenham

Possession 58%

Shots 25

Arsenal

Possession 60%

Shots 16

Man City

Possession 58%

Shots 15

All the above were two home games and one away and not against the "big six" or Leicester. Our stats are comparable and evidence that we can win games by dominating teams who look to park the bus and are happy with a point before the match starts.

stat time

The Foxes have won the last two Premier League games against Newcastle United after winning none of the previous seven (D3 L4).

Leicester have lost just one of their last 17 Premier League games at the King Power Stadium (W11 D5 L1).

Claudio Ranieri's team have kept a clean sheet in five of their last six Premier League home matches, but conceded two goals in their last league game there (2-2 v WBA).

Newcastle United have lost 17 of their last 21 Premier League away matches.

The Magpies have scored just eight goals in their last 20 Premier League away games, failing to score at all in 13 of these matches.

Newcastle have failed to score in 12 of their Premier League games this season; a joint league-high alongside Watford and Aston Villa.

Leicester City have scored in 26 Premier League games this season; more often than any other team.

Newcastle United have lost their last eight Premier League matches played on a Monday and have failed to score in the last five of these. All eight of these have been away from home.

Riyad Mahrez has been involved in a league-high 26 Premier League goals this season (15 goals, 11 assists) and is the only player to be in double figures for both goals and assists.

Leonardo Ulloa has scored three goals in three Barclays Premier League appearances against Newcastle United; more than against any other opponent.

I agree with everything bar the last paragraph.

Swansea wont need to play to win even if Newcastle and Sunderland somehow went on a decent run over the next month. Even then, they'd happy take a valuable point away to a side at the top of the league (hopefully !) and would focus efforts on the last 3 games to get the wins they may need.

I see what you're saying, but I was more talking about when we're at home and asked to break down a side that's defending.

Particularly, the home games against Norwich and Bournemouth were a little worrying from this point of view. Against West Brom we were better but still only drew.

I just get the feeling that our best recent performances at home have either been against 'big' sides that have to try to beat us because of fan expectations (e.g. Liverpool), or decent sides that have wanted to come forward a bit more (e.g. Stoke).

Still...I don't want to be over-critical - and I obviously hope I'm wrong!

the thing is even if they park the bus, we are bound to get a couple of clear chances. We need to make sure we score and then watch out for their counter attacks.

parking the bus is a skill in itself. Newcastle don't strike me as a team that could successfully keep the bus parked for the 90 mins

Even against Norwich & Bournemouth we averaged 56% possession and 15 shots which isn't too dissimilar from what the top sides do.

We were off the pace against Norwich but we could have had five or six against Bournemouth if we were more clinical. We might not win but I think we are beginning to prove that we can beat teams by having the majority of possession and still create enough chances to win games.

Also if you discount our first seven games when we had Schlupp & De Laet as full backs our defence is the meanest in the league conceding only 0.77 goals per game. The stats are saying we are capable of seeing this out.

All this statistic crap I read on here counts for nothing.

It's about the players frame of mind on the day, and who turns up to play football, and really wants to win.

"COMETH THE HOUR, COMETH THE MAN". So come on Leicester.

Don't think it matters that much for this one the fact that Rafa is in charge.

The Newcastle defence is the worst in the league, other than Villa. He'll do a bloody good job to get them stopping conceding.

Shame that the Wally isn't still there though. He was clueless.

RAFA cancelled day off and had the Newcastle squad in an hour after being appointed..with them set to train Saturday and Sunday too

Shame we aren't playing tomorrow. Hopefully will make little difference and we still smash em!!

With injuries there may be only one player out of there GK and back four available.

Krul & Dummett definitely out and Coloccini & Mbemba are doubtful. That back line is poverty at the best of times so we should really be putting these to the sword. I'm still cautious about it though but hopefully by half time I'll be wondering why I was.  :)

I hope we put our chances away. Hope it's not like the WBA game where we absolutely dominated but didn't take our chances. Can't see Newcastle causing an upset here, gotta go for a win for us but I think it will be a trickier fixture than we think.
