Just need Claudio to go on a ostrich-fuelled rant to take the pressure off the players with an early goal to lift the crowd.

It's ironic really that Mike Ashley, so often criticised for being stingy and sucking the profit out of the club, spends tonnes of money, especially in the January window, only to finally see his club go down the drain. Maybe he should have stuck to his guns and 'not invested' beyond the necessary.

Ashley sticks with failing managers too long.

I'm surprised none of the players have celebrated a goal by 'sticking their head in the sand'. Would be epic!

I just wish that they had kept Mclaren for this match. Its not definite that Benitez is coming in but if he does you never know what energy he could give the team. Make it a harder game for sure

True, but Even with Alex Ferguson and pep his assistant, we would still beat them Monday night

On Talksport earlier they were saying something along the lines of, for all the 20 very first games played by current Premiership managers, only 4 have been lost. That said, I still think we'll do it though !

They should give "Sky Sources" the Newcastle job... very similar win percentage

Rafa to be in charge according apparently.

This is going to be a fascinating challenge for Benitez who is way too good a manager to be messing around with them.

He's built a reputation on solid defence but how solid a defence can you make when you have to pick one of Coloccini and Taylor to play centre back?

It certainly makes the game more of a potential banana skin, whether it's because there's acceptance that there's a crisis at Newcastle and they have McClaren in charge, or the same acceptance with an interim manager or Benitez in charge, it's likely to make players who have not given 100% suddenly give their all. It wouldn't be the first time they'd been jolted to life.

The script seems to be written that this is where Newcastle make a statement of intent and Leicester slip up. It'll take us being at our best, and up for a hell of a fight, for us to rewrite it. If we do - and especially if we repeat the act against Palace (where Pardew has said more than once that he'll be especially up for Leicester, after Ranieri's perceived slight) - then we'll truly look like Champions. And, of course, regardless of how up for the game the Newcastle players might be, or the Palace players, we have the capacity to beat them both.

I wonder what the stats are for mid-season appointments.

This is good news

Newcastle will be up for it and Come and play us

Instead of 11 behind ball

Will be a cracking game now

Vardy to win it with space and time

I wondered whether it might work in our favour as well. A cracking game which we win would be fine, and we're probably more likely to win if they're throwing the kitchen sink at us, trying to prove their worth to the incoming saviour. It'd be lovely if they could delay the 'bounce' until the following game, which may well be his first match in charge. Don't they play Spurs at some crucial point in the season too?

Final day at home.

What a tough start for Rafa if he does take charge before our game, League leaders followed by Sunderland at home.....Win both and he will about have freedom of the city, lose both and they will be ready for his blood! I think if I was Rafa I would wait till the end of the season!

Big shame that this has happened but they really dragged it out and probably still have some negotiating to do with Rafa so I would be surprised if he gets much time, if any with the players before Monday. It could be one of those where he is in the stands for the game but it's still McClaren's starting 11 and tactics in place, as seems like he has been preparing for it until today. That can only be a good thing.

Would have much preferred this to happen after our game, but they are still a woeful side, lacking confidence and spirit with loads of injuries. As someone else said, this might make them go for it a bit more, meaning that opens them up for our counter attacks. Still predicting a comfortable win, especially if we score early, then could be 3 or 4
